The best thing to do is to actually watch what is happening, you can pull the clutch cover like you said, or remove the starter and watch the starter gear as you activate it. What you will probably see in either case is that the gear is spinning, but not moving forward. You may be able to remedy that problem by taking the starter completely apart. Then clean and lubricate where necessary.

The best thing for fenders is new ones. I don't think fiberglass will work very well on plastic fenders. You can drill holes on either side of the cracks and use zip-ties to hold it together for a cheap fix.

The Kawasaki, Polaris and KTM 450's all have reverse. Between the 400EX and the LTZ 400, I personally like the LTZ, it is more performance oriented and it is liquid cooled. Both are great machines however. BTW, the chick in your avatar is freakin' HOT.

I think this thread belongs in the project room.

If you can't figure it out by looking at it, you should get a manual. If you want, you can take some detailed pics of the rear end, specifically the part where the swingarm bolts to the frame. Post them here and I/we can try to give you some advice.

I am a two stroke lover myself, but there is no need to be like that here, if you want to bash 4-strokes, go to E2S.

So, the good news is my rear brakes work again, and I got my radiator fixed. The crappy news is I found two new cracks in the frame. I removed the airbox to make room to get the welder all the way around, and wire wheeled the areas that need to be welded. I am hopefuly going to get off work early enough to get my bottle filled tomorrow so I can go back to the solid wire, the cracks are in the tail end/sub-frame area and the metal is thinner back there, so I don't want to use the flux-core wire in that area.

Put in the correct amount of oil then find a long narrow object to dip into the filler hole, mark the level of the oil on said object, that will give you a reference point you can use later to make sure you haven't lost any oil. A wooden ka-bob stick works really well.

The LTZ is a great machine, there is a reason two other companies sold a clone of it in their own colors. I am sure you will be happy with it.

It is a screw on the side of the carb, should have a spring on it, you probably can't see the spring unless you completely unscrew the screw, but you can feel it when you turn the screw. It will be low on the carb, but not in the side of the float bowl. Turn the screw in to richen, out to lean it out. Adjust the screw so that it idles smooth and the throttle response is good, no stuttering. However, you also probably need to either make sure the hole in the air box is sealed or, go bigger on your main jet. Follow MWKE's advise and get a coulple of plugs and do some plug chops. Make an adjustment, install new plug start the bike, warm it up and ride, get the bike wide open in as high a gear as possible then pull in the clutch and hit the kill switch. Pull the bike over, take that plug out, put your old one back in, and ride back. Take the plug you removed and chop the side of the threads off so you can see the lower part of the insulator. You want to see a medium to dark brown color. Light gray means you are running too lean. You either need more fuel or less air. After you get the main jet set, then if needed tune the needle and pilot if you think you need to. Also, you may want to search for some jetting tips on your browsers search engine, google works best IMO. Reading a good article on jetting will help you understand what you are trying to accomplish.

Congrats, that is a good looking kid, nice work!!!! My son was born a bit early too, 15 weeks early, he weighed 1lb. 10oz., he was quite small, but tough as nails.

The idle problem may be remedied by adjusting the air screw. Did you notice the dry plug before or after you plugged the hole it the air box? What color is the plug?

There are tests you can do on your ignition components using a multimeter, either buy a manual or contact your local dealer for specs. Check your coil wire and plug cap for damage and a snug fit. You might also want to check your flywheel key, you may just be getting spark at the wrong time.

Hope that works out for you, keep us posted.

Good point.

Agreed, you actually have three separate threads for the same issue. They have all been merged into the first thread you started. I understand that your situation has progressed, but it is still the same issue. Also, you also have said essentially the same thing in three separate posts. I deleted two of those. Please try not to repeat yourself. It is easier for every one if you keep things clean and consolidated.

I wouldn't think that it be so inconsistent that you would notice the difference.
-
I agree, re-check for loose connections, and check the plug wire. You should also check the output from the stator.
-
He said that there was a hole added to the airbox lid, that would be a good reason to jet a little richer.

The '07 and up Yamaha's have the best shocks IMO, I had bid on a set of those, but I got out bid, I picked up the Kawi ones because I got a good deal on them and they were virtually unused. I would look at every bike and find out which one has the most similar front suspension geometry as your LT.
-
Depending on how they fit on your quad, they could have a softer ride than on the 450. It all depends on how much leverage the wheel has on the shock. Moving the shock mount on the a-arm will soften or stiffen the ride. I just set mine up as it was on the KFX, my bike is a little lighter, not much, but the shocks are really set with a 150-170lb. rider in mind, I am about 215, so if they are stiffer that is good.

2000 AC 90 idles but dies with throttle
DirtDemon replied to whitdog54's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
You also could have gotten a little water behind the stator cover. If you have the same problem again in the future, check the secondary ignition system. Ignition components work fine one minute and can go completely dead the next. -
Thanks Bot. I just got the rest of it finnished up last night. I have to swing by my buddies weld shop next week and use his TIG machine to fix my radiator, I found a crack in the weld around one of the bottom post mounts. I think I will fix my other bumper too, the one I am using now is pretty crooked.
-
Agreed, go to the dealer and just ask them, what you need just to be sure. They will have every thing you need there too. I always use synthetic oils in all my machines.

170 is pretty high, what kind of mods do you have? If it is really 170, then you should probably atleast run a mix of race and pump gas.
