  1. i hear ya ... for sure i do ... i think of all the chinese quads, Kymco has the best name for quality and reliability. it wasnt always like that i know. but, like new products being produced in their infancy, there were querks and problems. i think the biggest problem still with the chinese atvs are the electrical components. they are inferior to their japanese counterparts ... but they may be getting a handle on that now. 5 grand for a brand new quad is a great deal, all i would say is to make sure your dealer will go to bat for you when you have issues. when do you plan on buying? will love to see the posts and pics of your excursions !!
  2. like i said, just my opinion ... i know i would watch and investigate any used machine i bought ... i bought an almost 20 year old basket case, i got it back up and running to tip top shape for under 1200 and i know it will last another 10-20 years ... but like i said, just my opinion
  3. IMO, I would buy a honda, 450 or under, you could get a super deal on a good used one for the money you are willing to put out, shop around. i know the chinese brands are getting better with quality, but i would bet a 5 year old honda will outlast any new chinese brand 4 times over. i owned 2 hondas, they are bullet proof, they may get scratched and dinged up, but they just keep on going and going with minimal repair with decent maintenance. again, JMHO ...
  4. if the plug is black, then its burning rich. i dont think the other problems are affecting the rev issue. is there fuel running out the bowl overflow where you plug it to settle it down? the throttle cable moves nice and the slide works well and isnt sticking? how are the vacuum lines on the carb? is the needle and seat working properly and is the float whole and not taking on fuel? how is the spark plug? proper heat range? hopefully a suzuki guy will jump in to give some suggestions too ...

  14. i think they will be drum, hopefully not like mine on a 91 big bear i have, i think 2 of the wheel cylinders are seized and for the price of new, well, i sure would like to convert them to disc
  15. here is the service manual, i think it has the specs to test the volts/ohms etc. for troubleshooting. it could be a bad ground, a couple wires touching and shorting out and could be the stator too ... tough call ... https://www.hightail.com/download/elNLQmtUY1M5NVhSc01UQw
  16. thats what i found in a suzuki atv forum ...
  17. taller tires would help too, you have 25s? 27s would put it up 2 more inches ... another expense ... but you may not need to when the ground is frozen again ...
  18. that might help for sure ... it will help not wanting to dive with the attachment on ...
  19. nice you were able to salvage the electrical parts. front brakes ... drum? yah they are special for sure LOL. why are you thinking alternator? the bikes have stators and if you are getting good spark, it is ok ,,, are you having problems with lights dimming or battery not holding a charge?
