  1. will do. yes there is a carb in the box. I wouldnt jump to conclusions its for the honda tho- looks like a bayou carb.
  2. so I'm hoping if luck is on my side (it never is and i dont believe in it lol), basic tear-down (plastics off) and a good clean, a carb clean, freed up clutch cable, new battery, new airbox, new exhaust, (maybe) some new tires cause the old ones are worn down, and some other odds and ins and this bike will be running like a champ... If i divide what I paid for the bunch, I think I gave around $300 for this bike.
  3. I'm tellin you man- these bikes got a lot of horse torques
  4. just posting to close out this thread: sold on CL for $250 as is. $150 profit. reason for not getting it running and getting more out of it? no time and too many projects haha
  5. recently picked up some project bikes off CL for cheap. got a honda fourtrax (the ancient 4x4 kind with the straight axle in the front as well as the rear and a back-up kick-start) plastics are crap, but my goal is to get running like a champ and patch the plastics up and sell to one of my many friends that want a reliable 4x4 for dirt cheap and doesnt care what it looks like. so the former owner says it needs carb rebuilt, but its sat for 3+ years since so who knows. things I see: carb is missing (he gave me a box of parts along with the bike), engine turns over and feels good with kick-start, brakes need work, battery missing (That always puts me off, cause then I know most likely someone's been tampering with the electrical.
  6. got 7 atvs off CL recently for a good price. one of which is a yamaha warrior. anyone know where the vin is printed on this bike? Haha good place to start as I do not know year or size yet. The former owner says needs exhaust ans and clutch work. he said it ran fine until the clutch cable broke and then I couldn't get the new cable adjusted right and it would grind gears. things I see: clutch cable locked up again, no brakes, carb leaking (green with algae around the bowl and has gelled gas stalagtights on it), aftermarket exhaust melted the airbox so I need something different and a new air box. I would like the use the current exhaust if I can but I have a feeling its a redneck fix as it looks like there is an ace bandage holding it to the exhaust pipe (its an aftermarket slip-on exhaust), so I'm not sure about that- lets get the bike running first. also, battery (looks brand new, what a shame) is dead, 0 volts. Otherwise, bike looks to have not been wrecked, and plastics are ok (it sat outside under a 'tarp' for 3+ years since it was run last). any tips and advise on where to start first would be awesome as this is my first clutched bike (manual). the clutch is my main concern- I've never rode a clutched bike so I dont even know what its supposed to feel like. lol I'm spoiled on my automatic polaris
  7. 90s. not sure exact year. thats another thing I should probably do is find the vin and get that nailed down. anyone know where the vin is on this bike?
  8. update on this bike: Radiator finally filled up, fuel pump went out (I let dirt get into it when I ran it gravity-fed and it clogged it up or something..) ordered a new pump ($10). it still smokes condensation when its cold out, but no sweet smell and no smoke when its about 50. overall I love this bike, want to sell to get a newer/bigger sportsman. I still cant get over that it will burn out on asphalt even with a burnt up clutch that doesnt engage till half throttle.... just too much power in this bike.
  9. yea, am concerned about hydro locking it and doing some damage...
  10. It was running before with the oem carb, just also flooding and filling the airbox with gas.
  11. the compression was 60psi. I adjusted the valves to spec with no change. I'm gonna pop the oem carb back on to see if the aftermarket is indeed the issue.
  12. intake was about 0.11mm and ex was about 0.13 or 0.14mm
  13. was looking online and cant find a definite answer to what the valve clearance should be on a yammy big bear 350.
  14. thanks @Frank Angerano! will do next time. The float was fine on the oem carb, but the fork (cast aluminum part that holds the float axle in place) was broken off and missing. anyone know what the valve clearance spec is for this bike?
  15. yea I should have checked compression and valve clearance. all the issues screamed carb to me so thats why I jumped to the carb. the airbox had gas in it (carb flooding) and I took the carb bowl off and saw that one of the float forks was broken off. so it did need a carb. the owner is cheap like me (lol) and doesnt want to spend money on oem parts, hence the aftermarket carb. I had already fixed his bayou with an aftermarket carb and it worked a lot better than with the oem. and the aftermarket carbs on my polaris and bayou (sold) work perfectly.
  16. how do you check those without tearing it down? And i left it sitting with the compression tester for a minute and it the needle stayed the same (didnt edge down like it was leaking)
  17. yes. it was noticeable before, but it wouldnt idle before. now it idles great but wants to die with throttle
  18. next on the list. the thing that gets me was that it was running ok (had trouble starting and bogged a little), but now it dies with throttle but starts easy as my polaris...
  19. compression at 60psi. problem found. What next? this is reminding me a lot of the bayou....
  20. I figured out how to adjust the needle and adjusted it down (leaner), and it doesnt change the way it runs except that now it backfires too. I'm thinking the issue isnt carb related? I checked the timing- good, it has a new spark plug in it, brand new carb, maybe valve clearance? I will check compression. Anyone know what the clearance spec is for this bike?
  21. wayyyy to loose. It should have about a inch or so wiggle room- you're looking at like 3 or 4 inches lol There should either be a tensioner or the rear axle adjusts- lift the rear end and there are some bolts to loosen and then the axle swings forward and backward- you want to pull it fairly tight as the chain loosens up with heat. Also make sure the chain is well oiled so none of the links are bound up- that will make it jump sprocket too even if its tight. that chain is so loose, it might have one too many links on it- I would try tightening it first tho
  22. Sounds like the carb is set too rich to me- what does your exhaust look like? Really smoky? I dont know about 2-strokes, but 4-strokes should have at least 100psi compression I believe.
  23. haha why would you want to unrelocate the radiator?
