  1. Right on, good trade IMO.
  2. I noticed that quite some time ago, I giggled a little and wondered if there was something wrong inside your head.:willy_nillyc:
  3. Thanks MWKE. When you say shims, do you mean for the valves? I would just buy a kit with different sizes for your machine, it will be good to have some different sizes for when your valve clearance gets out of spec. Your local dealer will be able to help you with that, and I would also recommend buying a manual for your quad. If you lost the valve shims, then that is most likely your problem, I wouldn't start that thing again until you get those replaced. Also, if you modified the intake, the carb will probably need to be re-jetted a bit richer to compensate for the extra air flow.
  4. The best thing is to refer to a repair manual, it will have specific values for your unit. If I don't have a manual I just test for continuity betwen the 3 stator wires. They should all have continuity and close to the same resistance and none should be shorted to ground.
  5. Give the wheels a good shake, you want to check for worn wheel bearings and ball joints. Also, give the boots on your CV joints a good look, make sure there are no rips or tears, if you lose the grease in there the joints will go bad in no time.
  6. MSD is the best, if you look at almost any race car you see, it will most likely have an MSD ignition system. They make systems for some atv's but it is likely that your Polaris is not one of them. It is worth finding out though. Either way the CDI should be pretty easy to install. Sorry, actually it is servicehonda.com, they sell parts for all types of machines though not just honda. Service Honda Home of the CR500AF 500AF 500AFX Junior-X - Honda Motorcycle Parts
  7. Is Spooge your real name? lol
  8. No progress yet, been pretty busy workin on the house. Just hide it in the back yard behind a bush or something, she will never know its there.
  9. I used that Krylon fusion for plastic, and I would not recommend it. It looked ok, but it started rubbing and flaking off after the first ride.
  10. With the cam out there is no compression stroke or exhaust stroke, it is the position of the cam that determines which stroke you are on.
  11. That is really wierd, good luck to you, I hope you get it figured out in time. Perhaps you might try replacing the starter solenoid. The short could be inside there.
  12. I can find manuals for the 700 KQ but not the 750. Good luck to you.
  13. If you want to go with an aftermarket unit, I would recommend MSD if they have on for that quad. Otherwise I would go with the OEM unit, Service motorsports has excellent prices on OEM parts.
  14. A little bit of anti-sieze will work well, a little bit, you don't wan't to clog the choke circuit. What does your air cleaner look like?
  15. I second that flame idea.
  16. Those are very cool, looks good.
  17. It sounds to me that you need to check your jetting. Sounds like you may be running a bit rich. I would start with the needle, maybe raise the clip one spot see if it gets better or worse. Your timing may also be off. I would check that first. Then move to the carb. It would also help to know exactly what you are working on. Year, make, model and engine size please. If stihlmann ads the atv info could a mod move this into the appropriate forum please.
  18. I understand completely, I do that all the time. I wrack my brain trying to figure out some simple elementary thing when the answer is right in front of my eyes.
  19. You bet, please come back if you have any more problems.
  20. How about #16, I think that is the bearing seal. Also, Service Honda has some of the best prices on OEM parts.
  21. The only thing that makes sense to me is a dead short. I would check ALL your wiring very carefully.
  22. Bot, do you feel silly about asking that question?:hitself: Don't be too hard on yourself though, we all have brainfarts. If the cam is out of the motor it won't matter, TDC is TDC, the position of the cam is what determines if you are on the compression or exhaust stroke. You are correct about the ignition, it runs off the crank and sparks each time the crank turns. This is called a wasted spark ignition. The only way the ignition system can tell the differece between different strokes is to run it off the cam instead of the crank. Just make sure all your marks line up when you put it back together.
  23. I do remember that one, I had an '86 Quadsport 230s. I loved that old thing.
  24. I really don't think you will have much luck finding those, but I hope you do.
  25. No problem man. Sounds like you are ok, do the plug chop to be sure, I always like to run just a hair on the rich side just to be safe.
