  1. Hey all, Just picked up two dead mid-90's Kawasaki Bayou 220s for $250. Already have one running on starting fluid and it sounds healthier than expected. Moving onto a thorough carb cleaning and refurb of the brakes next. These are our first ATVs and we're excited to make family memories on simple, approachable machines on our newly acquired land. In case anyone reads this, is it worth rushing to 10 posts here to get the Bayou 220 FSM if I already have a Bayou 250 FSM? Thanks, Matt

  2. Hello there! I'm new to the forums, but not new to the hobby. Admittedly though, I'm not super mechanically capable. But usually my contributions result in the problems I've attempted to solve via help with the forums and I will post my solutions. Or it I've solved a problem myself, I will post about it and how I solved it. I've owned a lot of used (ever bought new) ATV's from: Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Polaris. From sport to 4x4, and have developed all my biased opinions of each brand. Well that's my intro in a nutshell!

  3. Hey all, from SW Virginia here. I just picked up a '01 Bombardier Quest 650 on the cheap (seller couldn't get it to start). After correctly plumbing the fuel pump (new pump the prior owner installed but had the hoses going backwards lol) and cleaning the carb and fuel tank, repaired all the batt - and batt+ connections she lives!! I had swore to the wife unit I wouldn't be dragging another "project" home but I couldn't pass it up, it had new tires, new starter, new fuel pump and low hrs. All's good after she took it for a ride! 😆 It rides like a tank, very stable and tons of power.

  6. Hi guys, newbie from Ohio. I have a 1987 Honda trx250 that I have had for a long time. It is fun and handy around the farm and in the woods. Just recently bought a used and abused 1994 Yamaha Kodiak 400 from my sil that gave up on it. Always wanted a 4x4, just could not come up to the cost. I hope to get it working with your help. It does run and move, but needs parts. Thanks in advance, Robert

  9. Newbi, if you’re going to ride atv’s sooner or later you’ll have to learn to work them. I’m no expert but will share what I know with you. Just ask and if I know am willing to help out. Welcome to the forum

  10. Welcome all! Mehim, what is your budget? Newbie, I'd go get a battery tender from harbor freight or some place like that. It's not really meant to be a battery charger but it will slowly charge the battery. That will tell you if it's a parasitic draw or a different problem.

  15. Anthony here from Lopez/Dutch Mtn. Pennsylvania. Own a 02 Honda recon 250es and a 21 Suzuki Kingquad 750. Been riding all my life. Our township enacted an ordinance to permit atv on township roads here. Pretty sweet deal, 10 dollars for lifetime permit! Pays for the warning atv signs and speed limits in township without using tax dollars. 25 acres with trails all around me. Hope to learn so repair tips while here with the 02 Honda. Runs like a champ and no big concerns. My plan is to keep it as long as possible. So overhaul coming next winter is the plan.

  17. Hi -- I am from upstate NY and have a 1998 Polaris Big Boss 500 6x6. Best wheelbarrow I ever bought. Easiest way to bring a load of wood in to the shed. Great tool to launch the sail and fishing boats. Pull the dock out for the winter. Move top soil. I use it all the time.

  18. Hey all! I'm Andy from Wisconsin. My son just got his ATV cert and he and I are ready to hit the trails. I got him a 96 Polaris xPlorer 300. So I'm sure it'll need work here and there, so that's why I joined. I've found other forums (auto & hunting) that have been a wealth of knowledge. I'm sure I'll find the same here. Keep the muddy side down!

  19. David here from Arkansas. First time to post, and 1st time to ever own a quad. I bought an old Suzuki LT185 at an auction this past Saturday. Needs a carb (missing) and a few other repairs. Has great compression. I also bought a 2012 RZR 800 S with a blown motor for $800 at the same auction. Looking forward to getting my hands dirty fixing these up. We rented a side by side a few months back and loved it, so I've been looking for some cheap ones for a while. My wife even likes it, and that's saying a lot. Hopefully this is something we can enjoy as a family.

  21. The stator is good, I checked that. I got the specs on line. I'm thinking maybe a broken wire , I will send some pictures this morning.

  22. With that Yamaha with no spark, the stator coils need to be tested. I've seen pickup/source coils fail on them a few times.

  28. Scarecrow, from Oklahoma, next year moving to my property in Eastern Arkansas to build an off grid homestead to live and teach my kids the old ways while I'm young enough to physically be able to do so. We have an 80's big red honda 3, an 03 honda rancher 350 4x4, and my newest project a kawasaki bayou 300 4x4 I'm trying to figure out.

  29. I'm from Casper Wy and my neighbor gave me an abandoned 1995 Polaris magnum 425 4X4 that's been sitting outside for at least 5 years. It's been Bubba'd quite a bit and I'm just trying to get it going again. Would be a great utility quad for my property.

  32. Hi, Pär from south Sweden I have a '94 Kawasaki KLF300 Bayou in pretty good condition, however she's a bit grumpy right now and I'm doing my best to get her running again with the help of you and Youtube. I'll make sure to contribute as much as I can, I'm not a mechanic, but my troubleshooting process will in itself be worth documenting for future reference 😎 Here's a photo from last summer a couple of weeks after I got her, so far she's been going for 900 hours, so quite a lot more to give! / Pär, Sweden

  39. Newbie here from just outside of Nashville Tn. Born and raised here. Just recently acquired a 97 Polaris Express 300 and trying to learn this crazy thing. Watched YouTube so much I have confused myself, hoping to find some firsthand info from a community of ATV'ers rather than half informative videos, lol.. Glad to be a part of the forum!!
