  1. I haven't noticed any of mine being top heavy, I guess it depends on who you ask and what type of riding they do , if that's a concern I would probably look for one with the widest footprint. Looking to buy new or used, do your homework read some reviews and when you decide on what you want ask the forum, we can tell you what we know, good and bad.
  2. Thats good so it is pressuring up, I would check my pressure before the regulator, running it should be about 35 PSI, it will be lower at first and them build up to that.
  3. Side by sides are great they have a steering wheel which I like, but they are very expensive, I have utility quads and I use them for exactly what you want to use them for, running around my property, I feel like they are more versatile, if you want to haul things use a trailer if you are just going to mailbox no trailer needed , if you want to take them to the woods they are smaller and easier to maneuver and more powerful to climb hills. They all need maintenance to keep them running properly and if not abused they will run a long time without any problems.
  4. New battery will certainly help with diagnosing the problem, I don't play around with batteries when they get weak I replace them, there are so much electronics on them now that needs the correct voltage to run and operate properly.
  5. Good job with the smoke, I suspected you had a leaky valve, be sure to lap them in to the old seat that could be where your problem lies.
  6. Sounds like regulator may not be working or have a restriction, pump should slow down or shut off when correct pressure is reached, I would check pressure before regulator as Mech suggested.
  7. Yeah my BigBear is on hold also, thought when I got the granite countertops in I would be in the clear, but honey doos never end. Floor is next.
  8. Oh I think I misunderstood stood, it turns over with the starter it just won't start, if so check for spark.
  9. Sounds like you are getting intermittent voltage check battery under load, if you are having to jump the solenoid and it cranks you have voltage, solenoid is not working.
  10. I try to keep mine about 5, with the extreme cold you tend to loose a little.
  11. Very nice looking ride, don't see too many of them in my area, don't know much about them, but the company has a good rating.
  12. You can get the correct die to clean up the threads on the crank and then replace the nut iv had to do this on several occasions it works fairly well, if the threads are too far gone gone you can use a smaller die, cut some new threads and go with smaller nut, not ideal but its better than replacing the crank. Iv also used a thread file it kind of works if you have enough patience, but a die works better. As far as missing parts you should have flywheel, see if all the magnets are in place, stator, and pickup coil.
  13. If you now have it in neutral and neutral light is not on, you may be able to pull the brake lever and start it.
  14. Suspicious only happened when you changed the carb, there is a throttle sensor on the carb, you might check that for proper function, also a lot of wires in that area you might check to make sure nothing got unplugged. Those carbs are fairly high tech and a new one may not be talking correctly with the ECU, depending on whether its OEM or aftermarket.
  15. If you didn't do so I would take out the pilot jet its down in a hole easy to miss, and also the emulsion tube from main jet to Venturi as Mech suggested, it may be stuck try pushing it out if no luck use a small hammer LIGHTLY it will come out, good choice you will have better performance with the Mikuni
  16. Good plan on the valves and rings, it still could be possible rings are oK, compression release valve could be causing your low reading or valves not sealing, but for peace of mind new rings are good. Good luck!
  17. 60 degrees is quite a bit, I wouldn't think a bad cdi would advance it that much, I would expect no spark, unless its not the correct cdi for that machine.
  18. Strange, could it possibly be wrong cover or different head, did it appear that the cover had been contacting the valve adjuster, im assuming the valve adjustment is correct. Just reaching here trying to think what would cause that.
  19. I also run Mobile 1 in all my vehicles have for 20 plus years and like it very much. In my ATV I have stuck with mineral oil , only because mine are older and that's what was recommended for them at the time of production, not sure if that's right or not, but that's what I do. I do stick with the manufacturers oil, only for peace of mind, because I feel like it is formulated right for their engines. Im sure there are probably better oils out there but yamalube has one of the best rating iv read, but I don't always believe everything I read, especially on the internet. One more thing I might add I did change one of my older vehicles to synthetic, a 99 V8, that had been using mineral oil since new and I noticed that it seemed to burn more oil than before, and synthetic to me seems thinner than the the same weight in mineral oil, so I switched it to high mileage synthetic and it even burned more oil, just my experience.
  20. I jut re read your post and missed the part where you had already pulled the head and leak tested your valves, check to see if your getting any weird suction feeling at the spark plug hole with your finger it just won't feel right, the only thing I can think of that could cause this is valve timing, when you check the timing make sure you are on the compression stroke, not likely, but you could be 180 off and marks still line up.
  21. You definitely should clean the carb if for no other reason peace of mind, you might try turning your petcock to prime and running it ,sometimes the vacuum petcocks go bad and you can't tell if its getting gas without the engine running.
  22. You have been very thorough with your diagnosis, but if you are getting suction from the exhaust there has to be something not right with the valves, I would work with it a little more to see if exhaust valve is sticking before I take the head off.
  23. New carb is flooding ,black plugs, you need to dial in the fuel air mixture if you can, I v had some trouble dialing in aftermarkets . also if the air filter is not stock aftermarkets can be rather dense and cause some degree of flooding.
  24. I agree with mech compression is low, borderline to even run, should be 140 or higher.
  25. Sounds like the timing advance is not functioning correctly, so I would also guess CDI , a little confused at what you are trying to bypass.
