I have a friend who rides a CRF 250R, she loves it too. It's pretty quick too, she can almost keep up with me on my LTR.

This is my Honda TRX 500R aka. the mutt. There are pieces from all kinds of different machines on this thing. The frame is a hame made '86 250R replicala. The rear suspension and brakes are off an '85 ATC 250R. The front end is from a 2000 400ex with Burgard +2 a-arms that have been modified to fit the shocks from a 2008 KFX 450. The steering stem is homemade using the bar clamps off a 1975 Honda XL 350. At the heart of the beast is a 1986 CR 500 motor with a 1987 long-rod crank using a 5mm cylinder spacer custom made by Cometic gasket.

Here is my Suzuki, it is a 2007 LTR 450.

2005 raptor 350 engine dies after warmed up

Anytime man, we are here to help. -
I would say that is not normal, you should be able to shift at any time. Take the plug out and roll the motor around by hand, you need to make sure that everything rolls smoothly and you don't want to hear any clicking noises like two objects catching edges as they pass each other. If every thing rolls together ok it might just be a worn shift fork or fork shaft, that could cause the bike to not shift unless things are moving.

I'm sure you don't complain as much as my wife does, I don't think anyone does. So you should be ok. -

2005 raptor 350 engine dies after warmed up

Nice, sometimes the solution is too simple and gets overlooked. If you have any similar trouble in the future, check the coil wire/plug boot too, I had that problem on my 500R and it would only act up when it was warm, I put a new plug boot on and changed the fouled plug, haven't had any problems since. I live in Bonney Lake, it is somewhat near Tacoma, I mostly ride some trails that are near my home, it is nice because I can just ride out of the garage and go, no loading up. My boss just bought a condo over in Roslyn, I guess there is some good riding out there, I will probably go over there with him one of these weekends and check it out. -
The tranny can be very tempermental if anything is even slightly off. Every little washer and spacer is a different size or width, and they MUST be in the right spot. I don't know how far you disassembled, but you will need to go back over everything you had apart and double and tripple check everythinguntil you find the problem. The first an easiest thing to check is the ratchet mechanism on at the end to the shift shaft. Check that stuff first as it will not require splitting the cases just remove the clutch side case cover, you will probably have to take the clutch out too, something may have just slipped out of position when you were putting it back together. If that is all ok, then you will have to get back inside the crankcase. Make sure the shift forks are in the right spots. Check to see if all the gears are lined up properly, turn them around and make sure they don't catch or stop, they should turn all the way around without interference. I lost track of the washers in my CR 500 motor and had to buy all new ones so I could reference the part #'s and find out where they go using a Honda part fische diagram. That was a real pain. Good luck.

DOUBLE POST, DOUBLE POST, the super mod posted the same thing twice, and I cought him hahaha. Ahem, anyway, a picture would help someone tell you what you have, or you can call the dealer and give them the VIN #. Or enter the model that Bot suggested into your search engine and try to find an image to compare.

2005 raptor 350 engine dies after warmed up

If you had the carb apart, you may have fixed one problem(gummed up carb) and caused another(fuel screw) there is a good chance that you screwed the fuel screw all the way back in when putting the carb back together, a common mistake. That could cause the symptoms you have described. I just noticed you are in Washington, where abouts exactly? -
1992 Suzuki King Quad starting question..?
DirtDemon replied to quad_beast's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
Did you leave gas in it for a long period of time? You may just need to clean your carb. Or you may have a loose connection in your ignition system, check the key switch, the kill switch, and all wire connections from the battery to the primary and secondary ignition systems for a loose connection or ground. Also check the coil wire/plug boot. -
That's right, every one eats dirt but me.

There is a fuel screw on four strokes it is located in front of the float bowl on the bottom, it is difficult to get to but it should be there, it is on the Warrior wich is basically the same quad. The fuel screw is similar to the air screw on a two stroke, but it varies the amount of fuel that flows through the idle circuit as opposed to the air screw on a two stroke which varries the amount of air that flows through the idle circuit. If your quad has been sitting for a while you may need to clean out the carb. -
I get your point completely, that is exactly the reason I mentioned the Raptor, that thing has power every where, you can ride it slow or you can ride it fast. I guess for me the 450 is best because it is the raciest motor you can find in a new quad, and since you can't buy a new two stroke any more, a 450 is the next best thing. I do agree that it takes a bit more skill to ride one though, especially in tight trails. But the 400's just don't do it for me, I needs more POWER.

Motorola Krave, cool phone, with a major design fault in the touch screen lock. It will be getting exchanged for a different model soon. How do you add the images to your post like that? When I try to add pics as an attatchment it never works right.

Bot, I know that was a joke, I was just playing along. MWKE, is that a freind of yours, a really good freind?
-
Don't worry about hurt feelings, we know you were just playing. I was just giving you a hard time, but all in good fun.

Get a digital multimeter if you don't have one and start testing the circuit, I think you have the right idea, just start checking any connection in the circuit that you can get to. Check for voltage where there shouldn't be any. Switches and relays, the actuator itself. Relays are cheap, I would replace that and go from there. As a last resort, you can always just put an on/off switch in the curcuit, it is not the best solution, but it will keep the battery from dying and would be easier than pulling the fuse.

I agree that the 400's are easy to learn on and are fast enough that you won't get bored too fast. I disagree however that 450's don't make as good of a quad for trails. The ones made to be more MX ready aren't the best, ie. the Suzuki LTR 450, the new Yamaha YFZ 450R, or the KTM SX models. The rest however, are great for trail use IMO. I even like my LTR better on trails than any 400, the 400's just don't compare powerwise without modification. Also, don't forget about the Yamaha raptor 700, probably the most versatile sport machine on the market, tons of power and still easy to ride slow. If you like a nice comfortable ride, the Polaris Outlaw 525 IRS is the nicest riding sport quad I have ridden, a bit heavy, but they still haul as*. Go visit the dealerships in your area sit on a few, see what feels most comfortable. You can find good deals on new 07's and 08's because they want to make room for the 09's.

Whatever guy, I could pull 10 of those and it wouldn't even break a sweat. All the axles are staying on, this truck is probably going to get put to work as well as pull my things around. I have been toying with different ideas for something behind the cab, there is plenty of room there, it has a 265" wheelbase. We may put a little coffin sleeper in there, but then shippers may try and talk you into longer trips and expect you to sleep in the truck. On the other hand, if I can fit a small sleeper and a quad or two in that spot, I can get some dune trips paid for. First thing is the cab and hood, that will take a little while, but I will try and hurry it up for you MWKE.
