Honda is the greatest ATV builder in history - fight me
JacobSlabach replied to MarkinAR's topic in General ATV Discussion
but, i dont think hondas are complete crap- obviously depends on how its been treated.. if i found a good deal, id buy one. thats one thing that ill give them- the recons and fourtraxs are fairly cheap. i just wish honda would make like a cvt rubicon or rincon so they could actually compete with polaris, canam, yamaha, suzuki, arctic cat, and the rest. but yes ive never touched an arctic cat so i cant root for them personally. would buy one in a heartbeat if i found a good deal tho!! hey@MarkinAR, maybe you could get my 86 350trx to fire..? its on 50psi compression rn.. it blew up as i was riding it up the drive. -

another friend with an 04 Rubicon 500 that i had to work on a fair bit just to get it to start (replaced starter, relay and battery) and even when i was riding it around, felt like a was sitting on about 300cc worth of power have another friend that owns a early 2000s foreman 400 and takes it through a pond while duck hunting and now the whole frame squeaks bad (shocks, bearings, steering linkage...) i done the same with my 500 and it hasn't given me any trouble -

dont have much experience with arctic cat... i think they are wayyy underrated atvs. personal fav of polaris and arctic cat. next prolly yamaha and canam. my only issue with polaris is i wish they would put some spunkier clutches in their bikes, and please forget the engine braking!! engine braking is the only thing that bothers me.. but also nice- had a friend that let his calipers wear out (didnt ever replace brake shoes) and still drove his 500 around with no brakes. im into the bigger quads (500cc+) and in my opinion honda just cant keep up with a cvt tranny. on the other hand, i have two hondas which dont run, and two (one as of yesterday) that ALWAYS ran after the initial fix up when i bought them. have a friend that hates his 2012 recon 250 as hes had problems out of everything front to rear. and he was a honda hugger too. same story with me. i loved honda till i tried polaris and never looked back -

Polaris 500 sportsman give it gas stalls
JacobSlabach replied to Flipper Tiffany Roper Jones's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
can you post a pic of the rear end of your bike? What year/model did the seller say it was? so yea that makes sense- i have seen that color in the magnums, not sportsmans. i believe the main difference between the two is the sportsmans are shaft driven and have rear independent suspension (for smoother, better performance) -
What kind of quad do you have?
JacobSlabach replied to Shane Pillar's topic in General Talk - Anything Goes!
I gotta Polaris sportsman 800, sportsman 500, Yamaha warrior 350, Honda trx350 4x4, honda trx 90, Suzuki 90, Suzuki 50, Yamaha 50, and Chinese 110. Only proud of the Polaris and warrior I'll be ur kid😂, my fam hates all my ATV talk and diesel truck talk🙄.. lol 2 more years till I can move out......👌 How old are you son? -

2001 Yamaha Warrior YFM350x Clanking Noise
JacobSlabach replied to Chase Cook's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
I would double check timing and valve adjustment first. I hada bike that was clanking and found out I had checked the valve clearence at the wrong tdc. -
If it starts when you jump the starter relay but not when you push the starter button, it's prolly the relay. They are usually pretty cheap.. like 5 dollars

Nice dude -
So the exhaust is not rusted like most, and a dual exhaust so I dont see any benefit to an aftermarket or a new OEM because I've heard that there's really not much power to be gained over the dual exhausts. So prolly gonna weld a section in.

Yamaha Warrior clutch/carb/exhaust issues
JacobSlabach replied to JacobSlabach's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
Hey so back to this bike.. turns out its sputtering high end and found out the air filter is too restrictive. Also blew the axle bearing so I gotta replace that cause the chain is wayyyy too loose as is. Any help on what air filter would work good on this? It's almost like it needs a turbo haha. And what's a good plastic cleaner for atvs? It has mildew on it and some pine sap. -
Update on the 800- so I'm thinking a crack in the exhaust pipe is causing the screaming noise.. havnt taken the time to find the tps specs yet. I think the belt is almost shot, gonna order a new one. I'm trying to find the best way to fix the exhaust? I was thinking put one slip on coupling and cut out the welded part.. also put on a 4in lift, starting to look for 29-30in wheels for it without having to pay 1k lol also tryna find a clutch kit for it.. any input from those murders out there would be greatly appreciated!!! Gotta rebuild the snorkel, had some holes in it. What sealant should I use? What hose should I use? Here's some pics of the exhaust and lift
-
So turns out the k&n filter had some dirt in it, flushed it with gas, blew it out with compressed air. One of the intake snorkel hoses was kinked, cut that out, will replace ltr. Now bike is running better and idles around 1200-1400 rpm which feels too high. It idled at 800-1200 rpm before. Gained noticable power tho! I cant seem to find the spec for the tps idle voltage, but I'll check as far as increasing voltage smoothly. I'm gonna have to do a fair amount of snorkel work. The air box is missing the gasket, and several hoses for the clutches and that intake need to be replaced. Also, I think the screaming that I'm hearing is the belt topping out on the secondary clutch. No problem, just louder cause the intake and output are snorkeled right up to the handlebars rather than under the gas tank. I topped out the engine going up the driveway and its sounding like normal. Had a backfire fart after letting off, but didnt lean out or anything..

Yes I know! I love Polaris sportsmans

Awesome thanks! Looks like I'll be spending some time tomorrow running thru electrical on the bike... I want to take an automotive electrical class at my community college this yr.. see if I can gain some know how..
-
So the main issue now is the battery is really going dead. I'm thinking it's the party that charges the battery? Forgot what it's called atm lol. How should I check that?
-
So to me it sounds good low end but seems to race high end and sounds like it's about to fly apart... looked online and turns out this is an ohv engine, not a ohc, so no timing or valve adjustments... also can anyone point me to a yt video on how to test the speed magneto on polaris bikes? This one and the one on the 500 are dead I believe, but this has also been partly rewired for the rad relocate... also it seems to be continually losing starting power to the starter as time goes on.. the battery reads 12v and 14.3v when running. But the starter struggles on the first stroke to turn the engine over.. Gonna be a learning curve to figure out the tps.. but I think your right ab it not being right as every once in a while it seems to not have power. Also noticed it seems to lose power at high rpm.
-
https://youtu.be/Jen6IyHvTC4 Here's a vid of it running at a higher rpm. Just sounds like it's not running right... has a lotta power tho.
-
So everything works except the mph needle. I'll post another vid of me running it around... sounds like it runs rough at high rpms to me...
-
There it is... lol

So this is what I'm talking ab. Also has a good light bar and bumper on it. Last pic is of the 500 Also here's a video of it running. It's super responsive... but I think I'm herding a valve talking or something...
