Need Advice about a 9 year old and his ATV *HELP*

here is what i found online for Indiana ... Indiana State ATV Information i would suggest that you get him in a training course first ... my son was 8 or 9 when i gave him my 350 Honda, i did put the fear of God into him first though, Rules : helmet ALWAYS, take your time-never rush anywhere, absolutely no F-n around on it or you lose it, always check the oil, wash it when you;re done. he did have a little experience on a dirt bike previously, so safety wasnt a big factor as i set the same ground rules ... your boy will love the atv im sure, praise him on it and give him hell when warranted, ride with him too. maybe you can get one to go with him ... it is fun !! im sure he will get some scrapes and or bruises along the way, but the learning curve for him is respect of the bike ,,, JMO -

i took the bowl off and removed the jets and float ... let them soak also ... as much as you can remove the better i think ... it worked well for me -

i had to adjust the star wheel so the shoes were almost touching the drum before i got them right. the air is probably out already, but like you said, not enough travel from the wheel cylinders ...

coil maybe breaking down when hot, after it cools it will start again ??

i had the same problem on a 91 big bear and changed it out and never had to look back. from what i heard, yamaha had stators that didnt hold up that well. but the aftermarket ones are the way to go. ebay has alot of good deals on them ...

the stator makes the spark, it is inside the cover by your left foot sitting on the bike, it is an easy fix, the spark being white is weak, if changed it will be blue. stator and pick up coil are sold together, both inside the cover, you might be able to buy just the pick up coil and try that, sometimes that is all that goes on them ...

run the seafoam thru it for sure ... it will eat all or most of the dirt and build up ...

how good is the spark? when turning over the spark should be rapid and brilliant blue ... if not and it hiccups or not completely blue, could be stator and/or pick up coil ...

valves may not be in sequence, need to adjust ...

probably a short ... check wires at handlebars for wear and thru frame rail at gas tank/seat area. possibly a bad ground connection on frame ...
