  1. gotcha yea i was afraid of that tho i have heard that some nicer batteries will come back from the dead so i wanted to give it a shot and maybe save some $$$ (these are like the big diesel batteries two are for a tractor the other is for a bulldozer. not sure what new batteries will run but im sure it wont be cheap. do yall think the viking charger listed preveously will handle a bigger battery for a diesel motor with high cca or should i get something beafier? and yes i agree with @davefrombcthat once batteries drain and sit drained for a while they go to crap but i still wnated to give them a shot and if not that at least have something to use later on for big or small batteries
  2. also wanted to say if it leaks acid from your battery make sure to clean any that might have gotten on your atv. acid will take the finish off plastic, can melt/burn paint off of metal and then cause the metal to rust really bad. i have a 4runner i bought that had an old battery explode under the hood that the owner didnt bother to clean the acid off and now the front passenger suspension is super rusty on the otherwise rust free frame. had a question about trickle chargers. so i found that i could hook up a good battery to a drained one and "trick" the trickle charger into charging both when it otherwise wouldnt have charged the drained battery. now i have three batteries off some farm equipment that have sat for a while and drained and hooking up a good battery isnt enough to trick the trickle charger into charging them. what battery charger (not maintaner like what you get for $10 online of $5 at harbor freight) would yall recommend?
  3. i had something similar to this.. had a craigslist ad up a year or so ago and a guy txts me asking me to give him a verification code to make sure i was real and i get a g-xxxxxx code txt that you get when you forget your google account password and have to enter a code they txt to your phone to make sure its you. so basically if i had given him the code then i would have been locked out of my google account and he would have access to my card number and passwords to pretty much everything. i actually messed with him and gave him a wrong 6 digit code several times and said i messed it up when he said they were wrong and had him send it again and again.. just cause i like to waste as much of their time as possible since i lost 3500 to them.. maybe piss them off enough theyll at least leave me alone
  4. what does the front casing cover on these bikes? maybe something screwed itself in there and the cracked case was just a symptom? yea obviously theres some valve ticking or something going on in the top end but cases dont just crack themselves.. either something hit against it from the inside or from the outside. maybe if it was from the inside then thats affecting the top end and maybe its a different issue all together.
  5. i would check the spark plug like@Ajmboy said. thatll tell you if the motor is running rich or lean. white is lean black is rich (or burning oil) corndog is what you want.
  6. thats a testron/arctic cat product. arctic cat lost its popularity when it started using the kawasaki 650 v twin motor which tend to jump time. other then that id say the old arctic cat atvs are great machines as well as the new textron off-road models. yes they arnt well known, but from what ive gathered they are right there with the new yamahas and suzukis and even close to polaris in performance and quality. my personal experience is to buy a gently used atv (mint condition with a couple hundred miles on it) instead of paying the full price just to drive it off the dealership floor but thats just me..
  7. great advice and is similar to what ive said. i think the parents know what their kids can and cant handle.. i was 13 when i started riding atvs and i learned on a sportsman 500cc. at 14 i bought a kawasaki bayou 300 and now at 17 ive owned over 15 atvs and currently have two scrambler 850s. the key is to have a governor on that throttle thumb and know the machines limits.
  8. welcome welcome
  9. Y’all missed out had a great time FullSizeRender.mov FullSizeRender.mov
  10. ive noticed an influx of buying/selling in the used atv world too (i live in southern VA). i think youre correct on the reasons but wanted to add one more- with all the attractions and everything being shut down for this scamdemic.. ive heard RV sales are through the roof and offroad vehicles including SXSs and ATVs also. (i say scamdemic because i think the COVID 'pandemic' was blown out of proportion by the media- dont get me wrong i think COVID is serious just like the flu, but i dont think its necessary nor prevents the spread to try and close everything down) -just wanted to clarify
  11. hey know its short notice but me and my dad are headed to busco beach this weekend. plan on riding saturday the 17th (10-17-20). just thought about throwing this out there if anyone wants some last minute riding plans in NC! also ill post here again if i plan to ride somewhere or at busco again in the future.. sorry for the short notice!
  12. i dont see the wiring diagram in the manual which surprises me. it even has a electrical section where i thought it would be but ive searched through the whole manual to no avail. guess ill have to look on good ol' images and try and find one lol
  13. welcome back brother. cant wait to here some good stories!
  14. ok thanks. i did download the manual from here and am going through it. i assume there would be a wiring diagram in there?
  15. hows the best way to check to make sure the wires are not crossed?
  16. agreed. cheapest i can find it about 150 tho.. i guess if it dont work i can return it.. and thats another thing.. yall think two wires could be crossed on it? the whole bike has been rebuilt... wiring harness has been chopped up some here and there and its got a new crank case on it
  17. I’m going to see how much a new Scrambler 850 computer is for it from Polaris cause I really don’t want to take the computer off my other bike it’s a pain to do and the wiring job on the base model from the former owner is shady I’d rather not screw my good ecu😂
  18. now heres an idea: i still have my other 2013 scrambler 850 LE (with EPS). could i swap computers and see how my busted scrambler runs or not? i believe the models are the same except one has EPS
  19. Found out the ecu is off of a sportsman lol would that affect it at all? As far as I know it’s the same motor the only differences that I can think of would be this model doesn’t have EPS and scramblers are tuned more aggressive then sportsmans
  20. TPS wires come straight from the ecu so would that be shot or is there something else that would be effecting it?
  21. Hey just picked up another scrambler 850 was told the tps was bad. This atv has been beet to hell. Wiring has been tinkered with the crankcase has been replaced recently and the motor rebuilt (can see horizontal scores thru spark plug hole where it’s just been honed out and rebuilt) my guess is it was ragged out till the motor blew a rod and rebuilt but the clown that did it couldn’t get it to run again and sold it. When I bought it it would pulse and smoke black at idle and die with throttle. New tps installed and it won’t run period. I went to celebrate it and I’m getting 5 volts on 2 of the 3 wires running to the tps. Is this normal and if so how should I celebrate it?
  22. if its leaking cooland its the head gasket or (very rarely) a cracked head. if its leaking air into the exhaust its a valve. did you torque your head bolts to spec and did you thoroughly clean the old head gasket off before rebuilding? it could mayb be a warped head but if its an internal leak its most likely the head gasket
  23. you said it didnt have compression whats it making? and are you sure its coolant coming out and not condensation or gas?
  24. theres no way it could be leaking coolant from the exhaust because in order to fill the manifold and pipe to the point where the coolant reaches the exhaust, the motor would have to be hydro locked with coolant
  25. i started on a 01 polaris sportsman 500cc at 13. id go with a older honda recon 250 (or comparable size in another brand atv) for a 10 year old to start off with if hes driving it unattended. i later bought another sportsman 500 and let one of my friends little brother drive it he was 9 its all about having respect for the machine you know your son and what he can handle. personally i would not let a pre 14 year old drive a cvt 500cc and bigger atv by himself however ive let much younger folks drive my atvs with me sitting right behind in case anything goes wrong.
