  1. I ride mostly in a large trail network right by my home in Bonney Lake. I like it because I don't even have to load up, I just ride there. There is a place in Buckley, where the property owner built a track of sorts on a 10 acre plot, he just requires people to sign a release waiver, after that you can ride there anytime. There are also some places in Wilkeson and Evan's Creek.
  2. Yeah, I just had it out again today, and the wheel spin is still a bit excessive, I think the 20's will help me get some more traction. Although the few times I did get it to bite, it almost shot out from under me. I was just talking to a guy who has the same CR500/TRX250R hybrid I do, and he is running 15/36 gearing and 22" tires in the sand. I did the math and at 8500rpm in 5th gear he would be doing 116mph! I will try and get some vids up tomorrow.
  3. I just got the old 500R back up and running again. I remember now why I love two strokes so much. I have gotten used to my LTR so the big pinger was a little scary at first. I tried some new gearing too. I was running 12/39 with 20" tires before, now I am running 14/38 with 18" tires. I never knew it was so badly undergeared. I plan to switch back to 20" tires soon, then she will be good for about 90mph.
  4. I just realized how old this thread is, what did you end up deciding on Jerry?
  5. +2 a-arms and a wider rear axle. you might also look at some aftermarket shocks, the stock ones will get over worked with the wider a-arms.
  6. Both are decent trail machines, but I would favor the Honda of those two. Neither of those would be much of a drag racer. If you want to drag race, and don't have alot of money to spend, buy a two stroke. They are easier and cheaper to modify. An '87 or newer 250 Quadracer would be a good, inexpensive option, and they are good trail riders and would smoke either of the EX or the Raptor in a drag.
  7. Yeah, get a repair manual, they are a must for anyone who works on their own machines. You get important info like torque specs and wear tolerances, as well as a trouble shooting guide. Check ebay for a clymer repair manual for your specific machine. If the motor starts, then it is hooked up the right way, on a dc motor, reversing polarity just changes the direction the motor spins. Honda may have adapted that starter motor from another vehicle where the motor needs to spin the other way. Or maybe they are just crack smokers, either way, if the motor starts, it is right.
  8. The kick starter catch is two pieces separated by a light spring that is supposed to collapse when you kick the lever. Either the spring is sticking, or maybe the teeth on the catch are rounded or damaged in some other way. Take the side cover off and isnpect the kick starter, the problem should be visible. As for the throttle, if the throttle moves and the slide does not, either the cable sheath is not anchored properly, there is too much slack in the cable, or the cable is broken. If the throttle is stuck, do what MWKE said.
  9. Check your flywheel key, you will need a flywheel puller if you don't have one, your local dealer does and they are cheap. Also check your ignition components, that snap you heard could have been an exploding electrical component, if so, you should be able to smell the problem part.
  10. If the head gasket leaks between the combustion chamber into the timing chain slot you could get gas in the oil.
  11. You may put too much tension on the cable, leaving the clutch partially disengaged at all times. Try putting just a tiny bit of slack back in the cable.
  12. Without a doubt the TRX 250R, completely dominant 22 years ago when it was introduced, and continued to dominate until the E.P.A and the new gen 4-strokes took over. Even the new 450R frame geometry is still not much different from the old R. Stellar handling, endless list of aftermarket parts and good old 2-stroke power.
  13. Some one should show him the as* end of a Can-am Outlander 800.
  14. The biggest difference is that it won't bend as easily in a rollover. I did the same thing on my LTR, I bought a TAG metals +1 chromoly stem for $180 off ebay. I also fixed my bent stock one by cutting out the bent section and welding in a straight piece.
  15. sounds like the crankcase is not ventilating properly, or you have compression leaking into the crankcase.
  16. Likely worn valve guides or rings allowing compressed air/fuel to leak into oil system.
  17. Solenoid is likely, could also be that your repair to the cable does not allow for sufficient current flow. Or maybe the cables are just fried, bad cables will actually act like a resistor. Google voltage drop test, there are alot of simple tests that can be done with a volt meter to diagnose your problem.
  18. My condolences to you and your family Billy.
  19. I have always heard that a garbage bag full of oxygen and acetylene will make quite a bang. So I decided to give ot a try. The first one blew nearby mailboxes open. This video was of a later one in the middle of the park.
  20. I use my mini-van, the LTR fits right in, the 500R needs the bars folded down to fit. It works for now until I finish building the trailer.
  21. Put bigger tires and a bigger rear sprocket on it.
  22. Stock, I like the KTM's, inspite of the 4-stroke engine. Modified, I've always wanted to build one of these. It's a YFZ 450 frame with a Banshee motor.
  23. Maybe if I ever blow the motor I will put a 'Zilla motor in it.
  24. I know you changed the plug, but did you check for spark? That is where you want to start because it is the easiest to check. But most likely it is that you are not getting fuel. Drain the tank first, then work your way from the tank to the carb, checking for clogged fuel passages. Then you will want to disassemble the carb and clean it out, make sure the float moves freely and that the jets and vent tubes are not clogged.
