How did you get into Quads?

Started when I was a kid. We had a sand pit, (they used to haul sand/dirt from there as a business) behind our house. My friends and I used to go back there and ride our bikes. Not a whole lot to do there on a bmx bike, but we used to watch all the people riding their 3 wheelers, dirt bikes, and occasional Odyssey. We always dreamed of owning our own one day. To kick things off my friend got ahold of an old rear engine lawnmower which we quickly converted to off road use. New pulleys, belt, and ditched the deck. Eventually we got some used atv tires for the rear. Fastest we got clocked was something like 35mph. He then got a Honda ATC200X. Well, I really had started asking around at that point. I had a job (I was 14) and had a little bit of money. A coworker told me he had an old atv in his yard I could have! Turns out it was a Suzuki LT125 with 4 flat tires, busted pull rope, and no spark plug. 2 tires got tubes, got a new plug, and that's where I learned the value of getting actual pull start rope instead of regular rope from the hardware store. Pay the money and do it right. It was a great starter atv, but I always lusted after the atc's, finally getting my own ATC200S.

From there it would lead to more three wheelers from Honda and Kawasaki, dirt bikes, then back to atv's. Currently I have one of each (atv, atc, dirt bike) in my stable.

When I was 4 years old (1993), my dad was given an LT50 as a substitute for money for some work that he did for somebody. That was my first quad. I've lost count of how many I've had since, but I've had at least one from every manufacturer and (as far as I can tell) one of every model build since 2004 at some point.

As a kid in the early 90s learned to drive my grandmother's Suzi 250 Quad splitting and stacking firewood. Had an old Honda in my teens to 20s, AC in my 30s, and now ordered my first Polaris. Been drooling over the them most of my life, from the 6x6 models to the Highlifters. Made in America to boot, I'm hoping this sucker will last me 20+ years. Sold the AC to order tracks.... missing fall riding but pretty excited to be on the ice this winter.... hopefully. 20210926_125601.jpg

I grew up on a pseudo farm (22 acres).  Started with dirt bikes (used 84 Honda xr100.) I read dirt wheels magazine and would fantisize about quads.  I  was able to save up enough from bucking hay in the summer to buy a 230 quad sport around middle school age.  I really liked that quad.  Shortly after high school I drove to Oregon and bought my first brand new quad (grizzly 600).  My parents had a cabin up in remote British Colombia and they bought two sportsman 500's that we'd ride on endless logging roads and trails up there.  The biggest concern was getting lost.  At some point I sold the grizzly and a few years later I bought my current 2011 sportsman 550.  I've recently got back into dirt bikes, and I ride with my 14 yr old son because he's into bikes.  The older I get, the more I feel like quads are looking better.

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

Bucking started about a month ago and works ok after 1/2 hour warmup.  Today while working on it i discovered that if i put the ignition switch in LIGHT position it runs fine right from the start.
I'm stumped!  Any idea why this could be?

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.
