  1. Just remove the exhaust not the entire header pipe. There should be only two springs and maybe one bolt.
  2. Awsome let me know if that works out for you.
  3. I would not mess with the timing or anything else until you rule out the carb. I would do a few plug chops and see if you are running lean. Did you try running without the exhaust on the bike? The spark arrestor could be clogged. Can you feel exhaust coming out of the muffler. From my experience the backfiring sounds like the carb is not getting enough fuel. I will take a look at the parts diagram and see if there are any vacuum lines. May be too early of a model year to have those. Lets hear some background on the bike. Like who you bought it from what condition it is in and what elevation you are at. I will try and help you to narrow down the problem.
  4. Please do not run the bike lean for a long period of time, the will kill you when it blows up. You are better off to run rich then lean. Removing the air box will provide more air and lean it out even more. Check for any part of the intake leaking air in. If everything checks out OK then you need to rejet. Where did you buy the bike from and what temp is it there? Altitude is also another factor. Did the previous owner modify the air intake in any way? Maybe he did not rejet after that. I would also check if there is a inline fuel filter and change that if there is. I have been crazy busy with the nice weather here, I think we should post back and forth on this thread but drop me a pm if you need a response in a hurry.
  5. I had the same problem on my ATV. The only difference is I am running 11:1 compression. It turned out the be the brushes on my starter was warn but here is what I did before buying a new starter. Here is the typical checklist: Make sure battery is good and fully charged. Check all of the grounds for corrosion or loose connections. Replace the plug, some plugs will spark when outside of the engine but when under pressure they fail. Replace starter wire with heavier gauge hot and grounds. I think I used 6 or 4 gauge. (The smaller the # the bigger the gauge) Try pulling the pull start or removing the plug to bump the engine so the engine is not on the compression stroke when starting. (Even though the starter was going this helped me to get it started and get it around) Check all the electrical components to see if they are within spec. Replace the starter.
  6. Good Morning QC, half way thru the week.
  7. Good Morning, Wet and Rainy make for some good riding unless it's still cold out.
  8. Carbon fiber would be cool and in your case you just have to tear the old ones off and reprint if they get damaged.
  9. Looks good but the I agree that the pattern is an wild one LOL. I have the same thing done to my quad and it held up for a few years now with no problems. The design was done by Arctic FX Graphics. It was guaranteed for a year and they do something similar with the print then a heavy mil of clear over that. It worked great for what I was looking for. Hydro-dipping would be cleaner but it looks like the price is about 3 times more than the graphics.
  10. For a Monday it may take a while for my brain to get moving again. Off the top of my head: The fan should have a sensor in the radiator to turn it off and on, I know for sure it does on the newer models located in the radiator and the earlier ones had an oil temp switch. In your case it may be located in the cylinder head assembly but I am not sure if that controls the overheat light and the fan or just the overheat light. Get meter readings and check the connections of the ground on your battery and where it connects to the frame. Then check the ground on the engine and where that connects to the frame. Check out this file from the FTP 0486-076.PDF It shows the temp sensor and how the ignition wiring is laid out. Finally is it an auto or manual?
  11. Looks like you guys has a great time. I miss rippin it up with a sport quad.
  12. Ox I was thinking the same thing, just add some weapons and you have a trike that would fit nicely into the road warrior.
  13. I like the blue plastics. and it looks like it has some mods complete already.
  14. That's cool. We have similar ones here only on a smaller scale.
  15. Good Morning QC, What a great weekend it was to get out and ride.
  16. Hope all is well with the little guy, shoot us an update when you have a chance.
  17. Sounds like a cool option for something no one else will have. If you add shipping to the price when you buy the plastics for a full size quad it can get expensive. I might try this some time instead of decals but for now the decals I had done are holding up great.
  18. Good Morning I can't wait any longer for the weekend but Saturday is still going to be in the 40s here.
  19. How does the price for dipping compare to new plastics?
  20. That's awsome. I bet you have close to 100 pounds of mud there.

    Tuff mud

You almost made it thru. The hole looks a lot nastier from this angle.
