How fast have you had your ATV?

Recommended Posts

LOL, I have the same feeling about hill climbs anymore. Takes me longer to charge up them.

even at the age of 28 i still have to think more about what i go up. if i get hurt and cant work then i dont have money to pay the bills or go play. but i still find myself going up hills that i shouldnt .

BRAINS kick in !!!LOL at 55 I find it harder to heal from crashes

I know what that's like. Third time I had mine out I went with my son and my son in law on some dunes east of town. Flipped the Cat coming off a dune and broke a rib. Took 3 months to heal.

To answer the question, I got the Cat 500 up to 62 once.

Hey Swampcat, It was Mike Penlands' quad, and he knows the ins and outs of getting speed out of a Can-am. His son Hoyt, (who passed away in 09') had it up to 95 before the race, when they were testing it. Epic racing also had an Outlander that was very modded, and it was supposed to be able to top 110. It had the front diff taken out, some serious long travel shocks, and more than a little "extras".

I am hoping we have good luck this coming November, when we try it again. I am hoping that maybe for 2013 we can run Baja in a Commander. We both would like to give it a try.

Start with the Mavrick and you have a good base with 110hp stock. Good luck and be sure to post pics if you do.

Calling you out on this... What tires, gearing, and RPM were you pulling to make this happen?

20inch box tires, geared down on the rear sprocket and up on the front sprocket. a good friend of mine is a sheriff and clocked me on several runs, 119 was as fast as i could get it.

Going down or up 1 tooth on the front sprocket would be equivalent to going up or down 3 teeth on the rear.

yes IF i ran those ratios of course, i went down like 8 teeth on the rear and up 2 on the front. It's not like 2 strokes are hard to get more revs out of anyway...

the max rpm's for a bone stock banshee is 9000. But it all depends on your modofcations. Banshee's with the power valves like the 421 cheetah's will rev up to 18000 RPM"s

No. A 421 with Cheetah cylinders wont touch 14k let alone 18k... Either way, it's not possible.

i know i ran 119 mph on my old banshee, I SAW THE RADAR GUN WITH MY OWN EYES... rather or not your agree i can care less. I KNOW WHAT I SAW...

as far as the 421 Cheetah cylinders, i have only been told this and have not looked it up for my self.

my bad on the 1800 i meant 10,000 rpms. yea 1800 is NOT gonna happen on a banshee LOL

since you do not seem to understand, iLL TAKE YOU TO SCHOOL...

i ran a 16 tooth front sprocket

i ran a 30 tooth rear sprocket

this gives you a 1.875 ratio with 20'' rear tires

the banshee's Primary Gear is 2.869 this is at 10,000 r.p.m's for a built banshee.

Yamaha banshee Gear ratios are as follows

1.st gear ratio is 2.461

2ed.gear ratio is 1.812

3erd. gear ratios is 1.500

4th. gear ratios is 1.250

5th. gear ratio is 1.045

6th. gear ratio is 0.875

so technically speaking it would run 126 mph, this minus the tire friction and wind speeds produced there for i ran 119 mph and not the full 126.

So I have an 89 Yamaha moto 4 250cc and when I ride it, itll get hot after like 10-15 mins and then will just die and turn off.
It's has new carb rebuild, new air filter, new battery, new spark plug so I don't think it's a crack in the spark plug
      Can anyone help me?

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.
