Are you new to the site? Where are you from?

Recommended Posts

I am located near Lebanon Pennsylvania, USA.  Will be using my Sportsman mostly for hunting and occasional trail riding.  Went through Sault Ste. Marie several years ago on my motorcycle.  I have a friend who lives in Houghton Mi  (on the other side of the  UP.).  And drove up for a visit.  Beautiful country where you live.

Howdy slarpa in Finland! how is the weather over there? winter coming soon? there is already enough snow up in the mountains near us for snowmobiling!

Hello Spok58,

We still waitin snow, hopefully it rains soon... but nowadays never know what kind of winter is. If we don’t get snow then we have to be content with ice fishing 🙂

Hello!

My name is James, a newcomer from North Carolina. Growing up, my father repaired motorcycles and ATVs for a living, so naturally I inherited the love motorsports and tinkering from him.

Personally, I'm more of a motorcycle guy (*gasp* I know, blasphemy), but I recently acquired my own first real quad: a 2000 Yamaha Big Bear 400 4x4! It needs quite a bit of work, but I'm looking forward to the challenge that I may expand my skills and knowledge. Now if I can just track down a service manual... 🤔

I look forward to getting to know and learn from you guys!

~ James

Don’t have a lot of experience fixing quads in general.  I have an 01 Sportsman that I just finished putting back together.  Bought a repair manual and watched a lot of youtube posts and got it done.  Bought most of my parts on Ebay or facebook marketplace.  Was a time consuming PITA project but I just had it up north deer hunting aand it worked great.  Good luck to you.

Hi-

I'm a 70 yr old retired RN with a mid-late 90's Kawasaki Bayou 300 4x4 which has been babied by the PO who bought it new.

He put a plow on it and built a blade lift using a Mercedes power window motor.  Plows great for about 45 minutes then the battery is pretty well drained...

Has worked well for me for a couple of Montana winters but it lost both forward and reverse suddenly while plowing-no warning, no noises, no grinding, no burning smell-nothing.

Posted a new topic on it here last week but so far no one has chimed in with any thoughts:

My riding experience has been pretty much limited to plowing and trips down to the mailbox ~ 1.4 miles away.

Too bad, since I live in the heart of God's country [NW Montana's Flathead valley].

If there are any local folks with Bayous who have experience with their innards I'd love to make your acquaintance!

I bought a used sportsman that was used on a Christmas tree farm.  I wound up having to take just about the whole thing apart.  Seemed like every time I took a part off I found 2 more that needed replacing.  If you are mechanically inclined at all I found a lot of helpful information on youtube.  I am 72 and it took me awhile but it is finished and worked well when we went hunting this year.  Good luck to you.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

OK, so I'm a boxing fan...anyone watch last night's fight between Manny Pacquiao & Ricky Hatton?

The PacMan is just too fast and too accurate. Floyd Mayweather just announced yesterday that he's coming out of retirement to fight Marquez in July. Maybe we'll get a December fight between Pretty Boy and the PacMan?
So, Manny has convincingly beaten up DeLaHoya (just announced his retirement from boxing) and now Hatton...

Sorry I suck at these forums so if you see this submitted under update status, my bad. Anyhow this is a new shock for a 96 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 it fits my 96 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 4x4 perfectly. Little narrower are the bottom than the original but everything else is perfect. I extended it to almost a half in from full extension because I’m pushing 350 pounds.  It rides and hold me well. So if any of y'allRace driven shock. have been looking for one and didn’t want to do the research here it is.
