  1. This thread is for asking advice on buying an atv(s): Post a link to the listing and ask questions...
  2. hey I should get a little atv like a 150cc or something to rip around
  3. thanks for all the input!
  4. its an 05 sportsman and its worth $700 tops in VA. Polaris will not let you down. I will say that arctic cat is reliable too though- I would go either way- Polaris has better performance.
  5. oooh gotcha. Thanks! will keep this in mind as I work on more bikes!
  6. Haha well you can have it for $100 if you come get it! As for giving parts away to other members here- I'm kinda tight on the budget (broke) right now- otherwise, I'd love to give atvs away and just fix them for free... I just love working on them..
  7. ok. I will take that advice- and also, I did come across a bayou 220 that could have used a new airbox hose and I used to have one- then I returned it so I didnt have it... So the carb is not for sale unless you give me a good price on it (like $100 hehe) thanks @Frank Angerano
  8. Also got a oem carb for that bike that has been cleaned, but leaks out of the overflow on the bowl. asking $50 for the eom carb (it is ready to go- just needs adjusted and it leaks) Got the foot guards off the bayou- the buyer said he didnt want them, so I would sell them for $20. Pics are below: The stock tires: 24x11 rear, 22x8 front. have over 50% tread, fronts a little more worn than the rears. Asking $100 must come pick up
  9. ok so I here you saying it could be both a head gasket and condensation? I did happen to look in the cap of the radiator when I had the bike apart before I got it running and I didnt see anything in it- I'm thinking its just slowly refilling itself? Anything I need to do about it? Fill from the radiator maybe? And the steam seems like condensations to me- only does it when (like you said) its cold outside and I can see my breath. So when I turn the engine on from cold, there is a pause (muffler heating up probably). Then it gushes white for about a minute, then quits for the rest of the ride- till the engine gets cold again. And doesnt do this when above 40ish
  10. hahahahahaha lol thats hilarious that he just started posting about his car like a boss on an atv forum
  11. yep got a laptop. Ok so heres whats going on: Fuel pump hooked back up- no more flooding and it appears to be working It no longer smokes...at all I took the 'snorkel' off the top of the airbox lid and adjusted the carb needle up (richer) to let more fuel and air into the engine The radiator has drained the antifreeze twice so far Heres my theory: The 'smoke' was just condensation because it was 40 or below when it was doing that, now that it quit, it over 50... The antifreeze disappearing: I guess the radiator was drained or leaks because the bike was sitting for a long time before I got it. I'm thinking as the radiator runs, it is sucking antifreeze into itself. I think this because I noticed that there were bubbles coming up from the hose in the antifreeze while the engine was running. Any input would be great! If this is what I think it is, the bike is ready to sell as soon as I clean it up....👍 I will say to all those out there with carbureted sportsmans: If you want more power, Take the snorkel off the airbox lid and adjust the carb needle clip down one notch- My sportsman is scary responsive now, it roars and also spins the rear tires if pegged. Before there was about a half-second delay in the throttle to rear end, now they seem to be directly connected- and my belt is shot too
  12. Yea I tried 1200 obo this is the new listing: price firm https://blacksburg.craigslist.org/snw/d/blacksburg-hunting-farm-quad/6827952848.html
  13. could have- wasnt getting interest for $1200
  14. oh haha yea thats what I do.
  15. haha yea well I'm not really what you would call ripped...
  16. ok. rumors are wrong then🤣
  17. https://blacksburg.craigslist.org/snw/d/blacksburg-kawasaki-bayou-300-atv/6827958116.html <--- For sale live in christiansburg VA If you want the full history on this bike, check out "Kawasaki Bayou runs bad" on this forum
  18. wont it hurt the electrical on a bike to run it without the battery hooked up? Thats what I've heard...
  19. hopfully... seems a long way off.. I would love to get my hands on one though.. biggest I've ridden is a 570.. that thing would get! I would want to put a clutch kit on it and a snorkel and radiator relocator and all....
  20. heh well I'm broke- gotta stick with the old carburetors.... hoping to flip my way up to a newer polaris sportsman efi 800 or 850... but cant find the 850s for under $8500...
  21. yea rn its just CL for me... just dont see many deals... maybe I'm in a bad area where not many folks have bikes- maybe I'm just being impatient...
  22. heh good point. I use a 18 inch breaker bar on mine--- just dont crank it down when tightening it back up. My dad is a general contractor, and he taught me from a young age how to be sensitive about overtightening nuts (especially on those new faucets- they have a copper supply line out of the fixture and I learned that if you hold a wrench close to the neck, you cant accidentally get too much leverage on it and break or twist something... same with a breaker bar and engines....
