Universal Quad oil

Recommended Posts

I have a gentleman that asked me to service his bayou for him.  I have always wondered what oil should be used in atv engines?  Pros?  Cons?  What weight should be used in what type of weather?  Is there one kind that I could bulk buy and safely used in any quad I worked on or owned?  What about performance?  Engine Life?  This has always been a 🤔🤔🤔 area for me with quads as far as why you would use one type of oil over another....

Thanks!

on my 4 strokes I always used Valvoline. Its now like this:

Amazon ATV Oil

Amazon has it for a pack of 6 but if you find it at walmart its cheaper. Here's an older topic on this oil

what weight is that?

Depends on the machine. Wether it's 2 stroke or 4.
Klotz, marvels mistery oil, yamalube, I've heard of people using gear oil as well. I personally like Lukas because it lubes like no other oil.

I was referring to 4 strokes

ok thanks!  Do you think 30w small engine oil would do ok?  And if not:nah:, why not

sorry missed this post. I would not use 30w small engine oil and specifically stick with ATV type oils because of the additives they use. Depending on what type of quad you have, those additives are important for the clutches and such.

I also have a 300 bayou, here in Redding CA we are expecting it to be over 100 degrees all week and it is not uncommon for it to hit 110. with our higher than average temps, would any of the previous posters have a different answer?

@mike costa, i would be confident in the Valvoline oil i run in all my machines..  you might try something thicker for your temp- im not an expert so i dont know exactly how all that works..  i run the Valvoline atv/utv 10w/40 as mentioned above in all my atvs and so far havnt had any issues.

Hi guys. I have a problem where the quad will start and run well for about 5 minutes and then it dies. On inspection the airbox has oil in it (quite a lot). The oil is pumping through the cylinder head breather hose. This problem first happened suddenly. I have since done the top end including, piston, gaskets, rings and valves. I have also done the carb (not that I thought that this was the problem). The compression seems normal. The only thing that I can think of, is that I did not grind the valves well enough. Anyone experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? Any other thoughts?

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!
