  1. replace the fuel first off ... check other fluids, try taking the rubber hose running from the air box to the carb and spraying quick start or fuel in to try and get it running ... new plug is good ... probably carb is in need of a thorough cleaning ... could try seafoam in the gas tank first, double the prescribed dose and run it thru

  3. You could first try unhooking the battery for 10 mins and closing tighter the cluster connector female ends to make sure you have good contact. I think you might have some rubbed wires that are shorting, or a broken one or two ... down by the handlebars is where youre getting the rub and alongside the gas tank ...
  4. i know on Yamahas the float level is about a 1/2" ... hold the carb in level position with the bowl removed, measure from the bottom of carb where bowl attaches to bottom of float, floas should drop to measurement and if it needs to be altered, the metal tang where the float pin is can be altered to the right height ...
  5. check the float height, and probably needle and seat getting stuck ... carb kit would be best bet ...

  9. if it is spinning the starter is still alive, i would take it off and look at the bendix spring, that spring i believe throws the gear towards the flywheel, you can test it on the bench and have a look if it moves ... if it does it might not be able to handle a load, im sure any auto place can put it on a load test for you ...
  10. could be a stretched drive belt (pray it is) or clutch is acting up ... there might be an adjuster to tighten the belt some ... rear of the motor you might see a nut with a slot inside, loosen the nut and you can adjust the slot left and right, just cant remember what way is more or less slack, youll find out easily enough ...

  12. there is usually a sticker where the handlebars meet the frame, and by left foot on bottom part of frame it is stamped .... not sure but i thought Polaris had problems with the "pod" ... headlight and gauges unit ... most times replacement was the answer but dont quote me, maybe a Polaris guy will jump in or make a new thread in the Polaris forum ... here is a 97 manual ...

  15. check the output of the regulator/rectifier ... could also be an issue with the stator as it is the brains of the charging system ... make sure connections are secure too ...
  16. valve lash set right ? timing ?
  17. carb float height is good ? idles at proper rpm ?
  18. that should be your regulator/rectifier ... they do get hot (damn hot) ... but should not smoke
