  1. agreed. cheapest i can find it about 150 tho.. i guess if it dont work i can return it.. and thats another thing.. yall think two wires could be crossed on it? the whole bike has been rebuilt... wiring harness has been chopped up some here and there and its got a new crank case on it
  2. I’m going to see how much a new Scrambler 850 computer is for it from Polaris cause I really don’t want to take the computer off my other bike it’s a pain to do and the wiring job on the base model from the former owner is shady I’d rather not screw my good ecu😂
  3. now heres an idea: i still have my other 2013 scrambler 850 LE (with EPS). could i swap computers and see how my busted scrambler runs or not? i believe the models are the same except one has EPS
  4. Found out the ecu is off of a sportsman lol would that affect it at all? As far as I know it’s the same motor the only differences that I can think of would be this model doesn’t have EPS and scramblers are tuned more aggressive then sportsmans
  5. TPS wires come straight from the ecu so would that be shot or is there something else that would be effecting it?
  6. Hey just picked up another scrambler 850 was told the tps was bad. This atv has been beet to hell. Wiring has been tinkered with the crankcase has been replaced recently and the motor rebuilt (can see horizontal scores thru spark plug hole where it’s just been honed out and rebuilt) my guess is it was ragged out till the motor blew a rod and rebuilt but the clown that did it couldn’t get it to run again and sold it. When I bought it it would pulse and smoke black at idle and die with throttle. New tps installed and it won’t run period. I went to celebrate it and I’m getting 5 volts on 2 of the 3 wires running to the tps. Is this normal and if so how should I celebrate it?
  7. if its leaking cooland its the head gasket or (very rarely) a cracked head. if its leaking air into the exhaust its a valve. did you torque your head bolts to spec and did you thoroughly clean the old head gasket off before rebuilding? it could mayb be a warped head but if its an internal leak its most likely the head gasket
  8. you said it didnt have compression whats it making? and are you sure its coolant coming out and not condensation or gas?
  9. theres no way it could be leaking coolant from the exhaust because in order to fill the manifold and pipe to the point where the coolant reaches the exhaust, the motor would have to be hydro locked with coolant
  10. i started on a 01 polaris sportsman 500cc at 13. id go with a older honda recon 250 (or comparable size in another brand atv) for a 10 year old to start off with if hes driving it unattended. i later bought another sportsman 500 and let one of my friends little brother drive it he was 9 its all about having respect for the machine you know your son and what he can handle. personally i would not let a pre 14 year old drive a cvt 500cc and bigger atv by himself however ive let much younger folks drive my atvs with me sitting right behind in case anything goes wrong.
  11. yea i did the same except i went to the dealer to find part number and then found the part on ebay. turned out to be the same cost but oh well.. was $35 something...
  12. ok so did a little digging found that the two cylinders have names (mag and pto) and that the mag cylinder is in the front and the pto cylinder in the back so i needed a mag cylinder ignition wire. after looking on polaris' parts diagrams i found the specific part number and then on to ebay searched 'polaris scrambler 4014007' and boom there is was for under $20. so maybe could we get a moderator (@Ajmboy ) to change the title of this forum to something like 'Polaris Scrambler PTO vs MAG ignition wires' or something? i think that would help out other ignorant folks like me and save them some trouble if theyre searching on the web for a similar issue. To wrap it up on a parallel twin atv like a scrambler or sportsman 850 or 1k, the PTO cylinder is in the rear and the MAG cylinder is in the front. could never find it written that plainly lol had to hinda guess and do a lot of digging
  13. okay so what should i look for and where should i look for it?
  14. Hey so i sold my 04 rubicon and wanted something new so i went to NC and bought a '13 scrambler 850XP LE EPS. love it the only issues with it when i bought it were a leak in the front tire and the mice had chewed through one of the spark plug wires. currently have a substitute hooking the chewed end to the ignition coil so itll run on both cylinders however im having an issue finding a replacement coil wire for it and was wondering if yall had any advice. i need the longer of the two coil wires and i can only find the shorter one online. will throw up some pics of it when i can
  15. was just searching through for any scrambler 850 info and saw this- the picture above is actually a sportsman 1k, not a scrambler.. for anyone who isnt familiar with the models so they arnt confused
  16. he out here repping polaris lol sweet rides man love both of them
  17. yea drums arnt for mud thats for sure- i took the Rubicon thru a pond and lost the rear brake pads- about a quart of water got in the drum and the glue that holds the pads to the shoes let go. Found out i had no brakes when i was cruising down a hill with a sharp curve at the bottom into the woods. so thanks honda lol i almost flipped it. ended up missing the turn and careening into the woods on two wheels lol
  18. sold this bike a couple weeks back wanted to update thread.. folks that bought it from me thought it was the greatest thing lol
  19. someone lost some $$$ there.. those dirtbikes and that scrambler to the left of the honda arnt cheap question: what excatly does impound mean like they take ur quad then u have to buy it back? or is it like getting ur car towed if you parked in the wrong place or what? dont have any personal experience with any of this lol
  20. so great idea@MarkinAR , heat worked great and the studs popped out with just minor beating. held the soldering torch on the stud for a minute or so until the backside of the stud started smoking then cut off the torch and gave it a good pop with the 4 pound sledge and most popped out 2nd or 3rd hit.
  21. yea but the studs is not what i need- i need the hubs for the kit without the studs in them
  22. my issue is getting the old studs out of the hub. i tried putting it in a vise and pressing them out and beating the crap out of them with a hammer should i get a shop press and if so where?
  23. hey so never ran into this before but i recently got a 04 honda rubicon 500. bought it from my doctor not running and the front brakes were locked up. cleaned the carb and it fired right up and runs great. these model atvs have drum brakes front and rear. not a fan. lost all brakes on this one when i hit some water and it got inside the rear drum case. so i ordered new shoes for the rear end no biggie. front is more complicated. has hydraulic drum brakes not sure who thought that was a good idea but the pistons in the drums rusted and locked up from it sitting with moisture in the drums. so i had a choice to make- 1. buy new brake pistons ($120 for a set of 4) or 2. order super atv's disc brake conversion kit for $250. i HATE drum brakes so i went with the conversion kit. it said it was easy to install with no specialty tools. so i order it and turns out i have to press the studs out of my hubs to get the disc on. anyone ever done this and if so how?
  24. funny story happened last week- me and a buddy were ripping down a back road on my honda rubicon when the front wheel fell off lol. didnt wreck just ran in the ditch with sparks flying. wheel almost rolled down the mountain but a tree caught it. happened do to me not putting in a cotter pin in the nut that holds the hub against the axle.
