  1. If the batteries have been discharged to that point they are scrap. Even if you could trick them into taking a charge ( the old ferro/mechanical chargers would charge those batteries) they will never have any decent capacity , and in fact are very likely to develop shorted cells due to the plates shedding sulphates.
  2. If the manufacturers are selling them with a warranty for the older machines , I would be pretty sure the ATV charging system is fine for the lithium batteries.. My own machine is 30 years old , and no I have not put a lithium battery in it. The weight difference is negligible over an AGM battery. The biggest advantage lithium batteries have over the Flooded batteries and the AGM ones is they can be left idle without needing to be on a maintainer for several months. Do that with a lead/acid battery and it's toast. However on newer machines that draw a trickle of current for the CPU in their electronics the lithium batteries need to be disconnected just as the lead/acid ones do to prevent over discharge. If they get them providing higher capacity in the same size cases as the AGMs and bring the prices down closer to the AGMs, I would get one just for the fact they don't need to sit on a maintainer when the ATV won't be run for an extended period. .Until then I'll stick to the AGMs myself.
  3. That got me to do a search on " Lithium battery for ATV" and found that "Yes, there are several manufacturers offering them" Here's one https://dakotalithium.com/product-category/12v-lithium-batteries/ There are several more popped up on the search, but this one had the most polished website.
  4. The only thing that will draw any appreciable power is the electric blanket. A quick search on them showed me ones that ran from a meager 4w to 60w. A 60w one would draw about 5 amps. That might be close to the output of some of the smaller quad's stators. Your stereo would likely draw between 1 amp at normal volume and maybe 2 amps cranked up. It would have to be a fairly powerful one to draw 5 amps at ridiculous volume settings. a 4w CB might draw about 2 amps at max. A legal output of 4w am or 12w SSB would only require about 0.3A at 100 % efficiency, so giving it 1 amp to power the transmitter should be more than enough. Stereo cranked, electric blanket on and transmitting on the CB all together would likely max out an older small quad's stator. Newer quad's generally have more output than the older ones . I've seen quotes of up to 35 amps for some of them . Most forums mention 15 to 25 amp output on ATV stators, so I can only guess that older small quads would likely have outputs of 5 to 10 amps and newer ones between 15 and 35 amps. At 10 amps output a stator would be delivering about 140 W to the system. Even at 5 amps there is 60 watts available to power everything and charge the battery. You really don't need a monster battery to deliver power for even the most heavily accessorized quads when the motor is running .
  5. The thing is , a rig can be loaded with accessories-- stereos, lights, and whatever other accessory you can think of but they are not all running at the same time. A stereo radio draws very little current. Older high powered incandescent lights drew a lot of current, but new LED ones draw very little for the same output. For example a 100W incandescent lamp will pull nearly 10 amps while the same light output from a LED light will only pull about 1 amp or a little less. Rigs like my HAM radio HF transmitter draw up to 20 amps on transmit but that is only when key down. Receiving it draws no more than a music stereo. Even small ATV batteries easily regain the current used on transmit when the engine is running and the radio is in receive mode. The only time a vehicle needs a bigger alternator is when it is running high powered accessories constantly . Turn a 1000w stereo amp on and run it full blast or run a winch on your 4x4 for long periods and you need a bigger alternator and battery to power them, but listen to a normal radio or run an auxiliary LED light or hand warmers and the stock setup should handle it easily. It doesn't matter how big a battery you have, if the alternator can't put out enough current to recharge it while all the accessories are running at the same time. For normal operation and accessories usually found on an ATV, the stock battery is all that's needed.
  6. OK. Hopefully it's something a quick and simple fix.
  7. I'd start with the main fuse between the battery and the main solenoid; then the battery as suggested. If the fuse is blown, then look for a short or bare wire before replacing the fuse. Once you have 10 posts you can go to the download section of the forum to get the service manual with a wiring diagram for that quad. Batteries can show good or charged but have a defective cell or be so badly sulphated they have no capacity left.
  8. The other box is likely the voltage regulator. I don't know how long they did it . but on my 1991 Fourtrax 300 and other models around the late '80's / early '90's the serial is stamped into the frame cross tube low on the front end. The stampings aren't very deep and are easily obscured by rust or paint.
  9. Since I am not familiar with the Timberwolf , I can only guess at a possibility from your description. My best guess is the neutral switch or the mechanism that activates it is either loose or broken so that it is out of position. It may be a simple adjustment and tightening required. Open it up and have a look. Starting in gear is unsafe, especially for a young rider.
  10. Those bits might be from the previous owner having to do a rebuild and not getting all the debris from whatever failed removed. I can't see the circlip being from a wrist pin retainer. You'd most likely have some pretty severe cylinder scoring and other crankcase debris if it was. If it runs fine and no "funny" noises or other debris, I wouldn't worry about it.
  11. If your ATV is a newer one with electronic ignition that will also be drawing a tiny but constant current. Add that to the clock, stereo and any other accessory that must maintain memory settings and the draw on the battery can be significant over a week or more. I have to keep a maintainer on my Sierra because it sits idle for long periods , otherwise the battery goes flat from all those little draws adding up. As Mike mentioned , the alternator in ATVs is minimal so run time to fully charge a large battery could be significant. It doesn't take long storing a lead / acid battery at less than full charge for sulphate to slowly build up and significantly reduce battery capacity. More to consider......If you have a side by side you might find room for a big battery, but not so easy on smaller rigs. Then you gotta consider the battery itself. Do you really want a flooded battery in your ATV ? Most get some pretty significant jostling and way off camber use . Acid leaking out of a flooded batter can wreck havoc, and large SLA batteries can be $$$$$. Unless maintaining memory in accessories and the clock is a must to you, I would suggest instead of trying to shoehorn a bigger battery in ,just install a disconnect switch to shut down all power when the ATV will e parked for a few days or more. Resetting the clock if it's important doesn't take long . A CB or HAM radio gear doesn't draw any more power receiving than any other broadcast radio. They only draw more while key down transmitting, so adding one to your accessories isn't going to affect your battery load to any degree. Just my rambling thoughts on adding a bigger battery .. It can be boiled down to simply saying " It isn't worth the trouble and expense".
  12. You can get an in line spark tester that will tell you if you're getting spark when cranking over. Here is one carried by Harbor Freight https://www.harborfreight.com/in-line-spark-checker-63590.html There are several others at various price points available mail order or in store at most auto and RV parts stores.
  13. Best I could give from a distance let te forum know when you solve the problem so others with a similar one can get an idea where to look for the possible cause. Good luck.I hope I helped.
  14. It might be a weak spark problem on a cold engine. Cold engines require more power to turn over and start. The extra draw on the starter leaves a little less voltage for the spark. Is the spark plug fairly new and clean, gap on specs? Battery in good shape and all connections clean and tight so it can deliver full power?. Corrosion on the terminals can set up a resistance that causes voltage and current to drop under starting loads.
  15. "Spins on starter". Does the motor turn over on the starter or does the starter just spin without turning over the motor? If the starter just spins without turning over the motor there is something wrong with the one way clutch between te starter motor and the motor. If the motor turns over without starting then look for a faulty relay or broken wire between the relay or other connection in the ignition circuit. Usually if it is the neutral safety switch the starter will not spin. If the motor starts fine using the pull start you know the ignition is good. There should be a wiring diagram in the download section of the forum to help you trace out the circuits.
  16. This is a lot late for the earlier posters with huge lots to mow. Has anyone with fields to mow of about 2 acres or more thought of renting/ leasing the fields to a farmer for hay cropping? Here in B.C. if a farmer who makes his main income from farming rents/leases farm fields for any farm purpose the land owner is able to claim farm rate taxes on the rented lands. It makes a considerable difference on the taxes we pay. I rented 2 1/2 acres of my 3 acre property to the neighbour farmer. He cropped the field for hay, I got $600 yearly for the land use plus saved nearly half on my property taxes. Something worth looking into if your state or province has a similar program.
  17. Have fun in your fantasy land fellas. The world is wrong. Only the extreme right has all the answers. tRump is not a narcissist that only cares about himself. His administration is not full of incompetent toadies and none of them from tRump down have never done anything illegal or unethical. The COVID deaths in the US have not been compounded by tRump's incompetence and denials from the start. Someday reality is going to hit home and it's going to hurt.
  18. I'll leave it to you tRump lovers to figure that out for yourselves. I'll give you a hint from history. Study Hitlers rise to power in te 1930's and notice the parallels to tRump's four years. Nothing I can point out to you from Canada will do anything to swing you away from the garbage the far right and extreme right has been feeding you; and it's obvious you don't follow mainstream news feeds.
  19. The pdf you included was an article from The Economist. In my searches looking for this so called 100,000 votes all for Biden , I only found articles that said there were 100,000 mail ins yet to count. I kinda think one of your conspiracy theorists twisted that to claim all were counted and for Biden rather than there were 100K left to be counted. Feel free to post an article from mainstream to show one polling stationreported 100k votes and all for Biden.
  20. How do you get 100,000 votes all for Biden from a county that voted 68% Biden 30% Trump? Trump should at least get 1 vote. YouGov poll of 1500 voters said 25% of conservatives were planning to vote by mail. Page 29 https://docs.cdn.yougov.com/1qb5j6pdqd/econTabReport.pdf Isn't it interesting that only the Economist, a UK based paper group is making that claim. Have fun with your conspiracy theories. No mainstream media are making that claim and state courts are tossing out tRump's suits claiming voter fraud without ANY supporting evidence. I have found nothing from legitimate Michigan sources making that claim or even from mainstream Republicans.
  21. I guess we'll see who is right and who is in fantasy land soon. I can guarantee I'm not the one who would be needing tissues if somehow tRump prevails. As I mentioned earlier the mailed in ballots were more for Bide than tRump simply because the Dems urged mail voting with the pandemic in mind and your orange god urged in person voting to his cult. In person counted first and mail in later and because of the volume it took days. Mail in voting in the US or here and other democracies at use it has never been shown to have any significant illegal voting and none of it affecting the outcome. I strongly doubt there will be any found beyond the normal errors found in any mail in campaign. All the illegal activity is only in the minds of the conspiracy theorists and their gullible followers.
  22. Pfizer released news their vaccine is showing 90% efficacy in the study. It is still far from release. There are other vaccines also showing similar promise and neither tRump nor any other politician can take credit for those developments. There is still a long way to go to release. Hopefully it will be sometime in 2021. There has never been any proven amount of illegal voting with mail in votes. It is used in several countries alongside in person voting without a problem. Even tRump insisted they keep counting mail in votes in ridings where he was behind , just as he insisted in stopping the count where he was ahead. It will be interesting to see how tRump fares once he is out of office. There are several lawsuits pending and even some federal charges possible over taxes and other activity. Remember the "unindicted co-conspirator" in the 2016 election meddling ? He is that man. As I said in the previous post . After January 20 you might just start seeing the real Donald tRump.
  23. Biden's numbers are going u because they are counting the earl and mail in votes. There are a lot more mail in votes for Biden simpl because Biden and the Dems encouraged earl and mail in voting which was wise ,especially with the COVID pandemic. It limited the contact and exposure of the voters. tRump discouraged mail in and early voting and pushed in person voting on election day. Those votes got counted first so were naturally heavy in favour of him. The record levels of early and mail in votes favour Biden because most of those voters took the sensible advice to vote early and by mail and reduce the chances of exposure to or passing of the COVID virus. .It's really not rocket science and there was no fraud about it. I see this post didn't go , so I can update it now. Jacob, you don't know how close the US came to fascism and disaster under tRump. I suggest you get away from the crap of the extreme right and join the real world. The military industrial complex has done of brainwashing too many Americans. Hopefully after January 20 you'll begin to learn just who and what Donald Trump really is. It would do well for you to learn the difference between social programs in a democracy and socialism/ communism.
