  1. It’s not about knowing more or less then any one member. This is not just a forum for repair and help. It’s also a forum for posting your pics and showing others what your bike is like and the areas you ride etc. there’s a ton of other stuff here.

  2. Worst quad I ever had was an arctic cat. The suzuki engine underneath ran great, but the unique carb with exceptionally poor quality rubber components and no parts support was frustrating. Then the terrible design to engage the four wheel drive was always causing trouble. Finally the plastics were of a quality I have only before seen on chinese bikes, once they got a crack of any sort it was like a party. Had to carry zip ties and a cordless drill with you or your bike would be naked after checking the cows.

  3. I once purchased a really clean bike only to find out that the oil drain plug was stripped. Chunks inside the case, liquid gasket holding in the plug. Didn't find it until it came time to do the first oil change, the seller had "just done it". I was so mad it sat for a few years until I switched the case. Even knowing what to look for wasn't enough to outdo a crooked seller. Always remember that any bike is not the last one you will see, if there is too much suspicious, leave it.

  4. CDI's on these are really bad, I've gone through several over the years. The kids love the little turds or they just wouldn't be worth the hassle. Also, buy a GOOD fuel filter for a couple bucks from a real atv dealer, the ones out of china self destruct causing more problems than the solve.

  5. I hope not. But then again this one isn't mine. It's my best friends. He dropped it off last night and said to fix it. I won't be buying parts but he will get the same quality of build as if it was mine. Isn't that how you build reputation? By word of mouth. So we all know it's a BRP. Anyone know specs? I haven't looked at it today. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

  6. Nice work on the progress. I would not run the engine without a filter. The filter will catch any junk that’s in the engine as your running it clean. So unfortunately it sucks to have to waste a few filters but I would do it at this point based on what you have into the bike already. Use a cheap oil at first for a flush, put a fresh filter in. Run the bike leave the filter in drain the oil. Put fresh oil in run it again and drain once more changing the filter and oil this time and you should be good to go. Maybe put a few hours on the bike and change it one more time. As for the oil plug that’s a bummer but there is an alternative to get the oil out. Take a look at this. It’s a small pump with a tube that gets down in the engine. They have electric ones as well but this one works good. My buddy uses it on his boat engine and the price is right. 7. I'm glad I searched on your starter before I commented LOL.. Most quad starters work through a gear train and spragg clutch. I see the Polaris does in fact use a Bendix system. Most likely the bendix is gummed up and stuck in the retracted position. Normally the torque of the starter spinning up sends the bendix gear into engagement with the ring gear on the flywheel. One thing to check before you tear into the bendix---- Is the battery fully charged?.. If the voltage is low the starter may not spin up quick enough to extend the bendix gear into the ring gear to start the motor. The motor will spin over too slow and whine but not actually engage to turn the motor over.

  8. I am on Facebook and also use Skype; although I don't use Skype nearly as much as I used to. When Microsoft bought Skype and started "improving" it the made a mess of it as far as I'm concerned . It went from an easy to use chat facility to one using too much of my screen while complicating some things that were easy to use. I am also in some other interest and community groups/ forums. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Skype all have their followers and users. I don't use Instagram and seldom check Twitter. My main connection to family and friends is Facebook and Skype now is mostly to chat with a friend in China since for some reason the PTB there block easy access to Facebook and Youtube. Security can be set as tight or loose on Facebook as you wish. Facebook has an added advantage in that you can have interest groups with in it to keep up with friends with shared interests without having everything open on your main page .. I am in a Ham Radio group, 4x4 and quad group, a gardening group, one on tropical fishkeeping as well as one on internet tv. I try to help out where I can , and otherwise toss in comments in the forums . It doesn't matter the activity or hobby, we all started as complete newbies, and asked our share of "stupid and easy" questions and others took the time to answer them . Yes , there were the know it all asses, but if you ignore them they soon get tired and go away or an admin makes them go away. There are no stupid questions. If youdon't ask , you won't find the answer. Sometimes the answer to your "stupid question" also helps others too shy or afraid to ask for fear of ridicule by the wise as* old timer who really isn't as wise and all knowing he thinks he is . The really smart ones know you can never know all there is on any subject and constantly learn new tricks. Sometimes those new tricks come from an answer to "stupid questions" . Those that "just come for the manuals" and leave don't know just how valuable a resource they are overlooking by doing so.

  9. All the years I've been on this forum, there have been a few "wise asses" that have been banned, but overall great people helping each other. Over the past few years its turned more into people joining for help than sharing pics, rides, etc. But that ok, its the facebook era and they reserve that stuff for facebook and Instagram I guess. Can you tell I like this new Giphy feature??? LOL This community has some great info, just use the search bar and you can probably find some interesting reading and solutions!

  12. If the springs are too weak to hold the rollers in, it's good you ordered new ones. They are probably too weak for the clutch to work properly even if you got everything together. I'd wait until you get the new springs. When you're ready to install it, put the gear into the starter clutch first. Then slide it on the crank as a unit. Before you slide it all the way on, you'll have to fit that small gear (cog #1 in your picture) into place.

  14. I think everyone has their own valid opinion of which is the best brand. I like my Honda , and friends who have them also swear by them . Yamaha , Kawasaki and Suzuki also have their fans. Kymco, although much less well known also has a very good reputation among those that can get over their prejudices against "Chinese junk" . Kymco is Taiwanese, makes parts for a few high end car makers and as well as for some of the more name brand Japanese ATV builders. I can't speak for the reliability of some of the newer models of US/ Canadian ATV builders, but some of the older ones did not have a great reputation here . For example , among the riders I know the old Polarises were better known by the name " Pullhairis" for the troubles they had . I think the best ATV is the one that does the job for you, is liked by your riding circle of friends and is the one you can afford. Keep the maintenance up and any of todays machines will serve you well, although I too am wary of unknown brands that sell cheaply. None of the name brand , domestic or foreign should let you down whether the machine is 40 years old or new .. Maintenance means much ore than age .
