1997 Kawasaki Bayou 300 2x4 (klf300b) Runs Bad
JacobSlabach replied to JacobSlabach's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
ok guys so I'm running into issue after issue on this thing... yesterday i ran out and started working on the tick.. took the exhaust valve rocker out (and rocker axle) and it looks fine.. put it all back together ( had the cam sprocket off and the chain tensioner because of course it sprung when I lowered the cam sprocket...). When I went to check the timing, I couldn't find that one cycle where the rockers where tight on the valves... every single time I got around to tdc an in time, the rockers where very lose (a lot of clearance). I dont know what happened but the rockers are consistently too loose at every tdc. the lock nuts over the valves are tight so that didnt move.. should i just crank hem down to spec and see what happens? What I'm worried about it bending a valve because its pushed down too far. Is there a way to check and make sure the valves are clearing the piston before startup? I am losing money right and left on this bike so a mistake now is out of the question. -

yeaaa its easy to just jump at it and forget to film... (i wouldnt know 😎) -
everything is still stock on the bike... not even a winch or anything.. I think someone just left the key on with the headlight, because when I got there and turned it on, the headlight came on.

and about the shifting issue... have you adjusted the clutch? I adjusted mine out and it started slipping under load untill I adjusted it back in. best way to learn how to do that is to go to 👇 , enter you model, and look at the owner's (not service- you spend a week looking for it) manual and and you should find directions to adjusting the clutch My Kawasaki | Save Favorite Vehicle Info, Quick Links, Dealer & More https://www.kawasaki.com/myaccount/signin -

yea I was pretty sure those in the picture weren't 1000cc... I think if he wants to really compare apples to apples, he needs to get a 1000cc turbo or turbo s and see how that works for him..... its not fair to compare two brands when your not looking at the same size engine -

just remember not to jump it or you'll be buying new front a arms- they bend SUPER easy on those sxs not a fan of the wildcats- Polaris' turbos are my fav among sxs...maybe a X3 but the turbo s is king in my opinion and if you go out west, they are famous for not having any power in high altitudes -
Theres a horse farm I work/worked at and they have a Rubicon (500cc) think its a 04. Its been having starting issues. First time it wouldnt start, the owner said it had a new battery in it (this is about a year ago I guess..). I replaced the solenoid and then the starter. the battery was dead so I jumped it and then it started fine after the battery charged. about a month later, same problem. I swapped the solenoid back out with the old one(still had it)- nothing. the owner had another battery she said was good, swapped that out and it fired up. Now, today, same problem again... owner says the starter was sluggish and then the battery went dead. Went out and jumped it again and it ran fine (its a carburated atv so its not fond of under freezing temperatures...). the stater is working cause when I got there, the battery had 7-9v on it (multimeter said it was rising and falling (with the key on)). I jumped it off our van and rode it around for say 5-10mins. when I shut it off again, battery is reading 14v with key off and 13v with it on. thats as far as I've gotten.. I asked the owner to let me know if anything else happened later on.. What I'm wondering is if its just the battery, or maybe is the regulator rectifier not working letting the battery be overcharged cause it to die? And then again, the bike could have sat with the key and headlight on overnight for all I know..
