  1. Standard clearance for most engines is .004 thou being on the tighter side and .006 thou being on the looser side for most engines. So a clearance of not being able to slide .006 in, barely being able to slide .005 in and .004 is loose would probably be a good setting. The only reason for valve lash is to make sure the valves are seating fully and and some people saying cooling but not much. That is where I would set them. If you want to be absolutely sure get a manual for your machine and it will say in there. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

  3. One and a half to to two turns on the carb screw is the normal amount. As for finding tdc, you will have a screw that goes into the case on the left side of quad. It is an about 1/2" plug that unscrews. In screw it and spin the motor over until u get a "T" and that means ur at top dead center Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  4. I have a Moto 4 350 with the same boot. I've thought about have a machine shop cut me one out of aluminum but that wouldn't be cheap. But neither is replacing the things every week Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  5. Try going to bike bandit .com and enter the quad u have. They will diagrams for every single system on the quad. They will also have part number and if you choose to pay that much for new parts u can order the part straight from them so you know u are getting the right thing. I normally like there to find the parts I need then buy the parts off eBay used. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  6. How does it run once it is started? Could be a small vacuum leak. Or it could be the float is too high/low and it is letting too much fuel into the carb. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  7. You can buy a plastic mesh. It is for some kind of craft. Where u take the short pieces of yarn and make a picture. It is just a white plastic mesh and you can cut that to the size you want. The take a hear gun and slowly melt it into the ATV plastic. I have done it and it works great if you take ur time. If u melt it too quick, then it is just stuck to the surface and will fall off the next time u run. Too slow and you melt the plastic piece. But you will probably take 5-10 minutes per area. Also if u go too slow if you spot with the heat gun u can burn it. Or drill a hole on each size and put a zip tie through them. Wire might work too But that looks like a foot well. Why not just buy a new one? It would be like $20 of eBay for a used one. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  8. Alright so I know that they all have their goods and bads. My options are the raptor 660 or 700(probably 700), ds650, outlaw 525, predator 500, or trx700. Before you rant and say this one is the period, I will have a budget of around $3000 tops. So that is however much I spend. After buying a raptor(660), ds650 and predator, I would have at absolute most $1000 dollars left. How ever with the raptor 700, outlaw 525, and trx I would be surprised to have any money left over. Now the extra money Now what I know, the ds650 is a pig stock, needs uncorked and tuned and has no reverse but can be a beast and rides good, the raptor 700 is a wheelier and way better than the 660 but neither can hill climb very well, the 660 is tippy and weaker and hard to tune. The outlaw is fast and expensive but rides like a dream but can't power slide, the predator is okay. Good power good shocks, just a good quad but has some reliability issues. And the trx700xx that is a dream but is like 4k and don't come up from sale much. Correct me if I am wrong with any of these statements. So which would u choose AND WHY, I don't give a sh** that u can owned a Yamaha since they started making em, why would u choose the one u chose. Thanks, and yes I did post this on multiple forums to get more views and more responses. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  9. I would say stay away from then. They are hit or miss and some times they won't replace a DOA one. I would say go with a used, tested OEM replacement Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  10. Workshop hero rust remover bath. It isn't keep($25 a gallon) but that stuff works. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  11. Check for leeks in the lines and carb. Take ether or carb cleaner and spray it all over the carbs. If the rpms jumo when you spray it. You have a leak. Or you didn't clean it well enough. Take both carbs back out and run a thin wire through the jets and any other passages. Also blown out passage with air just make sure you don't blow air into the air cut off and blow it out. 12. I got the idea from this video just I don't have a lathe and mill and shop press so I used a drill press, steel stock, a vise and a hammar. It is around the middle that they show how to use it. And you do have put some push behind it or it won't work. Insert the circlip part of the way just one tail of it. Take the stud poking out of the tool and put it on the tail of the clip you just put in. Push in towards the piston and making a spin it. But while you are spinning(not fast just rotate it in a circle in the wrist pin) you also need to put a little bit of pressure towards the stop the stud is at or the tool will slip and the circlip will go flying and will need to start over. The video does a good job showing how to do it. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  13. Okay well I got a starter with a Yamaha moto 4 I bought but I'm 99% sure it is not a moto 4 starter. I can't find numbers on it any where. So what I'm looking for is A. What is it from/for? B. How do I test it, because I'm gonna sell it, via eBay, craigslist, something. Pictures Thanks!! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  14. I made something had makes circlips super to install. All it is a piece of steel stock that I ground down to fit in the wrist pin(because I didn't have the right size steel stock on hand so I just took some metal off w/the grinder). Then I drilled a hole about half way through it and hammered a short pin into the hole. Then I ground the pin so it would just fit in the circlip's hole. then put the one end of the circlip in, put the pin on the end you just in. Press press the tool in pretty hard and twist. It makes putting them in a breeze. The main handle part ended up being 15/32" and the pin was 1/8". Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  15. Turn your handle bars...do your rpms jump? If they do then you need to adjust your throttle cable.
  16. Since you said you messed with the carb go ahead and do a retune. If you dont know how use youtube. Super easy and might fix your problem. Start at stock settings on the fuel/air and idle. Or you need to choke it when you start(not sure if you do or not) Or valves. Which isnt too bad either. Takes a while to adjust them but it isnt too hard.
  17. So I went through the top end and then put everything back together and did break in and then probably 3-4 rides. Now my start button doesnt work but i can jump the solenoid and it starts right up. I looked for bad connects and didnt see any. I then replaced the coil and got nothing. So before i blow more money on something i dont know if it will work, i would like your guys opinion on what it would be. Thanks. Oh and it is a suzuki 160 '91
  18. Okay so my question is not could you buy a diesel engine and put it in a quad. My question is, could you take any atv put high comp rings, an injector, bypass the carb, get a small injector pump and run if off the electronics all ready in the quad and make it run? I know it might run like chit but would it work? Why out all the sensors and crap?
  19. Ok. I was thinking about seafoam. I have a can of it i was just wondering if the was a good way since i already have the engine tore down.
  20. I have my suzuki 160 engine tore down and i am redoing all too end gaskets and rings and maybe gonna do values. So i pulled the values and the exhuast value is pretty bad. It is probably a 1/16 inch of hit and miss pieces of carbon up about 3/4inch of the stem. and the intake has some hit and miss chucks off carbon circle part. The piston doesnt have much. It has a layer but not even a complete layer. The head also has some a good layer. So how do guys say i should go about cleaning it off. My uncle said to use a wire wheel but i am pretty uncomfortable with that. I read spraying water in the carb after i put it back together. I also read a scotch bright and carb cleaner after i reassemble. Then there is always sea foam. So what do say i should do. Shindy values are only $25. I am trying to stay low cost and i am planing to sell this after im done but i want wanna half as* it and screw some one over. Thanks guys.
  21. Slow just was raised like any other country kid and liked big trucks and mud for my 11th birth day my dad bought me two kx80s, a parts bike and a running bike(neither ever ran), and ended up parting the bikes out and then bought a quad have always just loved it.
  22. Badlands or red bird? Or somewhere else. I wanna do trailing, mudding, hill climbing. Pretty much everything. Which do you prefer? Or maybe a different park? I want it to be a cheaper cost if it is a different park and camping if possible.
  23. Carbs arent that bad. People get scared of them. Just youtube "how to clean carb" and "how to tune idle on carb" and "how to tune mix on carb". They are really not hard. Put a WHITE trash bag down where you are gonna work. Get a can of carb cleaner. Take 1 thing out a a time. Once you have clean that 1 thing, put it right back, unless there is something more under it the need to be cleaned. Then take that out clean it and put it back. For tuning you wanna start with idle screw all the way in. Then you are gonna screw you mixture screw all the way in. The screws only need to be lightly seated. Now the only issue is that your quad isnt running. Normally you would screw it out until it is at the highest rpm you can get it with the mixture screw. Then go to your idle and slowly turn that out till it has a good idle speed. Im gonna say the normal turns out is 2 1/2. So just put them both around there and see. Start with the carb cleaning then tuning. Youtube will really help with the carb. They do seem imitating. Are you filters clean? Is there all the proper fluids?
  24. If your truck isnt your daily driver, just leave your truck hooked up. I dont think any body is gonna get away with you trailer and your truck.
