  1. your idle is ok, is it a 400 or 500? take the clutch/belt cover off and make sure the clutch is not grabbing the belt at low rpm.. if the belt is turning and putting a load on the tranny it will cause it to not want to shift ...
  2. not sure on the specs... i had an '83 xl 100 dirt bike that would need the plug changed with a fresh one every time i went to start it. it would want to start, but foul the plug instanly, then change it, start it, and away i went... what's your plug like? have you a spare you can try?

  7. i do for long periods of no use, trickle charge is small juice up mostly .... my batteries are inside now, out of the machines, i juiced them when i brought them in, and i'll juice them before i put them back in...
  8. you can find what year if the sticker or plate is still there on the lower frame tube, to the left of the engine A1 = 1986 A2 = 1987 A3 = 1988 ^^^^^^^ is what the web is saying .... how's the plug wire or plug itself? what do the rest of the wires/wiring look like on the bike? spliced/taped/off? my 91 big bear had no spark, it needed a new stator... (but the guy told me that straight out when i bought it from him) i had to fix up quite a few wires too, alot were bared, broken...
  9. i have a yuasa battery for my bike (was told they are supposed to be one of the best.. sales gimmick?), and a 2amp motorcycle trickle charger for top ups
