  1. I always like reading these motocross articles, thanks for sharing.
  2. The black plastic knob attached to a cable is for adjusting the idle speed, not sure about a dial either unless that is whaat you are calling it. It sounds like there is still gunk or trash in your idle circuit jet or maybe the emulsion tube ,did you take that out and clean it. There is also a hidden jet down in a hole thats easy to miss.
  3. I know i kind of went through the same with my Eiger, PO drilled out the jets and it was on an aftermarket and he drilled them too large and i dint want to fool with that carb anymore, so i bought a used Kei Hin off Ebay and rebuilt it with an all Balls carb kit and its working good. Looking back if i was to do it again i would buy OEM parts to rebuild it with.
  4. I have been very impressed with it so far, handles really well, plenty of power on the base engine, i was a little concerned about that from reviews, still getting used to the sounds of the boxer engine or maybe its the 4 cylinder, never owned a 4, most of mine are V8 and the V6 in the jeep. I mainly got it for my wife she drives about 75 miles a day and we thought the extra gas milege would be a plus. She picked one out at the dealer and i talked him into letting her test drive it by herself, nervous with other people in the car, so he kept me for collateral, she took it on a 20 mile test drive, got back and said i like it this will work, shes more critical than i am, First car iv ever bought that i didnt drive.
  5. Thanks for sharing that information, i agree they are one of the better aftermarket parts brands.
  6. 👍 You are welcome, glad i could help.
  7. I think this one also covers the Kodiak: yfm400fwa{M}-2000 copy.pdf
  8. I may have one let me look.
  9. It certainly never hurts to freshen up the top end, i might do a compression check then add a little oil in the cylinder and see if it goes up, those engines are very resiliant but the rings can get worn. Thats bad about the CDI i would recheck my wiring with a diagraam to make sure everything is correct, if it just quit working i might look for a loose connection or bad ground, if it smoked its probably fried, check the voltage regulator and also check the stator to make sure its not shorted.
  10. Welcome, Glad to hear you are doing well after the surgery, your a young man to have such a problem. The Yamaha Kodiak and Big Bear were Yamahas flagship bikes for a while, i like them both, i have a Big Bear 400 very similar except the Kodiak is automatic, belt driven and water cooled. There are many of us on here that are expierienced with these bikes and will be glad to help. What kind of problems does it have: Engine stuck, no spark, no compression, no drive.
  11. I know what you mean i was just getting used to the bells and whistles on the 11 year old one and now i have one that beeps when i take my eyes off the road and turns off the car at a red light along with helping me steer and stop, all these safety features are going to cause me to wreck just trying to figure out what the car is trying to do.
  12. Those big chevy transmissions are fairly resiliant, depending on how it was used and how much towing of heavy objects it has done, hopefully it will last you a while, but it all goes back to money, we have become a throw away society because parts and labor has gotton so expensive, definately a different world than the one i grew up in, we fixed everything and used it until it couldnt be fixed anymore.
  13. Great you got it going, yes sometimes parts get worn that are not sold as replacement parts, so new is the way to go in that case.
  14. Yes they are all interferance engines
  15. Subaru newer engines have gone to a timing chain, but the new honda V6 still using a belt, another reason i went with subaru, i think the belts are good for what they are but annoying to remember to get them changed.
  16. Well! It took a while but i finally pulled the trigger and got the Subaru Outback. I think it will better suit our needs than the Honda Pilot. I thik the Honda is probably the better vehicle, but its big and bulky and not really what we needed. There were things i didnt like about both vehicles, the pilots new engine which is a powerful V6 has auto shutoff of 3 cylinders when not needed, i dont like that technology, when it goes down its very expeensive to repair, the shifter has also been relocated to the console, electronic switches, looked like a recipe for diasaster, and gas milege was kind of bad, but not really for a vehicle that large. Subaru gets great gas milege, dont like the CVT transmission and i will have to get used to the boxer engine, i have never owned a Japanese car, im a Jeep Guy all the way, but this is mainly for my wife to haul grankids around in, she babysits everyday while my daughter works, she likes Jeeps also, so we will see how it pans out. Thanks for all the input.
  17. Sorry to hear that good you are doing better, weather great for riding
  18. Agreed! It is temporary, after you get a few and get them up and running and looking good, then you have to decide which one to ride today, and maintenance, it seems like you never get finished with one before you want to start on another.
  19. I think 15 ft pds is all thats required for the oil pump bolts.
  20. Hmmm! You haave replaced most everything related i would have guessed the starter cutout relay except for the lights flickering , that kind of points to a bad ground, time to start checking wiring connections.
