  1. I’m going to take a look at my bike just to be sure give me a few
  2. Is the new carburetor an oem or aftermarket? We seem to go through this a lot with oem versus cheap replicas. They don’t work very well. The oem carb as long as it’s only a dirty/clogged carb it’s nothing a good soaking and cleaning could not fix. Must be taken apart and properly cleaned. Is this something you can do? It’s not hard.
  3. Bottom one is a drain/overflow hose. It should be routed down through the bottom of the bike and just sits open at the bottom for fuel over flow if the carb floods for any reason. The next one if I’m not mistaken is the fuel line connection. I have the bear tracker I will try to take a look when I get home for you.
  4. I would think they would be set but having the top end off and during the reassembly it can’t hurt to throw a gauge on and see how they are. You never know and don’t want to go back and find out later.
  5. I love the old bikes! Easy to work on for the most part. Repairs are usually not costly and if they are maintained they can run forever. Just picked up a 1998 bayou 220 today for a really good price.
  6. You were about to swamp the thing last week! This would be a great bike to learn on. It’s not that deep. Are you mechanically inclines at all ? I think you can do it!
  7. Hahahaha the hammer test. That’s a new one. So my guess is that the fuel in the bowl of the carburetor is being used up and then being starved for fuel hence the bike shutting down. So I would think the fuel delivery to the carburetor is restricted somehow. I would make sure the fuel delivery from the tank/gas valve, through the pump is working correctly. Take the fuel line off of the carb and aim it into a can of some sort, pull the spark plug wire ao the bike won’t start and crank the bike and see what kind of flow you have coming from fuel line. If it’s flowing good then that’s great. If not start working your way back. A lot of times when you do all the cleaning of the carb and tank etc sometimes a piece of leftover junk in the tank can get into a jet, float pin etc. it sucks but can happen. You can also get a small fuel tank and connect it to the carburetor and let gravity feed the carb, start the bike up and see if it runs steady.
  8. We all go to fuel, poor spark etc. This was a good find both as a problem solver and Info going foreword to help others. I personally would have never thought that problem existed. It just shows how valuable a site like Quadcrazy is ! 💪
  9. I don’t think the tape is a good idea. I would go back to the factory carb and set your fuel/air screw to 2-1/2 turns out from a snug tight position. That should get you running enough to tune it. Either 1/4 turn in or out. The higher it revs while turning the better. Lower the idle if the engine revs to high. Now as far as not running right and air box etc. Yes the air box and filter need to be in place. And that needs to be done prior to adjusting the fuel/air screw. Now after that is done you should check spark quality as well as add a new spark plug. Make sure you have a good spark. Is the fuel fresh ? And the valve (petcock) on the tank flowing good fuel ?
  10. So for us here in NY southern zone the deer rifle hunting season opens up tomorrow morning at sun up! Looks like about 8-10 inches of ❄️ fell up where we hunt. The bikes are ready, gear loaded and ready to go bags packed and the truck gassed up! To all my fellow hunters that will be out there chasing that big buck; should some of us get lucky..... may be using their ATV to load up that deer and take him to the butcher I say good luck be careful and be safe. Post some pics of how you did or didn’t do lol because it’s not about always shooting something but the time spent enjoying the woods and fresh air and riding in the ❄️! My oldest boy is of age to have his rifle and big game tag this year so this is a special year, wish him some Quadcrazy luck! Im banking on one of us getting lucky 🦌 this year especially bc I am out of venison 😢. I make some really good jerky and pot roast! Hope to see some pics!
  11. No prob. Be sure to post some pics of the work if you can.
  12. Welcome to Quadcrazy. Nice bike. I’m sure you will find all the help you need here!
  13. Awesome I bet you can’t wait to get started on the seals! If you look at one of my older posts I tore down my bayou 400 and did the valve seals. They were probably fine but since the head was off i figured might as well do them. Plus the seals came with the gasket kit anyway. I should have bought the valve compressor tool but wound up making one. Super important is the timing! Make sure your at TDC and the “T” mark on the fly wheel and the timing marks are where they belong on the top end pryor to removal and dont rotate the crank during this process If possible. You can always put it back if it happens but I like to leave it right where I took it off. Also take a few pics during just in case you need to take a look back. Valve cover bolts are all different lengths so number them with a sharpie and tape. When reassembling use plenty of lube/grease on the lobes and moving parts to avoid friction during the initial restart. After reasembly just spin the motor a few times without the spark plug just to make sure everything is smooth and oil pumps up to the head. 👊🏻
  14. Have you checked on YouTube? I seen a few videos on that item when I just looked. Ashe a long shot but there are a few with other bikes. Maybe that might get you going in the right direction.
  15. Awesome brother. You ever want to get together and ride a weekend let me know. I’m always up there with my two boys messing around with something . Shoot me a message any time.
  16. Catskills around ellenville, I’ve been at the place since I’m 12. I’m looking for a bigger piece now. I’ve been looking for about a year now. We love to hunt, fish and ride so I’m looking for 50+ acres. Hard to find what I’m looking for. I’m headed up this weekend to look at a few places.
  17. Wow blast from the past. I remember that bike. One of the first bikes with the new type “full floater” swing arm. I had a friend that only rode that and RM’s. I remember Yamaha had the same bike color and all. Look at that kick starter. It’s like 5 feet long! I started out on a Z50 worked my way up to a cr80 to a 125. Started racing Kawasaki 250 cc class for a few years and fell in love with my first fourtrax in the late 80’s/90’s blasting through the woods in upstate NY and I’ve been Quadcrazy since!!!!! Ok thanks for making me feel like an old man! #relic
  18. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F312295575430 here is an oem carb for your bike on eBay. &89 bucks. I agree 100% with @06kfx440 on the cheap aftermarket carbs. 👎 That’s a great diagram btw. Typical vacuum actuated carb. Great for rebuilding help.
  19. That’s the thing with the cheap aftermarket carbs. They look identical and appear to be spot on. I’m not saying not to go ahead and try it but I’ve just had no luck with them. I like using the oem carbs. Def curious of the compression reading when you take it. Keep us posted.
  20. It’s posable that it’s an aftermarket but I can’t be 100%. But by the looks I would say yes. Hears my issue with the aftermarket if it is one. I’ve purchased one before and put it on my Polaris 90. Bike fired right up and ran good for the first 3/4 throttle. After that it was a hot mess. So I picked up a used factory carb and rebuilt it and put it in the bike. It ran great. I took the cheaper one apart to see what was going on and found nothing!!!! I put it back on the bike to see how it performed and the same thing. Go figure. Not quite sure what’s what but it was def someplace in that carb causing a problem. Maybe the casting when made but not sure. I am a big fan of oem replacements. Just the way it is. I would try to locate a used factory carb, rebuild and put that on so you can put that end to rest. As far as valve seals.... that should stop the burn off you are getting once replaced.
