Do the small 50cc ATVs have a way to set the speed?

Do the small 50cc's have a way to set the speed. Im wanting to get one for my kid and i need to set it to go slow. I know the chinese knock off fourwheelers do but i dont really want one of those

Most of the smaller ATVs I believe have throttle limiters and not speed adjusters exactly, but it will allow you to keep them below a certain speed if they can't give it more gas.

The smaller Arctic Cats have clutch spacers that can be removed if you want more speed.

if there is no throttle limiter installed you can always use a wedge in the carburetor slide to stop it from opening so much.

Some do, depends on brand and model.  Also could slack out the throttle cable so there is less travel?

never thought of running a cable thats to long. thats a much easier idea then wedging the slide.

On the old Suzuki 2-stroke 50cc, they used a restrictor plate/washer between the exhaust pipe and head to slow it down.

On the 80, they put a spacer on top of the carb slide so it would only open half way.

I was thinking you could just back out the adjustment.  I'm not sure how it attaches at the carb but there should be something on the handle bars.

You can also add a screw with a lock nut to limit the thumb lever.  I've seen this on several models.

I had the Polaris Outlaw 50 which is one of the smallest quads available. The CVT transmission allowed for very smooth starts. The front tires are set up with a lot of camber to prevent the quad from rolling over. The thumb throttle had a limiter bolt that you could turn in or out to limit the travel of the thumb throttle. While this limited the amount of power the engine produced it was still possible for the quad to achieve fairly quick speeds on a straight downhill run. It is a balancing act of allowing enough throttle travel for the torque to accelerate on an incline but not have to high of a top speed. 
The youth Polaris Ranger 150 has ride command which does limit the speed while not detracting from the torque. You download an app on your cellphone then select the speed exact speed and push the settings to the side by side.

Yep, throttle limiter screw.  Should be one on the throttle and can be adjusted in or out.  All it does is limit throttle travel.

The throttle limiter screw, screws into the throttle housing just opposite of the thumb lever, if you screw it in it limits the throttle from going full open.

The last little 50cc i worked on, had the throttle limit screw.  Great idea for kids.  make sure to look for it
