  1. a closer look in my files and i have the service manual for that bike. (1995-2004) go to www.yousendit.com email > [email protected] password > romy1961 click on the folder section and it should be the bottom pdf file...
  2. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHrqIeK9adk]yamaha warrior stator replacement - YouTube[/ame] i didn't find the specs on the stator, but this vid showed it all. hope it helps
  3. i had read on a honda forum that a cdi box from a stock 250ex will give you about 700 more rpms on your 400ex. thought you would like to hear that or maybe you already had. some of the guys changed them out and about half said they could feel the difference... here's a 400ex parts link to some mods i found too... POWROLL PRODUCTS FOR THE TRX400EX
  4. it would be a really tough decision to stray me away from the big brands for any of the knock-offs that are less expensive. 99% of the time you get what you pay for in my opinion. i just had a friend buy a rhino knock-off and he paid about 2/3's of a new yamaha rhino. he only has 125kms on it (3 outings) and is still unusable. broken rims, bad electrical components, water pump... the list goes on. he is one of those guys that are very gentle on his equipment too. now the 'astro' dealer has picked up and moved out, leaving him with a nice boat anchor. you know an established name brand dealer won't leave you stranded like that, or wouldn't dare... not saying all knock-offs are like this, but be wary...
  5. side cover comes off, 3 bolts holding stator/generator on, 2 bolts holding pick-up on, you don't have to drain the oil, a very little might come out. be careful removing the gasket if you can re-use it. i just used silicone gasket maker when i put the cover back on... get an aftermarket stator, yamaha will drain your bank account if you buy OEM.
  6. nice looking machine!! you're going to have fun with that i'm sure...
  7. well i think you have a pretty reliable bike. i don't know if there are really any issues with it. it's a YAMAHA ! if you need a service manual i have a couple, not your year, but a 2000 and 2001 i think. just let me know and i'll upload it for you. i don't believe they changed alot thru that spread of years... and welcome to the site
  8. that's good news hangingon !!!
  9. probably carb needs good clean or rebuild kit, sae 80 for rear diff. i'd try putting oil in diff and running it and seeing if it is ok, no noise etc... you might have got lucky...
