Wheel hop traction issues on King Quad 500 axi

Hey All,

This is my first post about my first quad, so needless to say, I'm a newby!

My wife suprised me with a brand new Suzuki 500 axi for Christmas and I absolutely love it, but I do have a couple of issues I need to work through.

First, the tires are ITP Terracross 26x9x12 front and 26x11x12 rear. They are 1" taller and wider than stock. Shouldn't be an issue, right?

I went through some snow covered forest roads today and discovered I'm suffering severe wheel hop on the front when clawing for traction. The stock size tires did NOT do this, but then again, they just spun (stuck) in similar conditions.

The Terracross tires just chewed down and I kept going forward. Never got stuck but I was afraid I was going to snap an axle or blow the front diff. I powered down and kept the hop to a minimum but I'm VERY uncomfortable with the setup as it is and am considering putting the stock tires back on but hate their lack of traction.

HELP. Seriously, any suggestions. I cranked the front spring settings up two notches to try to remove the severe dive this quad has, but it did not help much. The front suspension just seems WAY too soft.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Jim

What pressure do you have your tires set at. Is this climbing a hill or through an obstacle? Or are you riding on a flat area?

5 psi should be max if you have hop. Wheel hop sometimes can be avoided with throttle control. I would be off the gas as soon as it starts hopping. You can break an axel or blow a diff if you don't let off.

Sorry I suck at these forums so if you see this submitted under update status, my bad. Anyhow this is a new shock for a 96 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 it fits my 96 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 4x4 perfectly. Little narrower are the bottom than the original but everything else is perfect. I extended it to almost a half in from full extension because I’m pushing 350 pounds.  It rides and hold me well. So if any of y'allRace driven shock. have been looking for one and didn’t want to do the research here it is.

I WANTED TO UPGRADE THE CARBURATOR ON MY 1992 BIG BEAR 350, SO I ORDERED A NEW CARB FROM EBAY.  ACCORDING TO THE WRITE-UP IT WAS A GOOD FIT FOR BIG BEARS FROM 1988 TO 1996.  WHEN I REMOVED MY ORIGINAL CARB I NOTICED THAT IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE NEW CARB MY CARB HAD TWO THROTTLE  CABLES THE NEW CARB ONLY HAD ONE CABLE.  HOW CAN I MAKE THIS CARB WORK ON MY TWO CABLE THROTTLE?

I have a 1988 Quadrunner 250 2wd. My brother in law sold it to my son for $20...had been sitting outside for several years. Got it home and had it running in about 30 mins. Ran it a bit and then went to looking at the carb as it was having trouble idling. Was getting it pretty close, then started losing spark...Also, it wouldn't start up every time...only about 1 in 5 tries. Anyway...now, it has what I can only describe as "intermittent" spark. I can get 1 light spark right when the start button is pressed and sometimes one when it's released...but none while cranking. 🤷‍♂️

I have replaced the spark plug, ignition coil/wire, and traced wires best I can. I noticed a couple frayed wires at the pickup coil where it enters the case. So, now I have the cover off, stator and pickup coil out and trying to test the coil. I do have about 114 ohms resistance for pickup best I can tell. And I can read minute voltage when I drag a magnet across it. Could it still be bad? Can a bad ignition switch/button cause this? (I did have the switch off to oil the choke cable)...pulling rope makes no difference though...any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!!! It's the intermittent part that's throwing me off!
