battery was warm. I took it apart and as I was taking it apart, I saw a handy notice sticker that said dont let water get into the flywheel box (or something like that) well when I was in AL, my friend and I were going to pull the flywheel to replace the stater. didnt reseal the cover or tighten the flywheel nut when put back on. yesterday, I took the cover off and found an inch of ice in the bottom of the chamber- also the flywheel nut wasn't tightened and had come off (we were doing most of the work on the quad in AL at 3 in the morning😎). So the water got into the recoil- locked up that spring, rusted the flywheel, locked up the bendix... (I'm kinda glad this happened tho cause I can only imagine what might happen if the flywheel had come off.........😨) waiting for warmer weather to make sure all moisture gets out and then gonna spray everything down with WD-40/lithium grease and then seal the cover with gasket material... Hoping that and the bushings come in in time so I can get the bike up and running before the weekend

Also, just in general what I've found with products is if they are put together by the dealer, sometimes some of the bolts are not torqued down correctly. I would give the bike a good look over as if it was used and I was looking to buy it (I know you already bought it, but its never too late, better safe than sorry- If someone left a lug loose or some other important bolt, it would be a bummer to be out riding at 40+mph and have a wheel come off or apart..)

I would definitely try to find a way to get that drain plug out. As for starting, I would check compression, and try to get the specs on the carb adjustment to start there. Make sure you have fuel, make sure your sp is good. have fun.🤘

there are no hoses hooked to the fuel pump. its a vacuum pump so its completely disconnected. The noise was coming from the starter (it wouldnt turn, but wined). I think the bendix just broke lose and then the starter turned freely. maybe the bendix got jammed- I wouldnt know until I open it up.

Cant be that tho because I bypassed the fuel pump.

go aftermarket. cheap, but reliable, although there are more lemons.. but still worth it.

yeah.. I'm seeing ya. I just dont see many good deals out there on CL.. Btw, having a starting issue on the sportsman today- three times I turned the key, I heard a click and then a wine, then the starter fired up, but the engine didnt turn. Thinking its a bendix...

Take care of it and it'll last you forever!😎🤘 I would have paid the extra $$$ and gone with the camo 700 sitting right beside it tho btw look at that first pic..... she's missing a rear lug!!! might want to check the others make sure they're tight...

yeah thats another hiccup- I cant drive and have to wait for my dad to take me to see these bikes. usually on weekends. I kinda have to find a overpriced bike and talk the guy down... Looking at a 99 sportsman 335 that doesnt idle and needs a starter... he wants $1600... the bike is worth in very good cond $1200... Its tires are also bald so I'd want to replace those... I'm thinking if I could talk him down to $800...? maybe I could get the bike looking nice and resale for at least $1200

yep. I'm hoping to one day flip my way up to getting a sportsman 850 or 1000 in well kept cond... and settling with that... would still be interested in continuing to flip bikes tho!!

yup. @Frank Angerano, you get what you pay for.... haha @Ajmboy I already bought a new carb off amazon for $10. I think its a spark issue rn cause the bike wont fire period. turns over fine

oh ok. I havnt noticed any except on the new axle I put in the front.

grease nipples? (need enlightening there haha) Ig I will pull everything off (to replace the bushings), and then I will check the rear axles and see if one is noticeably slipping. If I peg the throttle from a stop, both back tires spin, so I know it isnt too bad yet... haha I said 'replace' the bushings- cant replace them if there arnt any there. So I should say 'add' bushings. and the reared chatter I was hearing could have been a-arms banging around... I'm just not gonna order a axle till I know one is bad. I already made that mistake with the stater- now I have a $100 stater in my shop and the bike doesnt need one. I guess I might use it one day....

picked up this pos bike for $80 not running. took it home, cleaned the carb and bypassed the fuse- ran great (other than the rev limiter- those things are so stupid) Then one day out of the blue it starts flooding on cold startup and wont idle cold, but idles to fast warm. (too fast being about half throttle speed heh). I tried a new carb ($10) and new sp. new carb wouldnt make it run except on choke and then it was gushing white smoke. I had better things to do with my time so I parked it in a shed and used it for a work bench for a while... this last weekend, I wanted to take it along with the sportman to a mens retreat to let the younger boys have some fun on it-- took about 30mins to pull all the crap I had accumulated on it and then rolled it down to my workshop, put the old carb back on after adjusting the needle clip up two notches (leaner) and threw it back on the bike. Will turn over, but no fire. I didnt have time to check sp that day but just wanted some incite on what could be wrong with this quad (if it even qualifies as being called that)

not me. still 15. those kodiaks are among my top fav utility atvs!

the 220 I'm working on always has trouble starting even after its been running a while... it just struggles to get that first turn-over and then its good. the owner didnt want it replaced, so itll just have to be that way, but probably the same issue.. thanks!

I dont know... I'm really at the end of my budget on this bike- I mean I really want to, but nada guide says its only worth 2000 and I have 1900 in it as for grease, what kind do you use? I was using I spray on WD-40+lithium grease for grease and then just plain WD-40 for stuck or rusty stuff....

just wondering @Ajmboy, do you do much with polaris, and if so, how do you like/dislike each brand of bike? (the utility model ex: Sportman or magnum vs grizzly or kodiak)

try checking your idle speed- that could cause grinding when shifting into high.
