I know what you mean it doesn't take long to sink a lot of money into one. I try to look at it as, im fixing this up to use, maybe I have more in it than its worth, but its good and it will do what I want it to do and its cheaper than anew one.

With the crack that's good that you are replacing it would be hard to bend back exact.

Wow you have done a lot , it does seem like fuel delivery but you have changed all that, so your on the right track maybe CDI is not advancing timing enough to keep up.

Sometimes gas can leak past a worn float needle and seat you should replace it. I usually turn my gas off when not running and its going to be sitting for a while. I got used to doing that with my lawn tractors, briggs are notorious for that.

Ive noticed that also, the things have been abused so many years with little to no maintenance and just pieced back together when things don't work right. It will take a little patience to get it back right nickel and diming here and there but once you get it back right you will be proud and know it right. Then you can take care of it the way it should have been done from new. I don't know how bad you are bent but you may be able to take it out and. bend it back with heat. One of mine does not sit square either still trying to figure out why, it doesn't seem to be bent and does not cause any problems, but I don't like it, its like it needs an alignment.

OEM carb should say Mikuni on it aftermarket no writing at all , some oil may come out from the filter but always drain oil from drain plug on bottom of engine, choke plunger should just pull out of the carb if the threads on the plastic piece are stripped if not unscrew it mine are always stripped. Good job on hardwood floors. Thats next on my agenda. Oh, good job on the bearings ,they can be a bear sometimes.

If it has stopped working completely sounds like power is not getting to the unit I would start by checking to make sure you have power going in.

Thanks guys for the quick response. Iv been checking the existing wiring harness and it seems to all be intact did not notice any problems except for the missing parts the coil that came with it looked like it had never been on a bike was bad, primary resistance was good no resistance whatsoever on the secondary even took the wire and cap off still nothing. The key is missing have to get a new switch and all the other parts I mentioned earlier. You are right Mech about the CDI it like the wire hub central all the wires go there with 3 big plugs. I was thinking the red and white was hot and I might be able to feed voltage there directly to see if it would spark but was not sure if it needed 12 volts there or lower, the service manual didn't really say or I missed it, it doesn't really tell you a check for CDI it has you run all these other tests and if they pass and still no spark replace the CDI. I think I will take your advise go ahead and hook everything else back up and then start looking for the problem.

Finally getting around to the Yamaha Big Bear that followed me home in August. It is a mess. I got it off of marketplace, the add stated " runs like nothing is wrong the only thing that's wrong is it needs a new wiring harness". So iv been looking for a new wiring harness although it came with a wiring harness that was out of the bike, so I assumed he had ripped it out. All the plastics were off and no screws or bolts to reinstall but they were in good shape. The coil, voltage regulator and starter solenoid was missing but came with new one. So I go out expecting to start installing the wiring harness and find out its still in tact with these parts missing. The first thing I found was the engine was stuck and there was no spark plug in it. I noticed when I bought it that the pull starter wouldn't rotate the engine but he assured me the engine wasn't stuck that there was something wrong with the pull starter, I was skeptical but took him at his word. I didn't check it that closely because I was really just buying it for the tires and wheels they were worth twice what I paid for the bike. Im a little new at buying on marketplace and am just angry that someone would lie like that, now I don't know if anything is really wrong with the wiring harness, im probably too trusting I usually trust people until they give me a reason not too. I would have bought it anyway, if I go to the trouble of hooking up my trailer and wench and driving there its coming home with me, long as its a Honda or Yamaha I can fix it. It took PB Blaster about 24 hr and I got the engine freed up, and it has good compression, using ye ole thumb over the hole test, and the pull starter works fine Thats enough of that, now for my real question, before I go to the trouble of chasing the wiring problem down I would like to see if the engine is ok , is there anyway to feed voltage directly into the cdi to make it spark.

I haven't seen one of those in a long time, I think you guys are right on about the year. What I remember about them is they were a lot of fun to ride, small and light. Good job getting it running.

Every time I have had these kind of problems I just replace the regulator first and if no go then the injector. I have had injectors so clogged that I could not get them clean.

Agreed, there is something about riding through the wilderness that is relaxing, no pressure, no rat race just peaceful.

Had one, petcock went bad, bolt pattern was different from standard, took mwe months to get one from china.

It works very well , I also have one made by Goodyear, they look like twins , both work very well.

Good, you got it going, sounds like your engine is in good shape, the white smoke is just the marvel mystery oil burning off .

I haven't noticed any of mine being top heavy, I guess it depends on who you ask and what type of riding they do , if that's a concern I would probably look for one with the widest footprint. Looking to buy new or used, do your homework read some reviews and when you decide on what you want ask the forum, we can tell you what we know, good and bad.

Thats good so it is pressuring up, I would check my pressure before the regulator, running it should be about 35 PSI, it will be lower at first and them build up to that.

Side by sides are great they have a steering wheel which I like, but they are very expensive, I have utility quads and I use them for exactly what you want to use them for, running around my property, I feel like they are more versatile, if you want to haul things use a trailer if you are just going to mailbox no trailer needed , if you want to take them to the woods they are smaller and easier to maneuver and more powerful to climb hills. They all need maintenance to keep them running properly and if not abused they will run a long time without any problems.

New battery will certainly help with diagnosing the problem, I don't play around with batteries when they get weak I replace them, there are so much electronics on them now that needs the correct voltage to run and operate properly.
