  1. I've never ridden a 400EX;but I'd recomend a Suzuki Z400.To my knowledge they all came with reverse whereas I don't think all the 400ex's did.I ride trails and woods alot and reverse is really handy for gettin yourself out of a sticky spot.I'd go and test ride as many quads as you can to make a well informed decision on your own.Hope this helps...
  2. Those are some really nice pics!I must've missed out on some news;what happened to the yellow Rhino?I'm likin the new black one though...
  3. I cannot believe no one listed "Looney Tunes"!!I mean;c'mon how could anyone not like seeing Wile E Coyote being blown up,smashed, burnt etc,etc thousands of times??Not to mention the tazmanian devil, the roadrunner(another fav of mine),Sylvester,Tweety,Porky,BugsBunny,etc...
  4. I got an '02 Chevy Z71 s/b pickup and also a pwc trailer that's been converted to a 6x12 flatbed.I didn't do the trailer conversion;I bought it like that. It's not the purtiest but it gets the job done
  5. Does that machine have an electric fuel pump?If it does there might be an issue with the bypass/regulator;causing it to overfill the fuel bowl. That would also explain why it's still doing it after the new carb was installed...Have you checked all the carb vent hoses for blockage? That could also be a cause(I think)
  6. I'm almost as far from CO as Scott is.I'd say a mid point would probably be Missouri or Oklahoma.Even still;that'd be a 8-12 hr drive for me.I'm in west central IN.When are you thinking about having this get-together?
  7. That's a cool project TB.I have a '96 Caprice project that I'm slowly trying to convert to an Impala SS clone/hot street/strip/auto x car.If/when you start doing engine mods you should check out PCMforless.com .It's a company that reprograms the pcm for mods like gear/tire size changes, cam changes, bigger injectors, etc.Has your Dad had any transmission problems yet?My car has had the trans rebuilt twice and lots of fuel pump problems.I hope to completly rebuild the suspension along with lowering springs, aftermarket control arms, sway bars, etc this summer.
  8. Is there a decompressor on that engine?I've seen several on 4 strokes but I'm unfamiliar with the 2 strokes.I would think that if there is a decompressor on it and it was froze/broken spring/out of time that could contribute to the easy movement of the kickstarter.I found a site that has oem and generic(Clymer and Haynes)service manuals called Repair Manual Catalog Online - RepairManual.com I got an oem manual for my DVX for about $30 shipped in about a week and a half.Good luck
  9. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's a 250Xfourtrax.The "X" models were usually the sport models and the "fourtrax" models were the utes.I have a '91 250X and it doesn't look like that pic
  10. Is that a Sportsman 500?I read somewhere they had a recall on them for the ecm...
  11. I didn't get out this weekend but I did go last weekend.A friend and I went to Badlands offroad park in Indiana. Badlands Off Road Park - Indiana, 4x4, ATV, motorcycle riding, sand dunes, mud pits, rock crawling It was my first time to that riding area.I didn't get any pictures this time;but next time for sure!We had a really good time but it was a little overcast and semi wet/cool.I'd never rode on sand before;I can see why everyone talks about going to Glamis&Pismo now.It was awesome!!:wink:I was really sore the next 2 days though. It was my first long ride of the year(about 6-7 hrs)
  12. I'm not familiar with the Big Bear.Have you looked at other model years rear brake system? If the same machine from a different year has rear disc or wet drum style you may be able to get parts from an atv salvage yard and do the conversion yourself.I think it'd be expensive but cheaper than buying a whole new machine. If you do a conversion;make sure you write down all the info from the donor vehicles. That way it'll be easier to get the proper service parts in the future...
  13. There's an online copy of a service manual for a Z400 in the other atv forum I post on.I know you have a Honda but the measurements are the same;with different settings/specs.Here's a link ATV Forum Website. ATV. ATV News ATV Reviews Kids ATV ATV Parts ATV Forums The correct settings/specs should be in your owners manual. You can check to make sure both sides are straight by using a tape measure.Measure from the inside of each steer tire to the frame.Hope this helps
  14. Is there any one or two peices of protective gear that someone could recommend to get first besides a helmet?I've been thinking about getting some and don't know what to get.I always wear my helmet and I just got some boots last week.I consider myself to be a recreational rider;not a racer.I'm planning on getting some nerfs and an safety kill switch later this summer...
  15. I have that magazine laying around somewhere.I thought it was a cool article;but it made me feel bad that a 250 could have as much or more power as my 400.I read somewhere that with a few simple mods the 450R will put out around 50 hp.I'm not sure of the truth in that though.I'd like to know the power to weight ratio of the KTM 525 quad and the Kawi Prairie 650.Something else I'd like to see in the future is a stock oem turbo UTV or ATV.I think forced induction is awesome
  16. I ride mainly for fun.Mostly trails and woods riding.I like to race my buddies that ride a bigger quad;just to see if I can keep up or sometimes beat 'em.I think women riders are cool.I'd love to be able to share my interest in riding atv's and hotrodding cars/trucks with my significant other.I'd like more info about how to get into either hairscrambles and/or GNCC...
  17. I found this site when when the first atv forum site I joined was down.I googled "atv forums".This site's name caught my interest.
  18. I have 2 sport quads;I'm another go fast type.Maybe the next machine I buy will be a ute;I really like my buddy's 650 Prairie.I got the older one first;just to see if I was gonna like riding('91 Honda 250X).I thought I was getting a good deal on the purchase because the seller claimed it had lots of new parts.I later found I paid more than it was worth =( After I started doing some maintenance I found more wrong with it and also found there wasn't any good Honda dealers within 30-40 miles.I started getting parts from a local AC dealer.I got tired of working on it more than riding it and started having problems getting parts.I kept eyeing the '07 Artic Cat DVX400 when I was getting parts.I liked that it had reverse;since I do alot of trail/woods riding.I finally bought it and am mostly happy with it so far.I kept the old Honda and am using it for a spare/family quad.I think I might try for some amateur(sp?)GNCC stuff if and when I get back on day shift or another job. After I get both put back together from recent mods I'll try to get some pics up.
  19. It sounds like a type of limited slip to me.Do you have a link to the site?I think if it were me;I'd want a manual type of front diff lock similar to whats found on the Kawasaki Prairie.I've heard the Polaris models that come with a front limited slip and some people complain that it doesn't lock both wheels as soon as they'd like.I would think the website you seen would say if they made one for the AC's or not.
  20. Are you trying to decide between just those two?I have a '91 TRX 250X with a full system FMF(old style powerbomb header with powercore4 muffler). It's alot louder than stock but it gave good power gains.IIRC I picked it up for around $300.I don't have any experience between the two brands you listed...Whichever brand you go with;check about a rejet kit while you're at it
  21. Welcome to the forum Lior! That beach looks like lots of fun.I've never rode in sand yet.Just out of curiosity;what are you planning on getting next?I have a 2007 green/black DVX400.I like it pretty well but have been thinking off&on about trading in on something bigger&better...
  22. I seen a movie called Torque that they used some sort of clamp on device outside of their helmet for their cell phones.I would think those adapters that go on your neck (like the Navy Seals use)would work better. If you have a Nextel phone it has a walkie talkie function that works up to six miles outside of service area. We've tried walkie talkies designed for hunting that were rated for 25 miles;but with all the hills and ravines in my area they don't work but the Nextel does...
  23. I think I found out why it's turning colors.I didn't adjust the fuel mixture screw. On my quad;there's a cap I have to remove(damn you EPA lol)to be able to access the mixture screw.I was told by the exhaust manufacturer that I would only have to rejet the main(they never said anything about the mix screw).I sent a message to Dynojet and they said to get the most power I need to change the needle also. They've been MUCH more helpful than the manufacturer(they even have a Q&A forum-what a waste of my time that was!!).So I think I'm gonna order the Dynojet kit and maybe a couple more things while I'm at it.Thanks to all who replied...
  24. I just installed a new full system exhaust and a K&N filter on my '07 Arctic Cat DVX400.It uses a Mikuni brand carb.I installed the recommended 150 main jet before I started it.(Stock is 130)I started the engine and the head pipe turned orange hot.Is this a sign of too rich?Should I go to a lower size main jet or is there another adjustment/jet that needs changed?
  25. I use Progressive on my new quad and no insurance on the old one.I'm high risk(too many speeding tickets in my project car).It costs me 500 per year for full coverage plus bodily harm insurance.I've started slowing down on the streets and am looking for ways to get faster in the dirt lol. After I get the old quad to the point where it's rideable more than broken I'll probably get it insured also...
