if you don't have the title, go to the dmv with the serial numbers and get a new one, provided it isn't on the 'hot sheet' .... they'll charge you a few bucks to do it, but then you'll have peace of mind if you need to insure it or sell it ...

Honda 400ex & z400 - Need Help
oxidized_black replied to Missouri_2004_400ex's topic in Honda ATV Forum
saw this online ... HOT CAMS PERFORMANCE CAM SHAFTS FAQs: What sets Hot Cams Product, Inc. apart from other camshafts? Convenience and engineering! Hot Cams Products, Inc. is the first camshaft company to produce its own cores from billet for the dirt bike and ATV market. What does this imply? This means no more core charges or having to send in camshaft for welding. A cam from billet is also much more durable and will last for longer years. Do customers have to modify other parts to run a high-performance Hot Cam? No. Hot Cams Products, Inc. offers high-performance camshafts that deliver maximum power and performance with a minimum of installation hassles. In some stage two and three cases there could be valve spring requirements, but this will always be noted. Is a high-performance Hot Cam a good value when modifying an ATV’s engine? Yes! Hot Cams Products, Inc. has been named a top product of year for its dollar per horsepower comparison. Hot Cams Products, Inc. provides drop-in performance and is the best engine modification for the money. Many times, external parts that cost far more can give far less performance gain than a high-performance Hot Cam. Does Hot Cams only make camshafts for race models? No. Hot Cams Products, Inc. makes cams for many play bikes and for many utility ATVs with our Mudbuster line. With a Mudbuster cam, utility 4x4 ATVs will enhance the low-end engine performance, with no top-end performance loss. Honda Rubicon, Rincon, Prairie 650 & 700, Grizzly 660, and Polaris Sportsman 700 are just some of the Mudbuster cams that are worth checking out. Does Hot Cams Products, Inc. Camshafts really help my motors performance? Yes, extensive development and testing is the key. Hot Cams Products, Inc. test many variations of cams for each model to ensure that the best performance and durability cam is produced. Are there cams for sale by companies that weld cams that make better power? Yes. Many “radical” cams will excessively wear out valve train components. Hot Cams Products, Inc. concentrates on cams that require little to no hassle while still making more power. The company would rather ride longer and give up a small amount of power. Does the Hot Cams Products, Inc. still utilize the stock decompression mechanism? Yes. Hot Cams Products, Inc. all come with the OEM de-comp mounts in the cam, or with the de-comp mounts and parts if the OEM is not removable. Hot Cams is the leader in innovation, design and development of outstanding aftermarket ATV camshafts. Hot Cams ATV Camshafts MUDBUSTER CAMS Hot Cams Products, Inc. makes cams for many play bikes and for many utility ATVs with our Mudbuster line. With a Mudbuster cam, utility 4x4 ATVs will enhance the low-end engine performance, with no top-end performance loss. Honda Rubicon, Rincon, Prairie 650 & 700, Grizzly 660, and Polaris Sportsman 700 are just some of the Mudbuster cams. CAMSHAFTS STAGE 1 This camshaft boosts horsepower substantially in the mid-range and perks up throttle response. Package includes bearings, thus, utilizes the O.E.M. sprocket and auto-decompression mechanism and does not need spring change or head adjustment. Required valve modification and jetting is minimal and similar with all the other Hot Cams products, this camshaft is built out of all new billet materials. In short terms, customer nee not have to replace a core. Description: Single-cam motor. Excellent midrange and top-end power increase. Uses stock valve springs and rockers. *Does not use auto-decompression mechanism. CAMSHAFTS STAGE 2 This high-performance camshaft increases horsepower considerably from mid-range to top-end and enhances over-rev. It comes complete with bearings, utilizes the O.E.M. sprocket, and requires no spring change or head modification. Required valve adjustment and jetting is minimal as well. This camshaft is made of all new billet materials. The customer does not have to exchange a thing. Description: Single-cam motor. More top-end power than Stage 1 with midrange gain. Uses stock valve springs and rockers. *Does not use auto-decompression mechanism. CAMSHAFTS STAGE 3 This high-performance camshaft increases top-end horsepower and over-rev substantially over the Stage 2 and is ideal for Supermoto, desert, big-bore and stroker applications. It is available in a complete package with bearings. It utilizes the O.E.M. sprocket and does not demand any spring change or head modification. Created out of all new billet materials, it does not require valve adjustment and jetting is at minimum. Similar with other camshafts, there’s no need to alter anything. -

the title is your ownership slip if it is registered. the bill of sale is just the paper you needed to register the bike. if you don't have either, i think you can go to a dmv and swear it is yours, and they'll run the serial numbers to validate a certificate or ownership. just like a car ot truck ...
