  1. So I bought a 2008 Raptor 350 off a guy for $300 he told me all it needed was a new stator. So I bought a new stator and put it in it. When I did that the fourwheeler would start and shut off. I asked a buddy and he said that when you replace the stator you replace the voltage regulator. So I got a new one one and put that in it and it still starts up and shut off when you touch the gas. But if I unplug the voltage regulator it runs good until the fourwheeler gets to a certain RPM then it shuts off. Does anyone know what the problem is??
  2. 2003 Arctic cat 400 2x4 FIS I have a no spark issue. I was riding daring deer season, stopped and looked around got back on and it would not start. Waited about 15 mins and it fired up made it back to the trailer, next morning tried to unload and it hit one time ,then nothing, no fire. The ohms coming out of the magneto ,green blue and yellow white wires are within spec. The charging side black black wire was a little high. About .6 ohm’s spec is .32 to .48 ohm’s Checked the ignition coil voltage white/blue wire. I got 190v, spec is 31v and with the starter depressed I got about 188v spec is 130v. I got the same reading with the trigger discounted. ? Would the regulator/rectifier cause this problem or is it the CDI fried ????? Thanks for any help!!!!!
  3. I'm helping my 72 year old friend/riding buddy with his 08 Sportsman 500. We have full battery voltage at the battery and on the battery cable that connects to the solenoid. If I jump across the 2 posts the engine turns over fine. Also runs fine with the back up recoil. However, it doesn't appear to be getting any voltage to the solenoid from the key switch. Does anybody know of a common failure on these like a fuse or a circuit breaker etc. that supplies power to the solenoid?
  4. Ok on top of my brake issue I am also having a low voltage issue. The atv runs great it's just the lights/fan do not work and the battery does not charge. (Have to start with recoil start). I tested the wires that are coming from the stator for the charging part (3 black wires) and they all range from 1.3 volts to 1.8 volts it gets higher as the engine goes slower and the lights get brighter as you are killing the engine. Now when I idle it a little higher it stays steady at 1.18 volts. What is going on here is the stator bad or what else can I do for diagnosis. Thanks
  5. I have an LTZ Quad sport 400 that the battery won't stay charge while riding trickel charge all night ride for a few hours then dead have to jump with truck and charge for a few then can ride a little while longer yill fan kicks on then shuts off again checked volatge out seems to be at idel 11.41 or so rev up about 12.13 can anyone tell me what voltage is supposed to be and this is voltage from mag or gen not from regulator side
  6. I am having a problem with my 450 es shift, have been going thru the steps in the service manual checking battery, etc. Can anyone please do me a favor and connect a volt meter to your battery, turn on the lights and rev up your engine slowly, my symptoms point to a faulty voltage regulator/rectifier, when I rev my machine up my voltage slowly drops, the higher the rev the lower she goes. mabye triggering an ECM fault, my year machine does not show the fault, you can reset by turning the key off then on and rocking the machine and using the es to shift back to Neutral to restart. I also disconnected the speed sensor and found that the voltage at the Blue/Black wire to GND was 11.25 volts dc, 1 volt less than the battery was showing, according to the manual I should get battery voltage. I have also done a leak test on the battery, 1.5 mA, which is under the 5mA by the manual, disconnected the Voltage reg. and was the same, manaul then says (faulty regulator) not sure if this is my shift problem but would sure appreciate if anyone can confirm the requests above Thanks so much
  7. Charging issues solved with voltage regulator relocation Have you noticed your battery light blinking on your 2008 Poalris RZR? This alarm is telling you that the battery voltage on your RZR is too low. You would think that with a 500W stator that the RZR would have no problem keeping everything running. But even with no accessories and just the factory headlights and cooling fan on, many owners have encountered low voltage issues with their 2008 RZR. One main reason that causes this problem is your voltage regulator. The voltage regulator is designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level. In doing that work, the regulator will generate heat. Your voltage regulator needs to stay cool to properly charge your battery. 2008 RZRs have a problem with keeping the voltage regulator cool because it is located under the driver's seat. Once the regulator stops working, any power generated from the stator will not reach your electrical system and the battery voltage will drop. Then the battery light on your dash will start blinking and it is just a matter of time before you are stranded. Solve those battery voltage problems on your 2008 RZR without cutting any wires! Our extension allows you to move your voltage regulator from under the seat (no air flow = overheating) to in front of the radiator just like Polaris did on the 2009 models. This is a 10 1/2 foot long extension, using the correct Packard/Delphi connectors and terminals and assembled with correct Packard tooling. The harnesses will be made using high quality Cross Link Polymer wire and covered in high temp, flexible woven loom. This harness allows you to disconnect the voltage regulator on your 2008 Polaris RZR (under driver's seat) and relocate in front of the radiator like you find on 2009 RZRs. November 19, 2008 - Autotrend is currently taking pre-orders for first-run of this harness. Price per unit for this run will be $48.95 plus applicable tax and S&H. If you'd like to reserve a harness, use the email link below or call Autotrend directly. Name, address, phone number and C/C number are required. Credit card will not be charged until harnesses are built. Please note that you will need a bracket to mount the regulator up in front of the radiator as shown in the 2009 RZR photo above. You can order a bracket from your Polaris dealer - Part # - PL5252587.
