Thank you for welcoming this newbie to the forum. My neighbors and I take down the fence and love to see the small children race in the yards and learn to respect each other. We have enjoyed having ATVs for us "Big Kids" and the grand kids.

Looking for a little help with diagnosing a noise on my 2001 Kodiak 400 YFM. It sounds like a stack cam chain. I checked the Tensioner and it appeared to be ok, but fully extended when I removed it for inspection. I opened the cam cover and the tensioner (aft) seems ok, chain seem tight. I also noticed that the pull starter feels very hard to pull. It seem like it might be turning over the starter as if it was still engaged. When it is started by the starter it makes a loud clang right before it starts. I read about the recoil clutch. Not sure if that might be the noise. The ATV is new to me. My neighbor has run it for the last year making the noise. Any help is greatly appreciated....Thanks..from tampa....

Hello all,

I've been riding and racing quads for many years, just riding for the last few. Time has paid it's toll on me. :) I have made many riding friends over the years and plan to make more.

Some of our favorite spots to ride are Wayne National Forest, Silver Lake Dunes, and Hatfield McCoy.

Hope to see some of you out on the trail this year.

Hey everybody. I'm looking to get into quads. I had a trx125 when I was younger and plan on buying something when I get home from this deployment. I want to get into some racing but just for fun. Most ride light trails and dunes though. Any thoughts on where I should start? I have about 100 hours of research already so I'm pretty sure I'm going with a yfz but I'm open to ideas if you have some to share. Thanks.

Hi All-

New to the site, not the hobby! My name is Trevor but my friends call me Rabbit. I just picked up a 1985 Honda ATC 200s. Usually the first thing I do when I get a new toy is join a forum so I can learn a little more about the machine. I mostly enjoy motorcycles, but I wanted something I could tool around the property on. Found this little peach for cheap so here I am. Im from Wisconsin and live in Colorado. Looking forward to playing in the snow if we ever get some! When summer arrives hopefully riding some trail. Just a little about me...

Erm, I'm new? Hello... British...

I bought a 50cc for my little girl for Christmas, second hand. No brakes (well no pressure on the cable from the drum so assume no shoes or mechanism) and was looking for some information on it and how I could make it a little mo girly and appealing for her?! So now I'm here!

Howdy!

Sam.

Hi SamboRambo, Don't know much about making it girley. but I do have an idea on the throttle. Might try a limiter of some sort. That's what I should have done with my first one. I ended up on top of a dog house. Good luck,

Garry

Cheers Gary, luckily it's already got a limiter on, I've degreased it all today and hosed it down. Also replaced part of the wiring loom that had burnt out. Wheels need a clean up and some rust grinding off, get my dad to make up some decals for it. I've got the brake housing off it but I can't get the drum off it! Looking for some kinda manual or YouTube video on how to do it! Thought I'd screwed it at one point with the wiring but it all came together! Just gotta figure out why it's not kicking out any power to the light next!

Very common quad but seems very difficult to get servicing manual!!!

Greetings to all.  New to the forum, but not to ATVing.  I started when they only had 3 wheels!  Getting back into riding.  Polaris 850.  Too many bells and whistles, but what do you do.  Scouting out places to ride legally now.

      Background,
This winter (Dec.) I was plowing and everything just died, just quit.  No lights, no pull start, No nothing.  I've had this problem before and I changed the voltage reg and it ran fine for over a year. Then this.  So I changed it again, thinking this was the same problem.  Tried to start it and a small pin hole in the CDI appeared with electrical smoke.
Months go by and I finally decide to just replace parts (I'm Horrible at electrical issues).  I changed the stator, new CDI, new Voltage reg, new starter solenoid, tested the starter (prefect), charged the battery.
Went to start it and the solenoid rapidly clicked.  All the dash lights on, headlights work.  Pull stared it and it fired right up no issues.  Looked into the rapidly clicking starter solenoid and it was not enough juice in the battery.  Took the battery completely out and hooked up a jump box to it turned the key, light on, everything looks good.  Pushed the starter button and it fired right up ran great.  Turned it off to test it again, Turned the key and nothing.  No dash lights nothing.  Took the jump box off and pulled started it.  Started it right up.  Re-hooked the jump box, still nothing.
      Any Ideas?

Hi all! I'm a new member from northern Saskatchewan. I plan on buying a new ATV and do some exploring in the Precambrian Shield/Boreal Forest this coming Spring.
I hope to learn as much as I can on here before I make a purchase.
      Thanks.
