@Alan Callison @GlenI Yes it can be expensive but worth it also. As far as the non starting it could be the main fuse next to the starter relay, a bad safety like a neutral safety switch, or something locking it out like a bad ignition or kill switch. Download the manual and post the wire diagram and I will help you out where I can tracing the source. As far as The bayou 220 goes @GlenI its going to be fun to do. Get familiar with the manual as soon as you are able to download and again you will find everything you need here info/helpwise. It’s only a machine and there is always an answer. Bad or good but there is an answer.

Quick question. Have you put the wheel back on whole or in the air and see if the rim or axle is bent ?

Wow cool find in such great shape. The older bikes usually take a little longer to warm up. So I would not worry about that. It’s normal. Once she gets going she runs good like you said. Try to keep it in tact and running good. Sweet bike.

Welcome to Quadcrazy. Yes there is def a manual available. You have to be proactive in 10+ posts before you are able to download a manual which will be simple. Seems like a lot of bayous posted these days esp the 220 and 300’s. I’ve jist wrapped up a project 220 and a few other members on this forum are working on a few 300’s so any questions I’m sure you will get answers to here. So what’s the deal was it a barn find ? Sitting around ? Did the old owner give you any background on the bike? Any pics ?

Unless it was a 400 Bayou part that was put on? Any other damage that you can see on the frame ?

So most likely it was wrecked and another year knuckle was put on you think ? You can’t do a larger front wheel. They all have to be the same size or you will destroy the transmission.

Yep maybe a collapsed bearing. Only thing that gets me is the rotor would have some play in and out.

I know it’s frustrating. Take a deep breath. Is the shaft spinning when you crank the engine ?

Ok so take some measurements and see what’s didfent. Feel around a bit see what’s wrong. You will find it.

You should not need to take the engine out or split it to replace the water pump. I would have done that while the head was off just to eliminate the possibility of it being bad. But no way should you have to pull the engine or split it open.

Does there look like any welding was done on any of the parts ? You are going to have to turn the wheel in both directions. And while doing so take a few seconds and try to wiggle the parts on that front end for movement. Also look behind the rotor and compare one rotor to the other sidde. Also clearance between the back plate. Compare both sides take some pics and post. Maybe we will see something that stands out.

That part you think is bent is not really likely to bent. It’s more likely to snap or break i should say since it’s a casted metal piece. I would def pull the wheel to see if something is missing like a spacer or a blown/collapsed bearing or the wrong rim maybe?

@pokerl0w Too much Cervesa lol it’s all good. I read the email alert and seen your original post 🥴 I actually missed out on that bike. I was going last Saturday to look at it both of the bikes and by the time Saturday came around it was gone. The guy let it go for $600 bucks. I should have moved faster on it and I usually do! Shame on me. But if it was a 4x4 I would have gotten in my truck the second I found It. I once found a Honda fourtrax at 9 pm, the guy just posted it that night. I called him and said how much so he said make an offer. So I said $100 as a joke and he responds and says can I do $125 😳 I said yes but I need to pick it up right now. He said fine! Hence I found a 2001 Honda fourtrax 4x4 for $125. (Not running) I spend a considerable amount of time and have learned where and how to look for bikes as well as having alerts sent to my phone whenever certain posts go up. I put a lot of time in. Some posts are fake and scams and most are real. I’ve learned to spot the fakes straight away. But one other thing. I also know the value of a bike as a part out. That bayou would have made me my money back just in plastics and metal racks. I am looking everywhere every day and always come across these bikes. That’s how I do it !

Should be. Manufacturers really don’t chnage the location of the vin#s. For instance my old fourtrax late 90s was on the front of the frame. My newer rancher 2012 is in the same spot. Same for a few of my bikes.

@tundrawolf CV carburetors are really good carbs. They are not very difficult to deal with once you understand them. I would check the main jet which is the part #8 in the diagram I sent you. That is the rubber diaphram (aka piston slide). The rubber seal at the top may have a hole in it. Since that slide is drawn up by vacuum created in the carb/engine so a hole would really cause problems. Just a guess. I also attached a few other diagrams so you have a better understanding of the carb and what to clean. Good luck.

If you do know someone in a body shop you can sand and prep the plastics yourself and just have them shoot it in a booth. They come out great.

That vin number looks a little short. Should be 17 letters/numbers long. Take a pic of the vin as also of the bike and post it here.

Love going out just for a cruise. Here is a question. Whith all of my bikes I add on the front and back Go pro cam mounts. I do it bc I like to see how the ride looks afterwards. The rear cam catches my son who is usually behind me. And the front just for sh*** and giggles. But it’s also good to record other things. So when I’m out solo upstate I like to turn it on and go cruising and hope to catch a deer or any other crazy animal that may jump out. Bottom line of anything happens it’s on video!!!

Sometime when it’s bad like that I lightly sand the area with a 220 grit paper and then put a piece of paper from my printer over the number and run a pencil really fast back and forth over the vin # and it transfers onto the paper.
