What do you use to clean your ATV?

Recommended Posts

I would like to hear who uses what to clean there ATV’S.
I’ve always been a fan of simple green and it’s always worked well but with this new property and the crazy black mud and clay that’s there  I have to say the simple green is not cutting it.

So from cleaning  right after a ride to cleaning them when you find one in a barn I would like to hear what everyone does and what your recommendations.
I’m looking to try something new.

Bought a electric 1800psi pressure washer at Lowe's for other projects for around $100...but works great on the ATV caked in mud..spray Simple Green on beforehand and pressure wash off mud and grime.

I bought one from lowes also during some sort of sale for $89.  Works great.

Hey @Ajmboy and @06kfx440 I’m thinking of picking up a small pressure washer like that.  Quick easy set up ? I love my gas washer but I need quick and easy for this type of stuff. So worth it and easy set up ?

Yes very easy. If you can wait a few weeks, I’m sure there will be some good Black Friday deals.

First off...you guys are doing it all wrong!

You need to let the Wife do it,and You sit back snap a few pics, and drink some Beers!

just kidding...I helped while not taking pictures

we have some thing we mix the simple green in and it sprays it on the machines, then we tack a rag and wash it in,then spray it off,lot easier than having it in a bottle and having to squeeze the trigger so much.

Used to use Purple Power. Lately I think Super Clean works a little better. I spray it on and hose it off with a pressure washer. Garden hose will be ok, but pressure washer works that much better. Sometimes I just have to bust out the wash mitt on my plastics though and have at her like washing a car.

After years of using various fancy cleaning products, I use a power washer and some truck wash. The truck wash just seems to melt the mud - I've no idea what's in it. Doesn't seem to hurt the plastics or seals.

I get mine in 10L drums at the local auto parts store but you could probably get it at truck stops too.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?

having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.
not sure where to look next

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????
