  1. Lol I know that look on the kids face. When I got my boy his Bayou 400 it needed the top end taken off to swap out the cam. I wanted to show him how to pull the head off to see the piston and crank while I was in there. His face when we were done tearing into the bike ! He said dad this thing is never going to run again. A few days later the bike was all back together and ran so well. He sees things a lot differently now. Lol so many questions though. Keep working through the pain brother. It will get better. Keepnus posted with some pics!!!! I love pics!
  2. There shouldn’t really be any crap in there it was just water in the oil. Most of the stuff will get pushed through the filter as the bike is ridden over time and removed by doing oil changes. Whatever crap was in there should flush through the system and get trapped in the filter I would think. If the drain plug gets destroyed while trying to remove it then it’s party over ! We all seen that with the plug on that post a few weeks back by one of our members. So I would think if that’s going to be it and not touching the plug as to not destroy it then go with the pump.
  3. Very well. Along with some lessons learned I guess from the mistakes. Lord knows I’ve made plenty.
  4. This weather refuses to give up. What’s the eta on parts for the smaller bike?
  5. I’ve only seen a few never worked on them. Have you checked the downloads section?
  6. Any boat marina service location should have something like that since it’s really a device for boat engines. Try a local auto parts place. You will find one. It’s not that hard to find.
  7. That’s a great idea. I like to finish one before I start anything else. I’ve been trying so hard to get the Mojave over to my garage to get started on it since I finished the Bayou 220. Maybe next week after the weather wans up a bit. But that bike looks like a serious machine for pushing snow. I hope it’s not more then what you think is wrong like a blown tranny.
  8. That’s good news kiddo. Glad you found out what’s wrong. And yet you still love Polaris! Are you getting swayed at all from them ?
  9. Nice work on the progress. I would not run the engine without a filter. The filter will catch any junk that’s in the engine as your running it clean. So unfortunately it sucks to have to waste a few filters but I would do it at this point based on what you have into the bike already. Use a cheap oil at first for a flush, put a fresh filter in. Run the bike leave the filter in drain the oil. Put fresh oil in run it again and drain once more changing the filter and oil this time and you should be good to go. Maybe put a few hours on the bike and change it one more time. As for the oil plug that’s a bummer but there is an alternative to get the oil out. Take a look at this. It’s a small pump with a tube that gets down in the engine. They have electric ones as well but this one works good. My buddy uses it on his boat engine and the price is right. 10. Bombarder!!!! Work horse. Wow. Nice. They were so ugly but strong as hell.
  11. Nice eye @JacobSlabach def a good catch. That machine is a sweet ride. It will last a long time!
  12. The noise you heard was prob the fuel pump priming up. As far as deals, there are some out there. You just have to learn how to look better. It took me a long time to figure out where and how. And I also constantly tell everyone I know that hey if you hear of a quad for sale or anything woth a motor let me know. So I get a call once or twice a week. It’s better to leave a bike that’s not worth the time or effort or money.
  13. So a starter would be $40 maybe $50. Carb rebuild $50 then some miscellaneous stuff another $80. That’s $170 invested plus your time to an $800 purchase. $970 total. Then to sell it for $1200 where the buyer will knock you down $100. So $130 profit? Is it worth all the effort ? You would have to have get that bike for $500 or $600 to be worth your while. Or pick it up for the $800 and do the repairs and get $1500 back.
  14. Wow nice looking bike. Good luck with it! That is a nice bag set up!
  15. @Ray Roberts hey man. Any progress on the bike ?
  16. I put one in my 2001 bear tracker. Picked it up from amazon. Aftermarket obviously. I haven’t had a problem. There pretty simple mechanisms to a starter relay not rocket science so the aftermarket ones are pretty good.
  17. You will get there. The trick is to buy low (obviously) and sell at a fair profit. That means not buying someone else’s problems. Finding barn bikes, bikes that have been sitting but in tact is key. I’m very selective in what I pick up. And know the value of a resale even before I buy it. Example. I seen a racer on let go. Father was selling sons old bike he went away to collage and that was that. Bike didn’t run. But it was nice. $400 bucks! I knew I was going to clean the carb fresh gas and plug and sell it for $950. I got right in my truck and flew! Before anyone else got there. Went as per plan except I sold it for $900 three days later. Put that money in my stash can and picked up another and another etc. Wound up with enough cash to hit my 2012 rancher without touching a cent of my own money. All upgrade money. The bottom line is I buy bikes that need very little parts and more labor then anything. Cosmetic work can be done at home. Seat covers, new grips etc. All inexpensive but effective when reselling.
  18. Sweet. Hope it all goes well brother !
  19. I had a similar bIke I picked up a few years back. Bike would not start. Pulled the plug it looked ok. Threw a new one in and bang fired right up. Smoked alot also but it’s what I expected from a bike like that. I gave it away to a friend so his little guy could Learn how to ride. Still runs and still does the same sh**. Did the same thing from time to time. Weird but true.
  20. If the cover has a hole and you can’t find a replacement there are always people out there that can close it up with a little heliarc welding job. Prob cost you $25 but worth it.
