  1. yes, oil on filter lightly. you're getting too much gas somehow, maybe a bad needle and seat for the float.
  2. if it is running lean (more air than fuel), it will backfire at the carb, if it is running rich (more fuel than air), it will backfire out the exhaust ...
  3. it will back fire with too much air and not enough fuel. is it back firing (can you tell), at the carb or at the exhaust pipe? is the engine getting really hot?
  4. i would remove it from the rubber manifold coming from the block. leave the rubber in place at the block, i think it would be much easier. (well, nothin's easy LOL) and remove the airbox hose where it connects at the carb.
  5. where the four screws come out to remove the bowl, it would be about that height of fuel ...
  6. nice !! i have a polaris 600xlt engine that runs great, but the sled needs a ton of work, and a member on here has put that same engine in a quad and raced it, said it was crazy fast too. maybe i'll look for a cheap frame and chassis as a future project
  7. there's usually alot of work to be done on them, especially the basket case ones. but look at the fun you're having now .... i'm in the same boat it seems, strip 1 nut, break 3 bolts... a little annoying, but, all fun and not a huge money pit. (so far)
  8. are you the proud owner of a 300ex now?
  9. i agree with wylde1 !!
  10. probably just a little dirt in the carb... sometimes a spray carb cleaner will fix it, there are also good products you can add in the fuel tank to help clean the carburetor.
  11. more than likely it is a carb issue. float is stuck or jet is dirty. i would try cleaning it first before anything else, it could be your timing, but when you parked it in the fall, did it run ok?
  12. good morning !! доброе утро !!
  13. leaded only and with a clutch, crazy eh?
  14. nice !! good news mario i'll have a double whatever
  15. the 250R was a two stroke, the 250ES was electric start and shaft drive i believe, and the 250SX a motocross suspension package of sorts i think ... S, E, ES, M are usually utility models, X, R, and SX are sport or racing.
  16. hope this will help ...
  17. hello and welcome. i take it this bike is a honda... if you need a repair manual, let me know. it should help you out some.
  18. CONGRATS !! right on wylde1 !! those cams look awesome too !!
  19. i'd like to know how these derelict's get a job of accountability and trust if they can't even read, or for that matter, distinguish numbers ....
  20. i hate doing it myself, but no other way around it, it's alot easier with the plastic and racks out of the way, but you can look at all the switches and connectors first, make sure there is good contact and clean, add a little dielectric grease along the way. check out the wires that have rub marks etc. first and as last resort remove plastic. i had a bad ground wire that was solid connected each end, but broken in the middle, i lucked out there, maybe you will too. check your kill switch, sometimes they get corroded and arc closed...
  21. it prob should have coughed abit with the quick start if it was a fuel prob. i think it's deff more electrical then ... 1 bad wire grounding out somewhere or off a switch i would think. the spark at the plug is consistent and bright when it rolls over?
  22. what happens if you give a spray of quick start? have you tried that or a little fuel down the spark plug?
