stator generates the power ... regulator/rectifier keeps constant voltage ... usually the solenoid connections will spoil before anywhere else (besides the battery terminals corroding) it seems ... battery while running with volt meter should read between 14.3-14.7Vs with lights on ...

1996 Yamaha Big Bear - Fouled Plug
oxidized_black replied to ChristerLun's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
yes, you would have to see if you are burning oil. or if its just a strong smell of gas in the exhaust. thought maybe could be bad choke diaphragm causing fuel to leak into carb too ... hopefully it is just fuel problem ... -
1996 Yamaha Big Bear - Fouled Plug
oxidized_black replied to ChristerLun's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
you could use a hotter plug in it too to help burn away the fouling ... your plug should be an NGK D8EA and the hotter plug would be a D7EA ... the valves might need a tweaking too ... this is the 350 model?? -
1996 Yamaha Big Bear - Fouled Plug
oxidized_black replied to ChristerLun's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
the plug is turning black because its running rich, higher fuel to air ratio. you could adjust the air/fuel mix screw and check air filter and vent lines to remedy. maybe run some carb cleaner through it too. the tire isnt a big deal, unless it is a different size, i think you have 25" stock tires, if you run bigger or smaller, it would damage the 4WD system ,,, but if it is same size, you are good to go -
yup, i think thats a fair price ... there is a member here, rappy97, that would be good to talk to about stock and mod tweaks you could do ...

good bike, how many hours and whats the mileage like?
-
how is the battery?
-
most times if it runs good for 20 minutes, then starts going crazy not wanting to run right, is because of a bad coil. a cold coil will run good until it heats up, then goes for a crap. not saying that is what is wrong with yours, but something to look at. look at your spark with the plug out and grounded to the motor and crank it over. probably really bright blue. run the bike until it starts acting up again and pull the plug and do the same thing. could be dimmer. im not sure there is a test that would 100 per cent tell you its the coil ... maybe someone else will jump in and give you a few ideas ...

i am about to put a new cover on myself. i have read alot about this. i think the key to making it successful is heat, make sure the cover is nice and warm and use a heat gun when pulling it around the edges when it is close to being all the way on. the other tricky part is to fasten it with staples. not everyone has upholstery staples. i think with me, i will put the cover on and take it to an upholsterer to finalize it. not sure about that yet, but i wont jeopardize the cover if i cant do it myself. i figure 20-25 bucks at a bike shop or upholsterers will do it ... youtube has videos on it ...
