  1. i traded off 1 of my snowmobiles today an got this very clean 1 owner 1984 HONDA XR 250R
  2. at least you are smart enough to ware your helmet and saftey gear ...lol.. alot of guys dont ..and that little spill could of really hurt some one that didnt wear there gear ... KOOL.VID... AN BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME ...LOL..
  3. i own several of the aw's that they are wanting to ban .. and i have family members and friends that own them also.. i have a class-3 government licens and buy and sell them also... it took me a long time and a bunch of money to get it ... the restrictions i have to follow to sell to people are very long and not leaniant ... the laws get tougher and more strict every year ...i now have to carry insurance to cover my as* if i sell to some one that is not actually able to purchase it ..and they do something like happend in newtown.. i like my weapons and am an avid gun collector and shooter ... i have guns from the 1800's to current new ones made with in the last 6 months ... stiffer laws on aw's are probably going to happen but should not on personal protection fire arms ....
  4. can-am recommends to switch at low speeds ..and with out the rear tires spinning in mud or loss of rear traction.. but i have seen it done at different speeds and while spinning the rears in mud ... but have heard noises that didnt sound good on there machines ... so i would say shift at your own risk at high speeds and durring rear traction loss ...
  5. ok... i did alot of searching on your machine and there was a problem with alot of the 02 prairies and alot of them had the wire harness replaced at dealerships an when the dealer ordered the new harness they got them and had the same color plugs on them ... i found this out through my local kawasaki dealer and service department ... you should still be able to do the prossess at swaping the plugs an doing the reset as u find on youtube ... if not you will have to find a dealer that can do it and show u how to for further resets ...
  6. look on youtube for other kawasaki V-TWINN powered machines that have the belt drive system .. the V-force 700 ,,,prairie 360,,prairie 400,,,bruteforce 650 an 750 .. and see if that will help.. i know that some of the wire plugs are not all grey an black .. some are both black... its a crazy setup .. but i have done it and went through the same thing .. i own 3 of the kawasaki's with the belt drive system ..
  7. if you cant find it on youtube and figure it out that way the clymer manual explains it step by step if you can find 1 of them ... several atv sites have them listed as down loads ... u might even find it on here ... or ask ..Oxidized_black ...he has about 100 manuals on a storage site for down loading ...
  8. if you get on youtube and search it they have several videos on how to reset the belt system an they work... you also might need to make shure the belt sensor is clean and in the rite position .. they can be knocked out of alignment and keep it from reseting ...it could also be bad and cause it ...
  9. yup .. always a good item to have in the garage when working on quads ..... gotta have that mini torch...
  10. i use a boat pump on alot of atv gas tanks ... you can also take off the fuel line going to the carbs .. but dont let the electric fuel pump get hot and fry ... always keep at least 1/4 tank of fuel in it ... if you remove the fuel line from the carbs keep pouring gas in the tank till it looks like clean fresh fuel comming out the line ...
  11. check and make shure you dont have any sand or rocks in the front brakes ... then if thats not it .. i would put it on jackstands and take the front tires off ... start it ..put it in gear and use a piece of rubber hose and poke it around ware u think the noise is comming from with the other end up at your ear so u can hear the sounds comming thrugh the hose ...... an old piece of garden hose ..or a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 inch fuel line will work great .. this will make it alot easyer to pin point the area the noise is comming from ..and keep your hands / fingers away from moving parts...
  12. :yes:the V-twin in our prairies has more torque and a few more hp.. and it is alot more stable at high speeds in the woods and twisty trails .. it will also climb alot steeper hills with out wanting to roll over backwards .. it also has alot better engine breaking ..and will slide the rear around like a sport quad ..and do donuts easyer ... i have ridden both and still like the old strate axle prairie over any of the independant rear utility atv's .. the only draw back is less ground clearance ... but bigger and more aggressive tires even that out alot ... and if you add aftermarket exhaust and jet kit and do a clutch kit or clutch mods it will even hang with the bigbore 800cc machines in the woods and trails ..cause they are no ware near as stable at high speeds as our old prairies ...
  13. in the front hubs there is a gear/keeper that makes the wheel turn when its in 4x4 .. i had to replace them on a couple of the polaris Xplorers in my shop.. they are usually not 2 expensive to fix .. and used hubs and gears/keepers are fairly cheap for thoes on ebay ..
  14. yes u will have to remove the motor from the frame to split the case to get the crank and rod out ... but another thing that will sound like a lower end motor knock is a worn clutch .. i have seen that on many quads with a belt drive .. they sound like the lower end is knocking when its actually not .. it was a clutch with worn parts ..causing the noise ... that has not always been it ... some times it is actually the rod or bad crank ...
  15. i have a couple of the kawasaki V-Twins and they have some oil seapage from the valve covers and the valve adjustment covers ... the oil runs down the heads and lays ware the head gasket is and looks like its leaking at the head gaskets ... i just cleaned 1 of mine with a power washer and engine de-greaser and then started it up afterwards and didnt see any leaks ... let it run for about an hour (riding around the yard and idleing ) and then found the leak at 1 of the valve adjustment covers .. replaced the O-ring there and no more leak... i have owned several of the V-twin kows and that is ware they usually always leak.. try what i did and see if that i ware its coming from .. most likely will be ..
