    hopefully ck1999_400ex will jump in here and give you some advice ... i think if i were you, i would tap those broken bolts out and replace them, only because that engine is turning out 5000+rpm and if it had 4 holding it in and only 2 now, i would be worried about losing something ... JMO

    i have heard sometimes if you unplug the cdi box overnight, it might reset some things and take your problem away ... just a thought ... might not do anything, but nothing ventured, nothing gained ...

    im pretty sure it has to be replaced ... (thank Suzuki for that) its a one way gear and i think it is behind the flywheel so theres a bit of work that needs to be done, if thats whats wrong ...

    i usually let mine go all night, but if you are reading that, it should be good ... you might want to do what ck suggested with the starter, i would try to take it to a napa or someone that can do a load test on it. it might spin while out of the engine, but might not under a load. i would check the gear/sprocket the end of the starter goes in too. it should spin freely one way only ...

    they should be trickle charged overnight, like 2 - 3 amps ...

    a fully charged "standing" battery should read 12.5 - 12.7 volts.
