  1. I agree with DD. also check the wires at the switch for the 3.5 volts- there should be at least one hot there when OFF. that means the switch is likely screwed up. by the way, 3.5 volts is not enough to keep a 12 volt battery charged! Sounds like someone chased the problem around and then gave up on it. Could be a charging coil too. It's time to buy a manual with a wiring diagram in it. ebay city.... Keep at it, you'll find it. PS: if you short across the starter terminals it should turn the starter over, but not start without the ignition switch set to run.
  2. 98cm3 would be a 100cc, but like you were told 'good luck!' A carb off just about any old 90 or 100cc can prob be made to work. check ebay for a carb off like a honda atc90- they are usually plentiful and cheap. Good Luck with that one- it's gonna be a project!
  3. as I recall it's .003 and .002 - it's better to let them 'tick' a little than to run them tight and burn them. The hardest part on the recon is taking all the plastic off to get to the engine. Oh, and don't lose any of those little black fasteners- they're spendy at the dealer! have fun! A book is always a good investment.
  4. time to adjust the clutch, no big problem unless you neglect it. If those plates smoke out you'll be changing the clutch. hopefully it justs needs to be adjusted. owners manual [on bottom of seat usually] will tell you the specifics of that model.
  5. CDI box. they are usually reliable....
  6. start with the battery connections/condition. you are likely to find the problem there.
  7. sounds lean to me. you should have only 2 screws on the carb: one for idle and the other for mixture. pull your spark plug and see what color it is, let us know. white is too lean, black is too rich. that will tell you where to start. If it is lean it WILL run hot.
  8. what does your dash tell you when you shift it electrically? do you get the gear number or just " - -" if so, it is prob the shift angle sensor. it screws into the back of the case just above the swingarm. It is a common problem on Hondoos.... the computer doesnt know what gear it is in so it defaults to neutral. Not saying this could be the only problem, but it is a common failure part on the ES quads. good luck. prob should buy a book.
  9. weird. has to be a lean problem, since that quad has the TORS system on it- it should not rev like that- it is spozed to shut itself off. Were you going slow and the engine got pretty hot? you may be looking at a set of rings and maybe a piston as well. Let us know OK? clean the carb out [easy] and check it for leaks, esp round the base of the cylinder. Let us know if you need help.
  10. I took it to mean it would not move- perhaps it is the opposite?
  11. I covered most of it up with a paper towel but there's still some tidbits hanging out. You might like. not gross. ride on!
  12. I have no idea what that is about!!!!! It is not from me!!!! There may be a problem with the system somewhere, but it is not me.
  13. THANK YOU ALL it is a far larger victory than most people are capable of handling, though they profess lifelong faith and stuff like that.......THIS IS A COMMITMENT. IF THE CHRISTIANS DID THIS, THERE WOULD BE NO WHINING ABOUT REMOVING THE 10 COMMANDMENTS FROM A COURTHOUSE. Either you're in our you're out make a commitment. No one said it was gonna be easy. That's the nature of our country and our people. That's why we're the BEST: we take on the tough jobs and commit to success.
  14. MWKE that is the priceless part. There is no such thing as too many pictures! people always discover they don't have enuf, And when your kids start doing it to you [as they are to me] STAND TALL and be proud! ALWAYS do your best, even in the easy chair. No substitute for excellence! I'm an Air Force Brat and vet, what do you expect? Nothing but the best is acceptable! Of all gifts, LOVE is most important, and it can be a single cookie. Think on that. :patriotc:
  15. 'Twas 10 years ago today I quit smoking, cold turkey. also had a bad heart attack that day- I guess it was a wake up call. I consider this my 'second birthday' hahaha changed my life! Now I guess I'm in for another change...more later.
  16. wow that's lucky it was just the idle! seems most of the time ppl have them set too low.... glad you got it fixed!
  17. let me ask someone on Monday....I Hope it's a simple fix. if it's not a shifter code then it's likely a bearing. We'll see.
  18. correct fluids? it wasn't low? I'll have to think about this one...usually angle sensor fixes it. You might unhook the battery overnight. Does this ride spend time in deep water? it sounds like it is still not reading your angle sensor correctly. hmmm.
  19. If she comes and gets it, she can HAVE it! as a birthday present! ONLY GOOD FOR 30 days though:this is not a handout but a BIRTHDAY GIFT. If you don't want it after 30 days then you don't want it! Then again, if you plan to come out and eat ribs next summer we may have to reconsider...... how's that? I'll miss it, but that's cool! ....and it has newer plastic on it now too....what do you think? fair enough?
  20. The most common problem is a shift angle sensor. It tells the tranny what gear you want. With the -- I would suspect that to be it as they are usually trouble free. It a sensor that screws into the back of the trans and faces the rear tire. If you don't normally get -- then you might make sure it is plugged in....if it is, I'll bet that is the problem.
  21. Seagate 500GB hard drive Motorola bluetooth earpiece Sony H10 8.1MP digital camera HeatSurge heater for my room ..upgraded my DSL connection to 7Mbps.
  22. COOL! there's plenty of 2 strokes around here, everyone is afraid of working on them!!!! I grew up on them. Buy a used one, order a piston/ring set, pull the barrel, take it to the machinist, and it's ready to party. Overhaul the carb while the barrel is gone..... Other than that just basic maintenance, one end to the other: easy and fun! I have too many of them right now! but need more, cuz come spring and tax returns, people will want these rides yeehaw!
