  1. Stained, sealed and ready to roll! This weather is a good indicator how the water will bead up on the wood and see how well the sealer worked. FYI did anyone know Thompson’s water sealer has been banned in the state ? I went to the store to get some and they said it’s no longer available here in NY due to a chemical that is harmful. I wound up using a new oil based product that seems to be good but we will see.
  2. I would bring it right back in and explain and let them ride it. My guess is a balance issue or like I said someone maybe went over something like a rock etc. Have you checked all the rims and tires including the inside for any damage ?
  3. This may sound weird but you can check all the axles and shafts for a bend but it’s a pain in the as*. I’ve checked drive shafts and axles for bends by getting the wheels off of the ground so they all spin free. I took a piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe that’s two feet long and drilled a small hole through the pipe at the end. I stuck a 3 inch long screw into the pipe all the way through so the last 2-1/2 inches are sticking out the other side of the pipe. I took the pipe and placed it where I can clamp it to the frame of the bike and the screw is close to and pointed at the shafts your looking at. The screwtip should be just under a 1/4 inch from any axle your looking at. Rotate the wheels by hand so the axle spins and see if the shaft gets closer to the screw tip or even hits it. If it does mark that spot with a marker. In addition to and before going through all of this you should start by looking for any obvious damage to the shafts first. I attached some pics for you to help visualize what I’m talking about.

  6. Hey Christopher welcome to Quadcrazy, so glad to hear you got it running right. The cooling system fan runs off a sensor that’s mounted in the radiator. On that sensor are two wires. While the bike is running take the two wires off the sensor and jump them together. The fan should come on. If not then test the wires for 12 v. If you don’t have 12v then the fan power is obviously not there and it’s a mater of tracing the wires back to the source. Keep in mind that some manufacturers have two points of protection in place, one is the fuse at the fuse block and the other is an in-line fuse that’s going to the fan. If you do have power at one of the two wires going to the sensor and when you jump them together and the fan does not come on then your fan motor may be bad.
  7. What do you mean he ruined your battery ? Is it possible that he tried to jump start it and hooked up the cables backwards? That would cause a considerable amount of electrical damage. It’s electronic fuel pump so you would have to take a tester and put it on the wires of the fuel pump with the key on. See if you have 12v at the pump. Before all that go basic first, look for blown fuses. Is the fuel gauge electric or float type? I would check for spark as well while your doing some testing also smell around and look around for any burnt wires along the frame. If that machine was fine before you lent it out then my guess is either he sank the dam thing in water or he jumped it and hooked up the cables backwards.
  8. Not really a test on he pump I can think of other then the ones I mentioned. What your looking for is coolant pushing out of the ports inside the radiator. Drain a little coolant out if you have to maybe an inch or two so you can look down into the radiator. When the engine runs the pump spins and your coolant circulation happens. That’s without the thermostat, when the thermostats installed the engine needs to reach temperature for it to open and then circulation begins. Some engines have a small bypass hose to allow minor circulation to happen I don’t think that’s on the Mojave. I’m assuming you put the silencer back on since it was clear ? Here is a pic of the name of the carb rebuild kit I use. I know you said you pulled the screw out to 2 turns and it works but if you decide to change that screw at least you have a kit with the air fuel screw. I piss my neighbors off all the time until they need something lol. Snow blowers don’t start, pressure washers car problems etc.
  9. I would like to hear who uses what to clean there ATV’S. I’ve always been a fan of simple green and it’s always worked well but with this new property and the crazy black mud and clay that’s there I have to say the simple green is not cutting it. So from cleaning right after a ride to cleaning them when you find one in a barn I would like to hear what everyone does and what your recommendations. I’m looking to try something new.
  10. Age is all mind over matter! If you don’t mind it don’t matter!!!!! Lol. But to be honest I feel the same way. All my friends have 600’s,700’s and 800’s etc, I love my 420 as it’s plenty fast. One thing I’m really interested in though is independent suspension. I am seriously thinking about a newer machine with independent suspension but that’s maybe next year. Need to flip a few more bikes since I like the fact that all the newer bikes I have are all purchased with money from buying, fixing and selling older atv’s. But anyway not to get off topic I like both of the machines you have and you take good care of your older one and I’m sure you’ll do the same with the newer one. Keep up the good work and ride safe guys. Keep the pics and the outings/rides coming.
  11. A grey color, usually means water or coolant in the oil. You didn’t have to drain it just take a bit out but if it’s black it could use a change anyway. So that’s a good thing then if it’s a dark color. Moving on ! How about the thermostat housing? FYI you can take the thermostat out and use high heat silicone if the gasket gets torn or messed up as a temporary seal to test weather the water is circulating through the system. Me personally I would put a new thermostat in because it’s open but you can test it the way I explained for now to see if the engine runs cool without the thermostat. If there is no circulation then the water pump is not spinning but that’s the next step.

  13. Pull the cap off ya radiator and run the bike. After the engine gets warm the thermostat opens and you see water circulating through the system. Or you can pull the thermostat out and put housing back on without the thermostat and run the engine and see if it still gets hot.
  14. Locate that hub switch and there should be a white wire coming off of it. That white wire goes to the handle bar switch. That white wire you are holding might be coming from the hub switch. So start there and trace it back.
  15. The air fuel screw is an important item on a rebuild kit. The tip of the screw gets worn down and that’s why your not getting an adjustment. Quick question, your coolant is full in the engine ? Thermostat and water pump are working including the fan ? It sounds like it’s got no coolant. If that exhaust silencer is not backed up then it’s running extremely hot for some reason. Check your oil and make sure no discoloring as if coolant is mixed in with the oil as well.
  16. Sorry I was working all day give me a little bit and I will try and help you sort it out. If you look at the photo with the diagram it shows a ETC switch and an AWD switch. The ETC matches the color code wires you mentioned and goes back to the hub safety switch. I would start by tracing the wires from the handlebars and work your way down to the controller and the to the hub solenoids.
