  1. sweet find! where d you find this bike?? lol i had a 300 myself and it gave me nothing but issues.. also running under 80psi compression even after a $500 rebuild.. I put a chinese carb on mine too and it didnt run any better or worse than the stock carb that i had rebuilt 3 times.. guess its different in your case. glad you got it running- hope it gives you less crap than mine did for me..
  2. drained the oil and took the side cover off today. this is what the inside looked like. i think i have the black bolts on the clutch adjusted wrong...? The linkage from the outside to the inside looks good. i had those black bolts all the way in.. dont know where they are supposed to ba and didnt want them to rattle loose
  3. i looked it up and i believe its a 1986 350. would it not be easier to cut the gas tank in half, clean and sand all the rust down and weld it back together?
  4. no issues except that the speed selector broke because it had a hole in it and got water inside when i went through the pond so i didnt have 4x4 buuut i didnt really ever need it. i had just changed the oil that morning and it made an unbelievable difference! went from topping out at 6500rpm to 7200.
  5. yes and it still ticks. i think its the worn intake rocker. what should i do with the gas tank?
  6. ok so took the head off and found that i had indeed timed the cam to the 'F' mark which is exactly one tooth ahead of the 'T' mark on the flywheel. re timed it back to the 'T' mark and as i was putting the head back together noticed that the intake rocker arm is worn where it contacts the cam lobe. not sure if this really matters a lot but i did check the valve clearance at tdc and intake was 004 and exhaust was 006. Was looking fir a new gas tank as thats the next issue.. a replacement is around $200.. the one I have has paint flakes and A LOT of rust flakes in it. was wondering about cutting it in half. cleaning and graniding the iside down and welding it back together? looking for advice on that.. so far I haven't put any parts into this machine but I know that it needs new brake and choke cables.. had to cut the old ones out with bolt cutters just to get the bike to roll.
  7. same here. never had one do this. it doesnt click or make any noise when you turn the key or anything
  8. the vids i tried to upload were too long so i put them on yt as one vid. hopefully next year i can video more interesting stuff.. this was the first ride so it was slower and we didnt really do anything..
  9. ok. the last it was started, it ran great. the other thing is the battery is dead- ive been jumping it so i was thinking i could just hook the neg lead from the jumper cables to the mower battery and the pos to the starter
  10. i know this isnt an atv but same type of thing. I have a riding mower im fixing and selling for my aunt and it has a dead battery. i jumped it off my atv and when i turn the key nothing at all happens. i tried jumping the relay still nothing. this is with the seat down. you wouldnt think this mower would have issues as its a top-of-the-line brand and almost brand new (aunt found it for a good price, still got tits on tires, just sat for a couple months in a mechanic shop
  11. when i have a light bar, i've always just wired it into the low or high beam and let it go.. havnt had trouble out of them yet...
  12. the arm moves freely by hand both ways- not spring-loaded. I'm thinking the linkage inside the clutch cover is not connecting or something
  13. pressure regulator sounds like a culprit.. I would guess your problem is with carb or fuel line rather than the engine. the 500cc engine that polaris makes rarely give issues.
  14. does your atv have a fuel pump? If so it is most likely the issue. I have an 04 sportsman 500 and i bypassed the fuel pump and my bike started hydro-locking and flooding out the airbox. new fuel pump and it runs perfectly
  15. all 5 gears work and shift while the bike is running. nothing as in the clutch pulls to the handle without any resistance like its not connecting and pulling the clutch inside the engine
  16. got the warrior running today. started right up, runs a little lean but to be expected with no air filter. So surprised it runs so well for being all rusty inside from the water. very loud with the db exhaust. i started and ran it with no chain on because of the clutch. so the clutch is doing nothing. I have no clue what is going on with the clutch? inside looked great, outside is working: cable, handle, lever... why is there nothing behind it?
  17. check that your brakes are not locking up or rubbing. the older cvt polaris' bikes do have to have some throttle to get going. a good way to check that the brakes are not rubbing is to push it in neutral.
  18. found out the motor isnt locked up- shifter was slipping because the side cover was off and not holding the linkage in place. The clutch hasnt changed, just seems like theres nothing there when you pull the handle. I'm in AL and brought it with me to get my friend to weld the muffler back together (it broke somehow) and it needs a battery. So i cleaned the carb, and put the engine back together (honed the cylinder and put the piston and rings form that big bear (same engine) in it and jumped it, makes 70psi compression! so my main issue now it the clutch seems like theres nothing behind it. not sure whats wrong. the arm is good, the cable it good, the inside (actual clutch itself) didnt look to be jammed, worn, or stuck...not sure whats wrong with it.
  19. awesome, its taking a back burner for now till i get another quad fixed, but its for sale once fixed and running
  20. sounds like a short/loose connection somewhere.
  21. yea def get it running before you worry about the carb. On mine, i wasnt getting spark until i ran through the wiring harness and greased all the connections. with a bike that old, its easy for the connections to corrode and not connect anymore
  22. sounds like wheels bearings to me- both sides. they are binding up causing a drag randomly on one side of the quad or the other.
  23. yep got all the tools form the bayou and big bear
