  1. I am also a Honda man because when you're deep in the woods you want the machine that got you there to get you back. At 76 I don't need the fastest or the most powerful and pretty looking .. I want a machine that does everything I want it to do and doesn't need a warehouse full of spare parts to keep doing it, and I might add one that doesn't eat up my pension funds to keep going .

  2. The older 650 V2 cats were Kawasaki motors, I think they were produced from 2004-2007. My first machine was a 2007 400 which had the Suzuki motor. I beat the snot out of that machine and sold it with 16,000 miles on it to a friend for parts, The upper frame was going and the lower frame was already welded twice. At 14,000 miles I sunk it good in a mud hole and it started burning oil like crazy. Dealer rebuilt the motor, Ran it for another 2,000 miles before selling it. He took the motor and transplanted it into a 2006 400 TRV which they guy who owned it blew up the motor at 800 miles (what he did was not known, but the quad was in pristine condition) The rest of the parts he kept. All 4 axles were good, both diffs, and the 4WD worked perfectly. I could not use these parts because my 2012 has a different assembly so the axles and such are different. They did not have any issues with the suzuki motors, they just switched production to their own motors, known as the H1 and H2 motors. Then for the smaller sized models such as the 366 and Alterra, they are using Kymco motors. I have two of these machines, only issue I had common to both was the fan sensor going bad. So we have three machines total, one as a spare. Mike

  3. @Frank Angerano good negotiation skills! I haven't checked that Mojave topic in some time. I'll look now.

  4. Look at this Mojave, I wanted to buy it for parts for the one I just rebuilt. I needed the air off of it and some nonsense parts as well as maybe taking that cdi for stock. He was firm on $300. I told him $100 bucks to take it away. He told me I was crazy. I said nobody is going to take it for that price! It’s buried in weeds and missing a lot of stuff. So I said $150. He said nope so I walked away. He has messaged me 10 times now for $150 he said he has to get it out of his yard. The last message he sent was $100 will be fine. Unfortunately I made my own air filter set up and no longer need the parts. Some people think that they have gold!!! @Ajmboy did you check out that post on the Mojave?

  5. @Dra O maybe a silly question and I really don't know the answer but when looking at the parts diagram, I noticed two version of the fuel petcock for your YMM atv. Did you buy the correct one?

  6. Did the bearing go bad or the actual hub broke? Check http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/2005-polaris-predator-500-a05gj50aa-ab-ac-front-hub-and-front-wheel-a05gj50aa-ab-ac-assembly.html I believe this is the hub, you may be able to save a little on Amazon: Here's used one from ebay:

  8. Def a good idea but last year I mentioned the hunting thing and didn’t get a big response so I let it be. Some people don’t like the hunting and killing was what I was thinking. But maybe this year!

  10. Welcome to Quadcrazy @Mo Salem is it just the hub that broken ? It pretty simple and just a matter of pulling the caliper off and the main nut (castle nut) and the cotter pin. Heres a video on YouTube Hope this helps.

  13. The three ports on the carb are as follows: one port on the side should be marked IN that should clearly be marked. The other one on the opposite side will not be marked. That’s the one that goes to the carburetor fuel inlet. The third one on the back of the pump is the vacuum line that activates the pump. That line also goes to the carburetor. It’s on the opposite side of the fuel connection on the carburetor. What happens is when you crank the engine the vacuum created in the carburetor moves the diaphragm in the pump. The vacuum that’s created is a pulsing vacuum it sucks in and the internal spring pushed it back out when there’s a break in the vacuum pulse. If that vacuum line going to the carburetor is cracked or has a leak it’s not going to pump. If the carburetor is dirty and that internal port for the vacuum line is blocked it’s not going to work. So if you have any doubts about the carburetor being cleaned then get after it and take it apart. I posted a topic on carburetor cleaning, take a peek at it I’m sure it will help you along if you can’t find the post let me know. Make sure your pump is not installed upside down and the lines are reversed. Lastly is sometimes the pump has to be primed. Connect up the fuel pump to the petcock but not to the carburetor. Put a clean long hose on the pump and lightly suck in on that hose a few times and see if you get fuel out of the outlet hose that goes to the carburetor. As far as the petcock goes there is a plate on the inside that directs the fuel so make sure that’s installed correctly if you took it apart or just put a new one in right out of the box. Battery could have a dead dead cell and won’t hold a charge. Replace it especially if you get this fuel line thing corrected you don't want to go into the winter with a bad battery. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  14. just got back home another great day of riding trails! was a little more water on the trails this time, but we stayed drier...thanks to going slow through them. road new trails, and no incidents. Got to see someone get pulled over on our way up there, cause they did not slow down for road construction....I can only imagine the price of that ticket. here they do twice the fines for messing up in construction zones. I do not know when we will get up again,we need to get ready for bow season, and then after that clean garage out to make room to park our daily drivers in there during the winter months. but I do know we will be going down some creeks with them when the ice freezes..that will be a new challenge for the wife. HOPE THAT OTHERS ARE OUT THERE RIDING,AND MAKING GREAT MEMORIES LIKE WE ARE!!

  15. Pressure washer will take all of that off 100%. I had a Polaris Phoenix that was covered in paint. Pressure washer took it all off. Great find, be sure to post some some pics.

  16. Well yesterday went shopping, found this 02 Honda, pretty dirty but in perfect working order except for rear brakes and maybe some brake cable and tlc needed. Starts right up and runs pretty good. Ended trading for a .22 that I paid nothing for and a C-note.

  17. Got the rest of the bike up in the air finally! Everything is unbolted and ready to pull the engine off. Love this new lift I picked up, gets the bike way up and easy to work on. Going to be at a stand still now until the parts and paint come in! 😡

  18. Ah, reread the ad I bought it from, 1998. Carb is missing and it wont shift to neutral/reverse but that's probably not a deal breaker. $200 is cheap enough to put some man hours in.

  19. I love bringing them back from the dead too...Just bought a 93 Big Bear that's mostly intact, think it's all there in boxes and parts. Bought it for nothing so this one should be fun.

  20. Got the carb broken down and rebuilt. It all seemed in tact and usable. The jets were a little scared up from what appears to be marks from using the wrong screwdrivers on them. I filed the scuff marks down and polished as best possible. If there are any performance issues I will swap them out with direct replacements. Engine is finally clean and ready to come off of the frame. I ordered a bunch of parts that are in route. Oem Kawasaki green paint for the frame and a few other goodies for the engine and sole cosmetic stuff. Overall it looks like I will be into this thing for about $700 to $750 bucks If I don’t need anything more, that’s including the quad itself and not my labor of course. So not bad so far but that’s all speculation for now until this thing fires up and runs. But honestly I absolutely love tearing these older machines apart that have been sitting around and bringing them back to life! Little by little and more to come stay tuned!

  21. So here’s some updates. After a few months I finally got around to getting this thing into my garage. I was in the middle of giving my garage a little makeover and needed some time to make some room, clean up and throw some old sh** away. The bike is in great shape just super dirty and in need of a what I like to equate it as a colonoscopy! Lol. New parts are ordered and on the way. Clutch, chain, plugs, paint and a new bulb for the headlight. I found that the carburetor has 100% been opened up and tampered with. I can’t read the jetting so I’m assuming they are the oem stock jets 🙏🏻 However the air fuel mixture screw was set at 2-3/4 turns out. The specifications call for 1-3/4 so I guess we will have to see after it’s all back together. I’m going to set it at the spec and go from there. The machine has an aftermarket exhaust and I think that’s it for upgrades. I’m not opening the head up to see the cams or anything else because it seems to be in time as far as I can see and compression is good with a smooth turnover and the head bolts as well as all other engine bolts and nuts don’t appear to have any wrenching marks on them so I’m guessing it’s all stock. More to come soon!

  22. Started tearing it apart, pulled the carb to rebuild, removed exhaust, battery, fenders etc. cleaned it up pretty good, did some painting, reinstalled exhaust, carb, other accessories and got it to fire up. Runs pretty good. Ordered me a seat cover, battery and front tires and a petcock. few more pics after. Will post finished pics when done. Next will be the Bayou 220 Az
