  1. Okay so here's the deal I really need some help I got the quad from my buddy he had the head redone because of smoke it was either two things rings or valves so all that looks good I got the exhaust valve and intake valve to spec with the rocker arms then I had made sure cam was in TDC it lined up in spec then I was trying to start it up for the first day it started but ran like s*** then I had the next day recharge the battery and tried to start it again still run like s*** but I was just curious if it ran so I was thinking it was taking too long to start up so I clean carburetor today and retried to start it up and the only electrical part that was disconnected was the ground to the reverse gear controller so that I could take off the throttle then I pulled the spark plug out to check to see if I had spark the last 2 days I had spark cuz I pulled the spark plug out and seen it but today when I went to clean the carburetor out I accidentally left the battery on on all night and now I have no spark at all I pulled off the spark plug boot the screw thang and put my hand on the spark plug wire as I turned it over with the starter by the way the starter runs great now but zero electricity I'm just wondering how do I test my coil what is the resistance/ohm's it needs to be inspect I can't find it nowhere and how do I eliminate the fact if it's the stator somebody says something about a CDI and I seen a form saying if I unplug the voltage regulator your spark plug might spark again but I clean most of the connections I still have no spark
  2. IMG_4272.MOV Originally had my griz600 stop running and then wouldn’t start ! After testing all coils , valve lash , compression (115psi) and all tested ok I bought a used cdi . After cdi install it still wouldn’t start (no spark) ! So even though the stator , pulse/trigger and charge coils check within good range I decided to switch the stator etc ! It started but It is very unresponsive on throttle and acts like it is running in 2 Different spark timing ! With slight throttle it will take off good but instantly go into a very different running mode with no power like timing very retarded but it will switch back to running good for short period then bad again ! Since I replaced the stator and it started I then decided to install the cdi I replaced and it did the same thing ! Also I noticed the Used cdi I Took off had a capacitor that had swelled and extruded from the back of the cdi . I had always heard and I believed that when these CDIs go bad they machine will quit and will not run . Is that true ? I also checked the cam/valve timing and its ok ! Checked with timing light and it does fluctuate on idle ! I am thinking I have 2 bad CDIs . I also switched the trigger Coil wires and would not start then . Man , this thing ran good before and I am confused ! Video below may help ! IMG_4272.MOV
  3. 1998 Grizzly600 ! Slowly died then wouldn’t start ! All coils check good ohms ! Checked ac voltage from source coil get OL ! Is the source coil bad ?
  4. I have a 08 TGB Outback 425 had it running yesterday went back to start it later didn't start checked and no spark went over all wires and connections can't find problem the atv has all good fuses need help.
  5. Got two 3 wheelers. One a 85; 250es the other around 83 (not sure the year) 200es. Neither of them are getting any fire. The manual says to test across the two terminal going into the coil to measure the resistance. I checked and both read 0.0. No resistance. The 200 came with two other coils which Ive never used. Tested them and got 0.0. Ordered one off Ebay for the 250. Came from a cycle shop. High tension wire doesn't look to good. Tested its terminal and it reads 0.0. I also have a 400 Kawasaki 4 wheeler that ran when parked (water cooled with a cracked head or sleeve. So it hasn't been used in awhile) I tested its coil. Got 0.0. Im pretty sure that coil is good. I then tested a round can coil on my old tractor just for fun. It did show some resistance. So where do I go from here? I need to find out if that coil from Ebay is bad so I can send it back. The high tension wire on it is just about enough to make me want to send it back any way. Any help on how to test these coils would be appreciated. Then I could move onto the other parts of the firing system.
  6. Does the ignition coil on a polaris sportsman 200 have to have a 12volt input in order to work proberly? Thanks, norider
  7. I have a polaris sportsman 500 year 2000. While I was running it the manual starter recoil spring broke with a loud bang. After this happened, I cannot get it started. I replace the whole part with the new spring enclosed and the only noticeable damage seemed to be the pulse coil bracket was bent away from the fly wheel. I bent it back and reguaged it. But it still will not start and I have no spark. Could the pulse coil have been damaged? If so, is there a way to check if the pulser is damaged? Has anyone had this happen?   8. I'm new to working on atvs. And I just bought this atv not running. I replaced the stator, coil, and I have two cdi's. It sparked once and now won't spark at all it won't even spark if I turn the key off then back on. I'm completely baffled I'm not sure about what to do next or what it could be. It's a 87 warrior. The parking break has been deleted and I tried bypassing the the clutch switch still nothing. Also my neutral loght stays on would this have something to do with it?anything leading me in the right direction would be greatly appriciated! Thanks in advanced!
  9. Can someone tell me the correct way to test the stator coil in my 84 honda 200es? I disconnected the wiring at the 6 pin plug, and using an ohm meter tested the red/blk wire to grnd. I didnt get any resistance. Am I doing this right? Thanks Bruce
  10. My stock coil has a wire on it that goes to this little black box that I'm assuming is the CID box. When looking on EBAY for a new replacement coil I see that they don't have the extra wire. (other than not having the wire they are the same) They advertise them for years 85-. Different application? They either have the years posted wrong or they are bypassing that box. Can someone please educate me:) Thank You Rick [email protected]
  11. Refer to my earlier post ***UP-UP-UP DATE on '94 KODIAK Won't start when Engine is Cool. It will now start cold with the Pull Rope. Could it be a dirty or bad gap on the pulse coil? As you can see by my earlier post, the dealer and I have tried everything.
