  1. I would change the sparkplug if you didn't. Probally a long show but who knows. I know somtimes when you pull it out to check the spark it will but then when it is undercompression in the chamber it won't. (Bad Plug) It happened a few times to friends and is always a easy try if you have one lying around. A cold engine is harder to turn over. The only other option I can think of is that the timing is slightly off. It is hard to say because it starts right up when warm. I am just guessing something with the spark because it looks like you have enough fuel.
  2. With water cooled I have had problems with air in the hoses preventing the coolant from circulating. To check this I make sure the hoses are warm to the touch and that the fan cycles on and off. If not, to "burp" it I elevate the quad on car ramps and run till warm with the radiator cap off and under no pressure. Also you may look into replacing the cap it is cheap insurance to make sure you are running under the correct operating pressure.
  3. If the main jet dosen't have anything in it I would also check for air leaks in your intake and the condition of the air filter.
  4. Looks like you are moving right along. Check the frame for cracks just in case before you get everything back on it. A friend once told me wherever the paint is peeling off the frame the frame may have been stressed there. It is not always true but it is good to give it a look over anyways. Part out to rest and make some cash or rebuild the old engine into a beast.
  5. Wow the first thing I would have done is fix the overheat light and install a temp gauge. I am sorry you have to go through everything again. I run a temp gauge and I can always keep an eye on how the quad is reacting to the terrain.
  6. The other thing I have been doing is only putting enough gas in the tank that I will need for the planned ride. If I know I can get by with half a tank I just fill it that much and I only buy gas the day before the ride. I think the problems with ethanol mostly involve water separation. The other additives should help with the rest. I have used both sea foam and marine stabil but never used both at the same time.
  7. You probally have to adjust the shift lever there should be a lock nut and some threads. This happens to my ATV sometimes. You will also notice it snaps into gear a little better just put it in netural and adjust the shifter to make the green light come on then take for a test drive and make sure it finds all of the gears fine.
  8. I would check to see to make sure the needle in the carb operates and opens correctly. Sounds like some problems in mid throttle. Also put a new plug in do a chop and see what color it is for the first 1/4 throttle. Now that I am thinking about it make sure the fuel flows fine and the in line filter is not blocked if there is one.
  9. That sounds like a good find. You may even be able to part some stuff out and make your money back. Just make sure the $300 isn't a bit too high.
  10. Welcome to QC it is good to have another technical guy on the site that understands sport quads.
  11. There are two places in lakewood with garages for around 189K the only problem is that the lot sizes are around one acre. If you want to make alot of cash get certified to weld gas line you will be working for the next 20+ years.
  12. I would download the service manual here http://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/arctic-cat-atv-forum/10091-extract-print-arctic-cat-atv-schematics.html and then check the stator and other electrical components saving the rectifier for last.
  13. The list gets updated every year but for the most part the basics are still there. Here is what I carry on the ATV: Air compressor Tire plug kits Tie downs Registration/ Insurance Sockets Wipes Torx wrench 2 bungee cords Spare fuses Ratchet straps Hammer Dual screwdriver Vice grip Zip ties Spark plugs Duck tape Razor Flashlight Rag Ponchos Tissues Hose tape Electrical tape First aid kit Spark plug socket with extension And on the SXS: Air compressor Tire plug kits Tie downs Registration/ Insurance Sockets Wipes Torx wrench 2 bungee cords Spare fuses Ratchet straps Hammer Dual screwdriver Vice grip Zip ties Spark plugs Duck tape Razor Flashlight Rag Ponchos Tissues Hose tape Electrical tape First aid kit Jumper cables Jack Tire iron Saw (folding) Work gloves Syphon Large Phillips screwdriver Large Standard screwdriver
  14. First off if the dealer is right and it is seized what is wrong with taking the parts apart, cleaning them up with steel wool and then reassembling and then toping off with some good oil. Sure the tolerances may be off a bit but it will be a good winter project and save you some cash. I would just apply some heat to get the two parts broken free. Secondly I had a similar problem with my teryx and diff lock and the lever that engaged the diff lock was wedged in the locked position. I had to work it loose and then replaced the lock cable. I have no clue if the front diffs on the teryx and the brute are the same.
  15. Check to see if the diaphram is seated correctly. Did you replace it as part of the carb work? Maybe it is worn.
  16. Now that's a cool idea, so I guess you track how much oil goes in by the markings on the fill bottle.
  17. LOL Everytime I watch that vid of you surfing I have to smile, thats just too cool. This pit may have been a little too deep for that though.
  18. Looks like fun! Today is only Monday and I am already counting down to the weekend.
  19. Here is a link but it is expensive GoodGuys Powersports Specialties Motorcycle Gear and Powersports Accessories
  20. Not show stopping in my book, just glad you were not hurt!
  21. I will be up that way this Wendsday and talk to some of the locals. I ride up there at least once a month. The only offical ATV Park up that way is the Lost Trails Ride Lost Trails | Lost Trails ATV Adventures| ATV Park | Off Road Vehicles off of SR 006. There are some other spots to ride and I will fill you in after you move. Also do you have a job yet? Check with Lindie Enterprises for Job Openings. If I understand right you are a mechanic or machine operator.
  22. Here are some ideas. My fifth wheel is removeable from the back of my truck, when removed it is almost flush with the bed and it can hold alot of capacity. Maybe you can use similar anchor points. Some companies have a similar product that is similar to a roll back but they are heavy and costly. (I will try and post links later) ATVs can weight over 1000lbs when fitted with gear. Dry weights are around 800lbs now. If the device can not only lift the ATV but secure it against falling out and theft that would be a plus. Maybe it can even support the weight of the ATV on the tailgate. Good luck with the project.
