  1. I don’t think the tape is a good idea. I would go back to the factory carb and set your fuel/air screw to 2-1/2 turns out from a snug tight position.  That should get you running enough to tune it. Either 1/4 turn in or out. The higher it revs while turning the better. Lower the idle if the engine revs to high.

Now as far as not running right and air box etc.  Yes the air box and filter need to be in place. And that needs to be done prior to adjusting the fuel/air screw.

Now after that is done you should check spark quality as well as add a new spark plug.  Make sure you have a good spark.

Is the fuel fresh ? And the valve (petcock) on the tank flowing good fuel ?

  2. So for us here in NY southern zone the deer rifle hunting season opens up tomorrow morning at sun up!  Looks like about 8-10 inches of ❄️  fell up where we hunt.

The bikes are ready, gear loaded and ready to go bags packed and the truck gassed up!

To all my fellow hunters that will be out there chasing that big buck; should some of us get lucky..... may be using their ATV to load up that deer and take him to the butcher  I say good luck be careful and be safe.

Post some pics of how you did or didn’t do lol because it’s not about always shooting something but the time spent enjoying the woods and fresh air and riding in the ❄️!

My oldest boy is of age to have his rifle and big game tag this year so this is a special year, wish him some Quadcrazy luck!

Im banking on one of us getting lucky 🦌 this year especially bc I am out of venison 😢. I make some really good jerky and pot roast!

    Hope to see some pics!

  3. Awesome I bet you can’t wait to get started on the seals! If you look at one of my older posts I tore down my bayou 400 and did the valve seals.  They were probably fine but since the head was off i figured might as well do them.  Plus the seals came with the gasket kit anyway. I should have bought the valve compressor tool but wound up making one.

Super important is the timing! Make sure your at TDC and the “T” mark on the fly wheel and the timing marks are where they belong on the top end  pryor to removal and dont rotate the crank during this process If possible. You can always put it back if it happens but I like to leave it right where I took it off.  Also take a few pics during just in case you need to take a look back.

Valve cover bolts are all different  lengths so number them with a sharpie and tape.

When reassembling use plenty of lube/grease on the lobes and moving parts to avoid friction during the  initial restart.

After reasembly just spin the motor a few times without the spark plug just to make sure everything is smooth and oil pumps up to the head.  👊🏻

  4. Catskills around ellenville, I’ve been at the place since I’m 12.  I’m looking for a bigger piece now.  I’ve been looking for about a year now.  We love to hunt, fish and ride so I’m looking for 50+ acres.

Hard to find what I’m looking for.   I’m headed up this weekend to look at a few places.

  5. Wow blast from the past. I remember that bike.   One of the first bikes with the new type “full floater” swing arm.  I had a friend  that only rode that and RM’s.  I remember Yamaha had the same bike color and all.

Look at that kick starter.  It’s like 5 feet long!

I started out on a Z50 worked my way up to a cr80 to a 125. Started racing Kawasaki 250 cc class for a few years and fell in love with my first fourtrax in the late 80’s/90’s blasting through the woods in upstate NY and I’ve been Quadcrazy since!!!!!

Ok thanks for making me feel like an old man!

  6. It’s posable that it’s an aftermarket but I can’t be 100%. But by the looks I would say yes. Hears my issue with the aftermarket if it is one.  I’ve purchased one before and put it on my Polaris 90. Bike fired right up and ran good for the first 3/4 throttle. After that it was a hot mess.  So I picked up a used factory carb and rebuilt it and put it in the bike.  It ran great.  I took the cheaper one apart to see what was going on and found nothing!!!!  I put it back on the bike to see how it performed and the same thing.  Go figure.  Not quite sure what’s what but it was def someplace in that carb causing a problem. Maybe the casting when made but not sure.  I am a big fan of oem replacements. Just the way it is. I would try to locate a used factory carb, rebuild  and put that on so you can put that end to rest.  As far as valve seals....  that should stop the burn off you are getting once replaced.

  7. Outstanding ! I was “polarized” lol get it Polaris? by the detail in the process and the pics.  Well done brother. We can all read and visualize the posts here with people having problems, sharing info etc but the pictures really clarify a lot and help out with understanding what’s going on. 👍

  8. So one thing I enjoy about Quadcrazy is the amount of diversity when it comes to the bike/brand of choice.

We all hear about so many different brands/types that we need help or helping out with!

Myself ive had just about every brand bike except for a Suzuki which I’m currently seeking as my next project😜. I currently have 5 quads and they are all different in brand except for two Honda’s one of which is a newer bike fuel injected. I have to say so far through all the bikes I’ve worked on my brand of choice would be Honda! I think they make a great product!  I love the older carburetor bikes!

Now I’m sure some of the other members feel differently and I would like to hear your bike of choice and why?  Wether it be the repairs, handling, look, safety, simplicity, electronics etc!!!!!!!

One of the reasons I bring this up is I have friend that recently purchased a can am new!

I asked him why a can am after all the years of Polaris?  He said it’s a nice looking bike and wanted to try something new.

He has rode the bike three or four times and hated it!  So a trip back to the dealer he traded it in for a Polaris and he’s very happy now.  A costly mistake since he lost money on the can am but back to his Polaris that he said he will never stray again.

    Let’s hear it !
