Polaris xpress 300 grinding when going into any gear
CK1999_400ex replied to tkokenos's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
i have had several of the polaris quads and have had problems with them ... you should check to see if the belt is to tight and also if it isint then check to see if the clutch is grabbing and or draging ... if the rear pully on the belt system is turning while in idle then it will grind when trying to put it in gear ... -
2004 Kawasaki Prairie 700 Starting Problem
CK1999_400ex replied to garmi's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
i have an 04 700 and it requires me to choke it almost every time i start it the 1st time .. i always slowly turn the choke off as it starts to load up ... it is the nature of the 04 an 05 to be choked when starting cold ... it can be 80 + out and it will have to be choked the first start of the day . i changed the air filter and put a uni in it and it has been easyer to start ..you should run a high octain fuel in it also .. as that will make it easyer to start ... and it will run better and cooler ... -

Will bigger cams effect reliability of Honda 400ex
CK1999_400ex replied to DeathMoose5000's topic in Honda ATV Forum
i also have the 07 motor and my cam is an 98 xr400 ... if you really want your 400 to come alive buy a complete xr400 motor and put the internals from it in your ex block and use the xr side cases and have kick start ... it will rev alot faster and be nasty ... but it dosent have the rotating weight of the ex motor and will stall alot easyer ... but it will keep up with any stock 450R hondas and is leagal in most all compitions for the 400 class ... -
Will bigger cams effect reliability of Honda 400ex

use a stock XR 400 dirt bike cam ... they will give you alot more grunt through the whole rpm range .. and they are fairly cheap on ebay -
Will bigger cams effect reliability of Honda 400ex
CK1999_400ex replied to DeathMoose5000's topic in Honda ATV Forum
a stage 1 or stage 2 cam will not hurt ... but if you go with any thing larger then it will ! i run an XR 400 cam in 1 of mine and it was a big difference .. the dirt bike cam is a little more than a stage 1 cam for the 400ex .. but is a little less than a stage 2 ... its kind of in the middle ... and it is a stock honda cam and is legal to run in any stock 400 class ... i run a few hill climbs that the motor must remain stock... so its legal but its kind of not ...lol... if ya want to know any more about the 400ex send me a message ... i own 2 of the 400 ex's and have 9 motors that i use for different races and or classes that i run... -

the cam gear has 3 marks on it .. the 2 lines on it should be flat/even with the top of the head .. and the dot mark should be pointing up in the center ... some of the motors will not line up exactly with the flat plain of the head .. and it will be ok if its off just a little .. i have sever of the 400ex motors and have built over a dozen .. if you need any more info .. just ask .. thanks ..
-
ok .. no prob... if you have any more questions about the 400ex just ask...

the only real issue i have had with any of mine is the oil ring... and the rear axle bearings ... but thats pretty much it as far as running and riding ...
-
it probibly need a set of rings ... i have a 400ex motor that u use for racing and hill climbing that has done the same thing several times ... the oil ging looses it's tension and compresses into the oil ring grove on the piston ... i bought a heavy duty set of rings and put in mine and it lasted twice as long b 4 it needed rings again..the 400ex runs hot ... even from the factory and the stock jetting is a little on the lean side in most cases.. a little jetting will help with it running as hot ... i have 2 400ex's and 4 extra motors that i keep ready for a swap incase i need 1 ... i ride my machines pretty hard .. if the bore of the machine your are talking about is in good shape i would re ring it and see how it is .. also while u have ot apart you could put valve seals in it fairly easy .. an kill 2 bird with 1 stone .. so to say ... lol... if you have any more quastions about the 400ex just ask .. i have rebuilt many of the 400ex motors and have come across all kinds of things with them ..

Cops on ATVs at puri in Orissa.India
CK1999_400ex replied to rangersAF's topic in General ATV Discussion
the local sheriff's department has atv's they use at the fair grounds and they have also used them at local areas that people ride at to stop them and check to see if the atv's are stolen.. they have even used them when looking in the local river bottoms for drugs that are being grown ...lol -
What the average lifespan of an ATV?
CK1999_400ex replied to Phattwoohie's topic in General ATV Discussion
i have a 250 R honda that is a 1987 with over 5000 hours on it and who knows how many miles ... and it still looks and runs like new ... but maintace is KEY in the life of an atv ... im a mechanic and i take care of my toys ..... the pic of my 400ex under my name is a 1999 and it has the newer plastic on it .. but the original plastic looks as good as the new stuff .. and my atv is not beat up .. and i maintain it on a regular basis .. -
i have a 2002 rancher 350 es that has had several shift problems and it usually leads to the angle sensor or the electronic shift actuator i have had these problems several times and had to replace both of them ..

1997 honda foreman what kind of oil?? help!
CK1999_400ex replied to piebelly's topic in Honda ATV Forum
i use rotella 15 w 40 in my honda 400 it lasts longer (dosent get thin as quick) as most other oils i use ... i have friends that race also and use it in every atv they have and race ... 1 friend is even sponsered by another oil company and he puts the oil from his sponser in his haul trucks motor and refills the containers with the rotella 15w 40 and puts it in his quad instead of the sponsers oil ... and most of the guys that i ride with and race with use the rotella -
sprocket size changes will give you more grunt in the lower end but you will lose top end speed ... or vise versa depending on the sizes you use ..and its cheap ...
